John Buck 41: Hi all. Interesting week at Buck Manor.

We are ok, pets, too. House is still (mostly) in one piece. A spark between the pellet stove and the outside vent got caught in the wall, probably sometime last weekend and continued to smolder til Tuesday morning. We have a gaping hole about 4' by 7' in the living room. FD showed up about 7:40am and were there for about 90". They did a great job not trashing the living room too badly, just some water damage and a few knick-knacks/dog toys wet and/or nasty from plaster. And more smoke damage than I thought Tuesday afternoon. Insurance is all current and paid up and they will pay for us to stay in a local motel for as long as is needed, as well as repairs/restoration.

That's it in a nutshell. Lots more details but they are unneeded at this point.

Oh my god. Thank the powers that be that it was caught in time to prevent more damage. I am glad it was not more serious.

when the weeks start turning into months please hang in there. this too
shall pass; it takes time. i wish you all the strength and courage it takes
to get the insurance ball rolling and landing a competent and honest
contractor.

Also like predle's Big Bobcat pic at top of Lucky Pg 7, as John Buck 41 does. On ARS this AM, I was able to vote for the Shelter Challenge for 1st time in days! Get to click on primary button, then time out for everything else, incl 6 other Gtr Gd sites.

i43.tinypic.com
Not the bobcats I meant to fetch from ARS! There was an appeal to support some who're evidently in vet care for a bit that didn't save. Bobcats were in a color roundel with type at ft. This one's from Ntl Geo, will have to do. & I gotta go apply makeup for PM performance.

yellowcat: cyberbenali: Good morning!! I could get used to hanging around here early. Not so many posts to wade through by this time.

On the bright side, I have started the initial submission process. I handed my thesis in on Wednesday, I will get the pre-review back today and I should be able to officially submit next Monday! Hence, why I have more time now to browse Caturday. :)

Congratulations! Still kicking myself in the butt that I never finished my thesis -- did the course work, did the research, then got a job and "real life" got in the way ... One of these days I'm going to finish writing it just to prove to myself that I can.

Do that if you want to get the letters (and maybe a little boost in pay), but the point of a thesis/master's degree is usually to get a real job in a field you enjoy. Maybe it served its purpose. (Submitted by a Ph.D. who knows students who finish and those that don't, all are successes in my book as long as they have a life they enjoy.)

Meant to welcome Crackers Are a Family Food back, who hasn't been seen in some time. There are also others we wish mightily would return .......
Made up, need to leave house in ~60 min. Am ready, except to put on singing garb, which is ready to be donned. As it's black & white this time (not traditional black with red overlay) it'll still need last-minute donning to keep white cat sheddings off it!

Thanks for the encouragement (you too laulaja). I found that the Master's process was more about the experience than about the research itself or the degree that awaits. It is a neat topic, I had tons of data to play with and I will likely get at least two articles but I learned a lot about self-reliance/self-confidence and that will stick with me. I dunno if it was because I went through a lot of life changes during these 2+ years but, unless I keep steering towards research, I don't think it will matter that much in the end. Writing the thesis, although demanding, was probably the best part of the whole experience. It made the guilt, frustration and stress seem (mostly) worth it. Also helps that the main article is pretty kick ass...

Aww - thanks akimbotoo. Some peeps will never understand... it's just not really about the article submitted. While it helps to have a nice, uplifting article, most weeks, I don't even look at it. It's about everyone getting together, posting funny (mostly cat) pics, getting and giving laughs, advice, and support.

And here's a hug right back atcha :)

Thanks. The weather here has been crazy, and that's my big trigger. Hopefully, it will go away today because it's supposed to stabilize.

I hate yo-yo weather and the havoc it wreaks with joints, migraines, etc. I'm currently dealing with a sciatic nerve flare up that was triggered by a fall on the #$&)(*&^ ice! My chiro & I thought we had it under control, but it got worse this week. Hopefully the adjustments, massage, and stretches will resolve the issue. It makes me feel blah and lurky.

Ty all. She went quick as the doc pushed the drug, so we know she was ready--even the doc was surprised, and the 'rents work at a vet clinic, so I'm not sure she could have gotten better care. I made sure to tell her about Rainbow Bridge, which I have to thank Fark for, because I never would have known about it otherwise. Thanks for helping make her passing peaceful.

Sickapie: Hey everyone. Let's just get this out of the way and be done with it.

...breathe...

Ok. Went to the OS on Tuesday. Brought the xrays that I picked up from the lab. They didn't see anything on them that would indicate anything resembling a break or a fracture. Sent me home with a wrap that was a little stronger than an Ace. SO...$70 later ($50 copay and $20 for the wrap because my ins. didn't cover it) that's it.

Today, I get a call from my primary dr. telling me to make an appt with the OS. Huh? I told them I already did that and went this past Tuesday. Oh, they ask, how did that go? I asked them if they really wanted to know or were they just being kind. Pause. I told them that had Dr. (primary dr) actually looked at the xray itself and not just the report, he would have seen what the OS saw and saved me some money and some time. I understand that he was being cautious, but dammit, that's overdoing it. They just said, OK, we'll make a note in your chart.

Don't get me wrong, I"m glad I'm ok and that there's nothing wrong (except for a little pain, which I'm taking Naproxin for), but FFS...

So Glad that your ankle is Not Broken:} I understand about having Doctors that don't bother to read your chart before they talk to/treat you...If you were in the Dallas area I would get you set up with my PCP... I have had him over 20 yrs and dread the day he ever decides to retire! He can make things happen and works his way thru the Maze of Rules and Paperwork for the various Insurance Companies to get you what you need when you need it!
But if you don't like/Trust Your PCP or any Specialist, change Doctors...check with Friends & Family how they like their Docs and find one that will get to know You and Treat You the way you need to be treated.

My cat Lynx just died. He was a tough little cat who'd been through a LOT, and even the cancer that finally got him took several tries.

Sorry to hear, but glad you are all safe!

Big weekend in the Daytona area. I'll stay close to home 'till "they" leave. For any race fans have a great weekend! I worked across from the track (new window) for 25+ years and it was always fun. I'd park cars on the driving range, then head to Savannah for a few days. All who helped park got a nice cash bonus!

Today is Ace Hardware's 20% off day.........why am I giving them a plug?
