...and the dog runs away. awesome.

From the article, I can tell that the boy's dog is a democrat, but the boy himself is not a democrat.

Officials say the teen punched the coyote repeatedly in the nose until it ran off.

If that story won't get him laid more often, nothing will.

Teenager? Shouldn't that have read ACNE?

Tate said coyotes are present throughout the state and typically show no interest in humans or pets.

Humans, maybe...but small cats and dogs, especially un-savvy house pets, are very attractive to opportunistic coyotes.

This is why teenagers should be allowed to buy guns.

A coyote weighs, what, 35 pounds?

I would like to think my dogs would try and defend me against another dog weighing 35 pounds. I know the weener dog would. Not so sure about the big dog.

Because the dog behaved intelligently, but the kid was crazily aggressive? Just guessing.

Tate recommends people yell at coyotes to instill fear. Most, he said, will retreat when faced with loud noise or thrown objects.

"Shout at it. Make sure it knows you are a threat,'' Tate said. "If it comes at you, hit it hard on the head and snout.''

With one of these of course

Well, both are good qualities, depending on the situation.
If it was a 5 pound "dog" (i don't consider those dogs) then cowardice would keep it from being eaten. Bigger than you = run away
The kid would obviously be bigger and heavier than the coyote, therefore heroism would be good, cause he'd be able to overpower it eventually, like in article. Smaller than you = punch in nose.

Although, heroism when outmatched, while having the distinct possibility of getting you creamed, has been known to work in certain desperate circumstances . Bigger than you + Desperation = fight to the last.

Although, taking some events in history, that last one could read: Bigger than you + Desperation = Kamikaze.

To summarize, both are good in certain circumstances, you just need to pick your battles.

Yes you are correct. Running away and leaving his master (who feeds him) to be attacked is intelligence - democrat style.

You might be surprised. My parents got one of those. It was a chihuahua. They had sworn never to get another dog after the pointer died but this little biatch was starving and hanging around so they took it in.

It turned out to be a great pet. It hardly ever barked unlike the reputation of such dogs.

So one day a rottweiler came to visit and the chihuahua felt like her terroritory was threatened and while she wasn't suicidal enough to sink her teeth into the much larger dog she stood her ground and growled and snapped while the rottie just looked at her in amusement and thinking it was all just a big game.

That attitude may be what allowed her to survive her homeless period.

It makes me wonder if people like you are trying to compensate for something when you look down on smaller dogs.

I'm going to second the notion that little dogs can be fierce. I got attacked by a doberman when I was a kid and two of my neighbors' dachshunds actually chased it off.

I live in northern Mass and I have coyotes. There was one a while ago; I think someone was feeding it because the animal was becoming a nuisance. I was mowing my backyard lawn and the coyote just strolled out of the woods from behind me, no bark, growl, warning, no nothing. I turned around and there it was. It sat in front of me looking like it wanted food for a few mins. Then it got up and walked back into the woods. I haven't seen it since but the experience was weird to say the least.

Your first crack was kind of funny, but now you're losing me on the gist of the joke... also, the conversation between you and the skinny chick with the living room decorated by my grandma reminds me of something you'd see from an old Bioware game when two chaotic evil characters start talking.

This morning has confused and frightened me severely.

Actually the rabid Coyote is a republican, sick and stupid from a disease that effects its brain. The boy is Obama, putting the Coyote in its place by repeatedly punching it in the face, coming away with just scrapes that are treatable.

A disease apparently affects your brain, in the spelling region I should imagine. Also, why do you say Obama repeatedly punches? Are you a racist?

Yes, there's been plenty of both in this thread.

Also, I'll be sure to tell my mother about what you think of her sense of style. Especially since I've essentially told her the same thing.

THIS
House cats are a favorite meal. Although the coyote's main prey is rodents they will take cat if there is the slightest chance. During a warm spell at the start of the year we evicted a large feral cat colony. It contained 62 cats. I haven't seen anymore, but they should be out next week to put out traps again encase there are others. One of the reasons for evicting the colony was i kept finding cat parts.
Local news likes to run a "cat killer" story once and a while. Good news is that 9 times out of 10 it isn't some deranged sicko, it's coyotes and sometimes foxes. Still doesn't stop the news media from making stuff up. This leads to people either being ignorant of the coyotes or unaware. Even big cities have them.

Coyotes still do a far better job at rodent control than a bunch of barn cats. That is if there isn't already a steady supply of cats, trash and pet food to eat first.

Toy breeds are easy fair for coyotes. If you live in the country really honestly consider a large-ish breed of dog. Coyotes will do back flips over a fence for a bite of yorkie. They will do it in the 10 seconds you have your back turned too.

Molavian: It's a coyote. Shoot it next time.

Better yet, call it in close, then shoot it.

Nothing is more exciting than calling in a predator, especially one that has the ability to actually hurt you. Make it fair, though, and use a primitive weapon like a traditional bow, or maybe a single-shot muzzleloader.

Also, stop eating beans by the bucketful you hayseed.
