Bet he's going right for the takedown in the third. That takedown at the end of the second was just a test to see how easy it would be.

As annoying as Rogan can get this is why I love having him cageside. Very few can explain the grappling game without getting too technical for the casual fan.

Seriously. We all make fun of him but I'd rather have no one else call UFC. Joe knows his shiat so well.

Gotta agree. Hated him on Fear Factor, but even though I started watching MMA around UFC 3... he keeps teaching me things, so I can't hate him.

Hioki vs Palaszewski

Intro Notes I'll be calling Hioki as Hioki and Palaszewski by his first name Bart. TOTT has Hioki with two inches in height and three in reach. Ref is Herb Dean.

Round 1

Both start with pawing jabs. Hioki gets a good hook in that Knocks bart down but bart srpings right back up. Both exchange leg kicks and Bart gets a body kick thereafter. Bart continues with another leg kick. Hioki returns witha couple of good jabs on the nose that brighten up Bart's nose. Hioki connects a couple more shots on the face before both exchange a few kicks. THey switch back to jabs, both eating a pair. Hioki grabs onto the leg of Bart and begins to fight fo the takedown. BArt shows the Guillotine. He has the head and looks to pull guard. Jioki manages to land in half guard and keeps the leg off to keep the pressure off the choke. Hioki breaks the arms and quickly advances to side control. He puts a few elbows down before looking for a crucifix. Hioki puts a knee to the body and then smothers bart with short puncehs tot eh side of Bart's head. Bart takes them as Hioki continues to look for the Crucifix while throwing these shots. Hioki puts down a couple of elbows before trying it again. Bart turns out, giving his back to try and get out. Hioki spins to the back and loses the back but manages to grab onto a submission attempt. He looks like he has the triangle but bart slips that, forcing Hioki to swithc to an armbar. THat likes painful! Bart fending off the bend, constantly turning and slipping from just the right position. Hioki eventually lets go and scrambles to get top position back. He's in guard but well postured up and scores some heavy shots to Bart's head before swithcing to a couple of elbows to the body. Hioki stands and looks for a few more shots as the round closes.

10-8 Hioki. Plenty of top control, ground and pound, and good sub attempts with little from Bart.

Round 2

Hioki starts things off with with front kicks and head kick attempts. Bart tries to return witha side kick and head kick of his own, little of anything scoring. bart comes forward with a couple of good straights but eats a counter for it. Hioki gets a small cup check in and both acknowledge the accident before continuing. Bart shows puncehs and scores a good leg kick. THey exchange a couple more puncehs and circle. Hioki looks to the body, scoring a glancing blow. Bart feints the leg kick, puts out a jab, and takes a head kick from Hioki. Hioki continues to put out jabs while Bart looks for a shot to the body. Hioki scores another good stiff jab before Bart returns with a 1-2 leg kick combo, good shots all. Hioki continues to put the pressure on with jabs and leg kicks, scoring plenty of points with each attempt of these shots. Bart tries a couple of punches and Hioki returns with a pair of head kick attempts. Bart returns witha slapping leg kick. They circle and Bart throws another. Bart throws a third, tripping hioki up as he looks for a punch of his own. Hioki resets and puts out a couple of jabs before eating another leg kick. Hioki slowing down a little, only one jab this time and bart puts out a couple more jabs and scores another good leg kick. Hioki scores acup check and Bart takes a quick second, knowing he can't take the time with the good kicks he's scoring. They restart and bart scores a cupcheck of his own that slows things down again. Bart starts the restart of with a leg kick and a good punch combo. Hioki tries a jab and Bart returns with another punch leg kick combo that scores. Hioki scores another jab and BArt combos off it, missing the leg kick this time. Hioki shoots a takedown to change things up. While he doesn't get it he gets the back standing and the round closes.

10-9 Bart. Hioki started strong but started to fade, the leg kicks seem to be working. Hioki's corner is rubbing both legs in between the round

Round 3

Bart takes the center quickly and starts putting out punch combination. Hioki puts out a couple of jabs ot keep the range, then looks for a takedown, winding up in the clinch. He scores a couple of knees before getting over under and dragging Bar tto the ground into a half guard. WEll not really a half guard, pretty much side control. Hioki puts his elbow in Bart's face to make some distance and starts putting short shots in on Bart's head, winding up in true side control for it. He tries to step over for Mount but Bart stuffs him into half guard for the effort. Bart is grabbing at the neck, looking for a choke, but Hioki seems too long for it. Hioki uses the time to move to side control, looking for a crucifix while scoring elbows. Hioki grinds a few more, continuing to look for it before throwing a knee to the body. Hioki switches hup to short punches before Bart tries to turn out. Hioki jumps on the back and looks to mount as Bart stands. He has one hook, Bart tries to stand again and Hioki gets the other hook in. Bart is defending it for now, but Hioki is looking for the Rear Naked choke. Bart doing ell to control the wrist on the outside, leaving little room for the arm of Hioki close to teh cage to do damage. He does throw it though, as little as those arm punches do. Bart is looking to stand up but Hioki digs his hooks in a little deeper. Hioki gets them in fully nad pulls back, now in full control. Hioki puts a couple of elbows on the side of Bart's head before looking for the choke again, switching to a neck crank when bart puts his chin down. Hioki lets it go, switches off to the side and puts a few more elbows before showing an armbar as the round closes

10-8 Hioki. Ground game is all Hioki's. More likly a 10-9 but I'm generous with the domination of the ground game of Hioki. 29-26

Judges score it 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 for Hioki.

I like how he pulls off an insane grappling showcase, and his comments in the end are just, "thanks for saying nice things, I have plenty I need to improve"...

Humble.

Odd that the japanese translator used the english word "striking" to convey that concept to Hioki. You;d think a nation that (sorta) originated karate wouldn't need to borrow the word from a foreign language.

Why is the translator girl using a pen that a 10 year old girl would use?

True that, and the respectful/knowledgeable crowd is a welcome change for a UFC show.
