(The Hill)   New Gallup poll: If the election were held today, 50 percent of those polled would support Romney, versus 46 percent who would support Obama, but it all could change in the next two weeks if Romney and Santorum keep their mouths open   (thehill.com) divider line 205

bugontherug: RexTalionis: bugontherug: So far, numerous other polls have been posted showing Obama in the lead. Gallup is giving bogus figures at a critical moment for maximum electoral impact.

Eh. I don't think Gallup is giving bogus figures at all. They just released a number that is a statistical outlier. That kind of stuff happens in polling, you never know who the people you reach are going to be. Bet you their next poll will show a completely different result.

"Bogus" might have been too strong a word. Earlier I used "massaged." I don't think Gallup is likely to release completely false polling data, since if they get caught, their reputation is at stake. I absolutely think Gallup would headline an outlier at a critical moment to reinforce a preferred Republican narrative. I've seen it happen too many times now for it to be coincidence. If they're caught, they just give some rationalization for why they picked those numbers over the more realistic numbers.

This is their presidential daily tracking poll. Over the course of the next week or so, its numbers will gradually adjust themselves to comport with what every other poll is saying.

They released this data, knowing that it was in error most likely, simply to prop up Romney going into the big southern primaries where voters are going to favor Santorum because he more clearly aligns with their evangelical christian agenda.

This isn't about Obama at all, it's about propping up Mittens.

It's also pretty duplicitious on the part of Gallup, but not fraudulent (You can't prove that they realized their data was an outlier).

Yes, 50% polled by some right-leaning polling outfit would support someone right-leaning.

I'm shocked, I tell you...

the_geek: I seriously don't get the FUD about Romney. Policy-wise nothing scares me about him. What's the big concern, that he will waffle back and forth on principles based on what the electorate wants? OMGNOOOOOO!

/I only vote third party for POTUS so please don't take this as supporting Romney or Obama

If you don't like Romney's positions, wait ten minutes and he will change them.

Yes, I agree that it is about Mittens, and it is about the primary, not the general. This poll will be long forgotten by November. For now, it reinforces Mitt's image as the "electable" Republican.

2012-02-23 10:39:06 PM
Who'd they poll? Fifty Senators and forty-six parking attendants in the GOP's Capitol Hill parking structure?

2012-02-23 10:50:33 PM
Wow, you mean they polled people after Romney has a good debate, and his numbers get a bounce?
1. Romney is going to have to spend a ton of money to get the nomination. Obama doesn't
2. Once it starts for real, Obama will be riding improved unemployment numbers, a recovering economy, and be sitting on a significant warchest.
3. The damage is done. Romney isn't going to win Michigan, which is gonna donkey punch his campaign

2012-02-23 11:20:36 PM
It'd be nice if pollsters required people to explain why they believed the way they did rather than just giving an either/or respose.

Hmmm, then again, finding out why these monkeys still supported the GOP would probably make my head asplode.

2012-02-23 11:24:59 PM

Serious Black: Which is the outlier? The Gallup poll that says Romney is up by 4, or the Rasmussen poll that says Romney is down by 10?

My brain asploded.

I would love to see his response to heterosexual and homosexual dating. 10 to 1 says by the end of the day Mittens will be bi.

One thing to "flip-flop", every politician does it. Sometimes for good reasons (they learn or become wiser, or simply change their opinion), other times they do it for narcissistic political survival. Mittens is in a category all by himself. Never in my life have I really witnessed someone so void of any real thought. If it came down to it, I honestly believe he would try to court the Marxist vote. What does Mittens really stand for? Himself, and that is why this man should never be allowed to hold elected office.

That is the 44% that will vote Against Obama. You could put Ham Sandwich VS Obama and the stats would be the same.

I will not speculate on why they will vote that way but they will. If Obama personally gave them Jobs they would demand that he dance for them and still vote against him all while smiling a shiat eating grin.

REPUBLICANS & BIRTH CONTROL

1. Moderator asks a question to GOP candidates: who will support birth control?

2. GOP primary voting audience: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

3. Every candidate says birth control causes immoral behavior and Romney even says it CAUSES out-of-wedlock births. Contraceptives CAUSE unplanned pregnancies - WTF???? Then they go on a rampage about abortion - linking two concepts that should not be (responsible contraceptives and abortion).

Spin it how you want dumbass, but it ain't positive. Every one of those dipshiats had the chance to say something like, "The right to use contraception is an important health choice for every American to have, but it is not the government's place to force any third party to pay to facilitate that right. Contraceptives are a citizen's right and a personal choice. Your employer doesn't have the responsibility to pay to facilitate your right to use contraceptives any more than they have the responsibility to pay for you to have a newspaper or website to exercise your right to free speech. I look forward to having a spirited debate about this with President Barack Hussein Obamacare in the general election."

Your party is farked. farked. farkED. farkEDfarkED come November because I (who completely support socialized medicine) can come up with a more coherent and bridge-building Republican talking point than your four "best" minds.
