CAT-LIKE TYPING DETECTED: Cap Cloud (new window) over a cumulonimbus with the sun shining in between the two (to the viewers perspective) from the upper left corner of the shot..which explains the following:

Came to say this -- looks like the CB is starting to form and the anvil head is just starting to fan out.

Retort: zakke: Meh.

This is a much freakier cloud phenomena (new window)

That was really cool. What did it turn out to be?

It looks like high speed winds stripping vapor off of the cloud and up into the sunlight. It looks weird because you can only see the vapor or ice or whatever it is when it gets out of the shadows.

Why yes i have spent allot of time looking at clouds. I think the weirdest thing to see aren't lenticular clouds (expecially if your near the mountains) Its either a morning glory or mammatus cloud.

The morning glory for those who have never seen one looks like a big tube stretching across the sky from horizon to horizon. I got to see one over Edson AB in 2008.

\ Wanna know weather? Go watch for forest fires for a job. You will see clouds -- and trees. And lighting. Very awesome job.

I have a friend who used to do that until he was in a bad pedestrian vs car accident (he was the pedestrian) and sustained a head injury. He now has seizures severe enough that it's not safe for him to do the job any longer, due to the isolation.

He loved working as a fire lookout for the forest service and it saddens him that he can never work for them again.
