For them, life begins at conception and ends at birth

As soon as there's an atheist version of Catholic Charities, and the Catholic church stops providing care for the poor and the sick. Until then, this statement is a lie and the writer is a hypocritical ass.

This statement is a lie because you have no idea what you're talking about due to not having read the article.

Too bad this will never get to the mainstream. It is one of the best written and thoughtful articles I've ever seen. We need to do about a thousand replies to santorum's email copying the article.

Writer has had the benefit of being born. And I noticed that the writer was quick not to brand the democrats as being evil for taking corporate money, for endorsing slavery, euginics and economic suicide for those trapped by decades of bad economic policy from the democrats.

/gotta love them when they do that. Stand up Chuck, God Bless ya!

You remember when neighbours helped each other, just 'cause it was the right thing to do? That's socialism too.
It's not nearly as bad or scary a thing as many would have us believe.

The slavery thing was more geographic than partisan, and bad economic policy has a habit of trickling down from both parties now and then. So maybe we call that a draw and deal with the thread at hand?

Democrats favored slavery, jim crow, and discrimination. But the evil history of the democrat party is ignored by democrats.

Here's a fun game, let's stick to what political parties have on their platforms for this current election. Because we could play the "but your team did baaaaad things before" game forever.

The GOP candidates spent nearly 15 minutes in the last debate discussing birth control. This has nothing to do with Jim Crow, Watergate, the War on Terror or how many log cabins Lincoln was born in.

"The United States Republican Party is the second oldest currently existing political party in the United States after its great rival, the Democratic Party. It emerged in 1854 to combat the Kansas Nebraska Act which threatened to extend slavery into the territories, and to promote more vigorous modernization of the economy. It had almost no presence in the South."

Abortions are bad.

Enslaving women to an unwanted fetus/parasite is worse.

Sorry, fetus. You gotta go.

That is a hard world, so try some contraception, you idiots.

I think so too.

The phrase itself goes back to at least 1986 and the Reagan era: Link (new window) and google mostly associates it with Barney Frank (though the link goes to someone else.) But it certainly seems like Barney Frank could have said it first.

It was an okay article, not much terribly new in it. Definitely bordering on tl;dr, especially from a blogger that wants to be a writer. But a fine, fine rant.

I guess I'll just have to fight for the rights of the middle class, double food stamp allotments, and regulate Wall Street until it hurts (them).

I still have yet to hear any explanation as to why birth control is suddenly an issue in the past ~50 years. Why were so many people fine with birth control for the last few thousand years, and then suddenly it's not okay? What changed?

Catholics gave up on the orphans in gay adoption states. And there's tons of non-religious charities.

2012-02-25 09:38:48 PM
Nice piece, but I have literally read all of this before. The sad part is that no matter how many times you bring it up, the righties just don't get it. They never will get it since the cognitive disconnect that allows for that retarded, self contradictory belief system of theirs also prevents them from seeing reason... which is how this whole thing started in the first place.

Obama did something in favor of it, so the Pubs lost their minds.

He set a trap and they ran right into it.

Republicans are shortsighted and myopic as usual. They just like the righteous indignation and the subtle euphoria of feeling persecuted without actually being so that comes with being an abortion prohibitionist. You can't get that from compromising with your enemies in support of things like education and subsidized family planning resources which are proven to lead to less abortions.
