I'm pretty sure there were Indiana Jones action figures back in the day..
I remember Indy, that bald airplane mechanic dude, the Thuggee from Temple of Doom, Mola Ram, etc.

2012-02-26 10:35:25 AM
Nice but I was a little let down that the Bloodsport figurine wasn't doing the splits between two chairs.

2012-02-26 10:52:15 AM
the Jaws one would have been cooler if it was just half an action figure.

2012-02-26 10:53:01 AM
You mean the creativity to take the shiny silver band from the Star Wars toys and put it on other packages for figures from other movies?

I just bought a whole set covering all four movies in Hong Kong.

you mean the creativity to repaint a bunch of G.I. Joe figures from the early 80s into crappy b-movie characters and stick them on Star Wars cardbacks?

What creativity? I just saw missed opportunities in merchandising.

The Lord Humongous one is pretty cool. The Clint Eastwood one too.

Not missed at all. They're all for sale on ebay.

Hah, that's hilarious. How would that even work? All the Immortals but McLeod are dead and he's won the prize. Geez, the only way you could get a sequel out of that would be if you retconned the fact that they were aliens or something idiotic.

Actually, Kenner was purchased by Hasbro, and have an entire line of retro Kenner-styled Star Wars figures in addition to their usual Star Wars figures.

Also, I own no less than four Bruce Campbell action figures. Three of Ash and one of Sebastian Haff.

Also, Stupid Hipster Crap.com already did these, but with historical and fictional figures.

That's not even a farking repaint! It's just a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull line 3 3/4" figure with a fake Kenner card slapped on it. WHICH HASBRO ALREADY DOES WITH STAR WARS FIGURES.

So, it's like Robot Chicken, but not moving around and being funny and whatnot...

Who the hell would want a Chief Brody action figure??? I mean, a toy Quint would be awesome. But what would you do with a toy Roy Scheider?

2012-02-26 12:37:06 PM
I hate this sort of thing.

What we have here is someone who didn't create anything, but is instead infringing on several copyrights to make a profit. They don't have licensing rights. They didn't create any of those characters. They're just dick-riding the truly creative and the copyright holders in what can only be called counterfeiting.

Go create your own thing. Stop stealing other IPs, asshole.

If you want to make this sort of thing for fun, for your own pleasure, or to show off, that's fine. If you're SELLING them for $60 a pop, then you're a jerk and I hope you get busted.

FIFY

They were supposed to come out with a prequel to Raiders call "Temple of (something)", only the script turned into such a retarded sh*tfest that they never ended up making it.

Like people would have bought into a "volcano roller coaster" scene. Glad they never bothered.

HulkHands: If only Mattel had 1% of this creativity

you mean the creativity to repaint a bunch of G.I. Joe figures from the early 80s into crappy b-movie characters and stick them on Star Wars cardbacks?

Mostly this, though a lot of them I wouldn't deem them all "crappy," and I have to say that I love all of them all despite their level of crappiness. Also, almost all of them have been made as figures already, or had figures made from that property that were much cooler choices than what is shown here (McFarlane diorama of the Orca from Jaws with the shark eating Quint for one).

I'm big into customizing. Simple repaints/repackaging like this are beginners' jobs. The real creativity lies in those of us that use a figure as simply a base, just something to use for the joints, and sculpt whole new parts, fabricate new accessories and, sometimes, mold an entire figure from a 100% original sculpt. This is all stuff that someone could bang out in an afternoon with minimal thought or effort. Grab a Marvel Showdown Gambit coat and a vintage GI Joe, (sloppily) repaint them a little and call it a Rick Deckard figure? Fail. Take that Marvel Showdown Gambit and resculpt it to be a completely accurate and detailed representation of Deckard? Now that's talent and creativity.

Kinda. The overall line was just "Indiana Jones", with each wave being separated by movie. That Indy isn't from the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wave, but from the barely-released Temple of Doom wave that squeaked out right as the line was canceled, which means that homeboy took a very rare and highly sought after figure, ripped it out of its own packaging and slapped it on a cardback that he pooped out of his Epson and is now charging more than it goes for mint on card in its own packaging.

Negatory, I got that whole wave off ebay - sans packaging - for $10 including shipping from Hong Kong. If it sells, he's making $50 and still has fodder let over for more.

Also, who the hell still uses RAH Joes for customs? I've got about 5,000 18th scaled figs (not including vehicles and playsets) for customizing, and RAH figs aren't anywhere near the To Use list for 99% of 18th customizers.

Also also, packaging customs are stupid. Being 'into' MOC figs is like keeping your Prom Date in her clothes because she's pretty that way. It *completely* misses the entire MFing point of the item's existence.

/Yeah, I just inferred that a chick's whole purpose in life is to get boned on Prom Night.

Is it bad that I haven't had my G.I. Joe figures out in probably 20 years, yet I could tell which figures a lot of those parts came from.

2012-02-26 06:35:34 PM
Almost none of them have weapons. And I don't know what "wave the Indy character came from but it his sleeve ripped off, it's from Temple of Doom.

Thats what I was thinking, he just took generic action figures then dressed them up and pasted movie names on the packages.

Im waiting to see how long until he gets shut down for copyright infringement.

Oh, so you *do* want to fight about it, then?

/Also, Mattel is the absolute shiattiest toy company the Human species has ever created. The product they put out is so laughably below their capabilities I can only assume they make shiat deliberately.
//Seriously, a 5-POA Green Lantern fig with one or *maybe* two accessories costs the same to make as a 20-POA Star Wars fig with 5 or 6 accessories, which is why they sell at the same price?
///I *REALLY* wish somebody else would get the DC license.

I saw an Iggy Pop action figure today at Toys R Us and got a little too excited. What was a 27 year old woman doing in Toys R Us looking at action figures for? My hubby is turning 7 in 3 days. Already gave him his Lego X-Wing. Still have yet to give him his Jabba's Palace action figures and Han's Taun-taun.

AdrienVeidt: Also, who the hell still uses RAH Joes for customs? I

that's all i use for customs, for a couple reasons. one, i have like a billion of them so an infinite number of pieces to work with. they are very easy to take apart and reassemble. even now, they have comparable articulation with most modern toys. hell, gi joes from 1983 have significantly better sculpting and articulation than the green lantern toys that mattel crapped out last year. i also use old gi joes because they are a harder plastic than most modern figures; i can paint them and be confident that their arm won't bend and flake the paint back off. the only real problem for me is that old gi joes are actually a little bit shorter than new figures, so my customs look slightly out of scale compared to new figures.
