Less QQ and more pew-pew.

I, uh. I have to do some research, er... investigating or something... on that subject. So I'll get back to you.

Science: Having a penis makes you act stupid on the internet

It's not news, it's...

2012-02-24 02:54:11 PM
The difference begins with privacy settings. A full two-thirds of female users allow only friends to view their Facebook, LinkedIn or MySpace pages without restrictions, while fewer than half of male users do so.

That's because men don't have to worry about being stalked by horny women.

2012-02-24 02:55:46 PM
I dunno... I've seen some questionable behavior on both sides. I guess if some of the smarter Farkettes would be kind enough to volunteer some pictures of their vulva; we could test the veracity of this headline.

2012-02-24 02:56:38 PM
That is why I remove mine before entering the internet. Now, if I can only remember where the heck I left it. Hey wait, that proves that its the internet that makes you stupid.

women, on average, behave more like mature, responsible adults while men act like impulsive adolescents.

And, this is news, .... How?

Newsflash! Women are more timid than men!

If you find that amazing here are some more mind blowing facts:

The sky is blue!

The earth revolves around the sun!

Martial artists can't fly through the air!

Kick-ass female action heroes are the sewage runoff from rotten brains!

Badly, oftentimes.

'Course none of that stops it from being one of the best tools we have.

Women are using the privacy mode because men are hitting on them. Men want to be hit on. So who's smarter?

Quasar: "Explain the sexysubmittedselfshots tumblr, then."

You have to look at the definitions. They're giving women points for being smart/mature for things like keeping their profile private, pruning their friends list and not posting pictures they later regret. But those are just things women have to do more-often than men because of stalkers, haters, perverts and mouthbreathers.

So it's no real contradiction to point out that women share salacious details anonymously. It's just another side of the same coin: they do it that way because they have to.
Unless, ya know, they've got a wish list. In which case they do it pseudonymously.

What that article (and the pew report necessarily does not include) is whether or not the men actually experience more negative outcomes for the same levels of social media immaturity as women do.

Probably not - women are held to a different moral standard, particularly with drinking and sex. That probably is why they have to guard their social media whatsits more closely.

"In a 2011 telephone survey, the Pew Internet and American Life Project found that 30 percent of teenagers who were regularly online had shared a password with a friend, boyfriend or girlfriend. The survey, of 770 teenagers aged 12 to 17, found that girls were almost twice as likely as boys to share."

I've never gotten BIE. How does that work?

First, it's a generalization. Exhibitionists surely exist. (and may spaghmon bless and keep them)
Second, it's kinda like street musicians: they put it out there for everyone, provided the minority of individuals kick back enough consideration to make it worthwhile.

You can say you've heard some awesome music in the park. And you can say you never had to pay a dime for it.
But that doesn't change the fact that most musicians who play in the park are doing it to make some money.

It generally starts with being polite and asking nicely of the generous souls who provide them.
