snarketyfarker: Last night we went to Karaoke Bingo night at the Greenwood Senior Center.

The Karaoke bit here reminded me: near the end of many, many drinks last night, a bar manager I know from another bar (not the one we were in) rocked up and bought me a beer, and said I needed to start coming down to his bar on Mon/Tues nights ...

... as that's when they taste-test new beers, and he needed me to drink lots of them to help them test whether or not they were worthy to be included in the 40-some-odd taps they have.

We have a bunch of new pubs here that feature micro-brew and über-micro-brewed beer from all over NZ ... the "über" meaning beer that guys are just doing in their basements (über small amounts).

So now I know what my Mondays and Tuesdays will entail for the foreseeable future.

here to help: valar_morghulis: here to help: valar_morghulis: I'm remaining calorie deficient, hungry, and hateful in an attempt to drop 20 pounds. 8 pounds down. 12 hateful pounds to go.

Starving yourself isn't a very good way to lose weight.

I'm not starving myself. I'm simply burning more than I take in. It sucks, I'm always hungry, but hey.

Have you tried keeping fruits and veggies that are mostly water around to snack on? I think the current school of thought on weight loss is that outright hunger = bad.

Gotta keep the engine going so you can keep burning calories.

My raw veggie/fruit drinks are largely cucumber and celery, with other stuff thrown in (kale, ginger, lemon, etc). My appetite is quite prodigious, so it doesn't matter if I eat a few stalks of celery here and there. I always crave X or Y; it's just willpower at this point. When that isn't enough, caffeine helps. I've been looking into green tea extract to help curb the appetite as well.

I just returned from donating platelets to someone. My blood is a match for a young woman with leukemia and who probably had a bone marrow transplant. This was the third time I've donated to this person. I don't schedule appointments any more, I just wait for them to call me.

So, in answer to subby's question, I saved a life this morning.

Hi I'm Lauren: middleoftheday: I made honest-to-God French toast with eggs... I usually use Egg Beaters, see. It was sooo good.

I'm thinking about making French toast using pumpkin bread. I fear it may be a little too zany for me.

It's exactly the right amount zany!

I vaped a whip while watching a great documentary from National Geographic Channel called American Weed (new window).

It is all about the fight over MMJ here in Fort Collins and the ensuing ban. The dispensary that I recently worked at, Budding Health, features prominently in the series as do my uber-boss Josh, my manager Reise, and several of my old friends and customers.

I'm still a bit heartbroken (and just plain broken) over losing such an amazing job, working with such amazing people, and losing it in such a ridiculous way to boot. This was the only time in my life that I'd ever done something where I felt like I was making a difference and could go home proud.

So watching it has left me a bit...wistful.

You guys should check it out though. Episode 1 of like five or ten I think?

You've earned your smugness. Platelets don't keep very long; frequent donors really make a dent in the demand.

Rincewind53: I'm about to make baked cheddar cheese crackers (basically home-made goldfish).

They're delicious and easy to make

3/4 cup flour
3/4 butter
1 teaspoon salt
3-4 oz extra sharp (the sharper the better) cheddar cheese

and for flavoring:
white pepper
smoked paprika

Put ingredients into a food processor, process on low until everything combines into a dough, stick the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes or until cold, and then roll out, cut into strips or pieces (a pizza cutter works great to slice them up) and bake at 400 for 10 minutes.

I....did several loads of laundry. A load of dishes. Cleaned out cat boxes and took out all the trash. Laid out more cardboard for the pathways I'm building in the garden and in the process figured out a way to get even more beds in the yard, thus getting rid of more grass, which I hate with the heat of a thousand suns. Trying to figure out whether I want those fish tacos I bought the ingredients for, some French toast made with a sourdough a friend sent me, or save the French toast for tomorrow to have with eggs, and go ahead and make the tacos today. Trying to figure out why I'm indulging in shiatty boxed wine when I have perfectly excellent, homemade lemon lime & pear ciders sitting in the fridge from a swap I went to earlier this week. Oh, and watching Four Rooms and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.

And apparently, making crackers!

I'm also being amazed at what an absolutely wonderful and talented crew of misfits are here on Fark. I like these threads!

However am worried about Dex the Wonder Cat. Haven't seen him in two days. Should go look around the estate.

I hope you find Dex too! A missing kitty is the worst thing.

I also am worried about my baby. She's 21 and I think she's on her last legs. But she's had a full and exceedingly happy life.

Thanks. :) I normally go in every two weeks like clockwork but then they said I was some kind of (insert acronym here) match to two or three people, at least one of whom was getting a LOT of platelets. So now they call me every week or so and I head in for an hour on the machine and some V-8. :)

Well, keep trying hopefully your body adjusts. If not it may be hard to keep it off. Might want to ask your doc about it in case there's something else going on that's robbing you of nutrition. But yeah... sounds like you're doing all the right things. Good luck.

Appreciate the advice. I put on the weight through booze and poor eating; HUGE portions once or twice a day, skipping breakfast, not drinking water; basically eating the reverse of the food pyramid. I'm only 24; I have a lot of energy, am generally healthy. I just can't maintain a -great- physique while maintaining my old bad habits.

Since people seem to like the recipe, here it is in action:

First, here's a sample of what the rolled out dough cut up looks like (with salt and paprika sprinkled on top for extra flavor)

Next, baking! Because I cut these into smaller pieces, I only bake for 7-8 minutes (they shouldn't turn brown, if they do you've over-baked them)

Finally, finished product! First batch, at least.

Nope. If I donate 100 units my name goes on a little plaque thingy and pit on the wall with other large-volume donors. I've only been donating regularly for a few months so I'm not anywhere near that.

They do know me there, though. The blood center is a regional one and runs out of Seattle, about 75 miles from here. I go to a local office just down the street, but all scheduling is dome via the main office, I believe. I once called them to confirm an appointment and the lady I spoke with said something like "oh, it's you!" and when I was obviously confused she said my name had come up a couple of times, so I guess that I was a very strong match or have good donor characteristics.

In any case I'm happy to do it; it's not that much time, the people there are very nice and I can read Fark while the machine runs. :)

Oooh. That might be your problem. When heavy drinkers quit or cut back their body can't handle the sudden loss of the quick energy fixes and they become ravenous. You really should ask your doctor about this. Your sugars might be all out of whack amongst other potential issues.

let's see.

Bullet points so far: Yummy, clean, shiatty, clean, clean, informative, got snarky, got poorer, got fuzzy.

Details
Cooked bacon and eggs. Bacon slow, in the pan. Eggs over easy and runny with fresh pepper
Took a shower, shaved and brushed teeth.
Cleared a backup from the septic in the laundry tub. Now I gotta call a plumber or something.
Cleaned my self up again
Load of laundry. (no more backup)
Browsed the news
got 3 greenlights
paid a couple bills
Heated lunch from leftover roast beef and brussels sprouts, polished off half a bottle of wine with and after lunch. (warming up for tonight)

Now to change my jeans and head out to meet friends.

I will. My stepdad's a doctor, might as well give him a ring today. I wasn't, you know, an alcoholic in consumption; I just really enjoy my beer. Fall seasonals especially -- that' when I really stacked on the weight, and then winter came along with egg nog and bacon-wrapped scallops. Mmmm. If I have a beer now it's lite, and only followed by one or two more.

Took my 12-y/o daughter to Karate, then picked up lunch at the best Mexican take-out place in town. Now I'm drinking a couple beers before we go drop off some used books at the library and try to find some old book about unicorns that she's after. Then bring her home for band practice & try not to interfere too much. I haven't thought about dinner yet, but I have some chicken breasts that are going to go bad if I don't do something with them.

This is pretty typical of what "libtards" like me do everyday to undermine American Family Values™ (when we're not hammering welfare checks and forcing our wimmen-folk to have abortions).

I cut out the skirt panels (in both satin and muslin) for the wedding dress I am making. The first fitting is in 8 days. I already finished the bodice (including the lining and stays) so I just have to sew the satin to the muslin underlining, sew the skirt panels together, make the pleats, and sew the skirt to the bodice. After that I just have to baste in the zipper and we'll be ready for the first fitting.
