Good luck with that.

Seriously. Keep running on those ideas. I'm sure that Voodoo Economics will work. Eventually. In some Universe. Possibly not our own, but you are doing your part to keep the etheric continuim alive, and by our failures to make it work here, that means some other Universe is chugging along well and good with it. This sacrifice here, so that the idea can remain alive somewhen else is a brave, brave, brave sacrifice...

Clearly we need to break the unions and increase tuition on free-loading college students. It amazes me that people still don't get this.

Let's not forget military families. Total free ride--if they want benefits, then they need to get on the front lines themselves...

Except for the children of members of Congress; they had the foresight and ability to be born into the correct family, so they don't have to pay for college at all.

That's different. Those are job creators. If anything, anyone who owns shares in the Fortune 500 companies--majority shares that is, let's not get crazy and include hedge funds or some nonsense--should totally get their health care paid for. And their schooling as well. Heck, we should just pay them to breathe their job creatorness out...

Small blurb on Ron's plan to cut $5b under a headline that already declares all plans will increase the deficit. Maybe he was excluded since he is not seen as a contender.

The GOP has never had a problem with borrowing money. They just take issue with what it's being spent on.

They can just cut more programs that the states and cities use then those states and towns can raise regressive taxes to make up the difference. They can also transfer the costs of medicare to user fees so that the middle class will have to pick up the tab for all that too. No big deal.

Well, if you add foreign aid (don't touch Israel's though!) and the UN, yeah.

2012-02-23 11:36:52 AM
Both men have proposed to sharply cut taxes but have not identified spending cuts sufficient to make up for the lost cash, the report said.

Well yeah, this is the entire economic platform of the republican party.

Their plans kill revenues. And since none of them will cut defense (last night Mitt called for more battleships and jets) any cuts will have to be to social welfare programs. Their tax plans will absolutely destroy the middle class, even more so than has been done in the last thirty years.

No - he is not seen as a top contender, and rightly so. It's amazing how one little word changes the meaning of the headline.

In all seriousness, right now, the federal government should be loading up dump trucks to our lenders to borrow money from them. The real yield on 5-year T-bills has been negative since last April, 7-year T-bills have been negative since last August, and 10-year T-bills have been zero or negative since last November. The market is screaming at the top of its lungs that it wants to give us free money. Who the fark is dumb enough to not take free money when its being offered to them?

Because Republicans will never raise the necessary revenue to pay it back. They'll scream about liberals spending all your money, while they will fight to decrease taxes for the wealthy and continue to increase military spending all paid for with more debt. It's like there was only one episode of "Republican Economics" and it's replayed on TBS every afternoon.

Perhaps, but only if they can have more wars. Iran, probably Yemen, perhaps Somalia as well. Maybe even Sudan. The GOP loves them some war.

"Small government": Massive defense spending, huge corporate giveaways and regressive social policies.

Once again, "small government" is a lie. The power-brokers advancing the meme don't believe a word of it, cause it's fundamentally meaningless.

Well, of course. Remember, deficit spending - not governing - is what the winners of elections get to do.

I was completely amazed they all (except for Paul) are pretty much set on a war with Iran the minute they are sworn in 'cause they might get nuclear weapons.

When Paul brought up the fact that many of the Soviet era nuclear weapons are unaccounted for they were like deer in the headlights.

As long as no one they know has to fight in it. That's called the Cheney-Nugent effect.

The GOP should apply this logic to their campaign donors. Ask the richest ones to give less and see how that works out for their revenue stream.

Job creation and improving America's infrastructure are inconsequential compared to scoring political victories over Obama's policy proposals.

Ron Paul is a complete and utter nut case, but his knowledge base of pure facts is bigger than Mittens, Santorum and Crybaby all put together.

2012-02-23 11:51:30 AM
All the GOPs front runners have plans to cut taxes and SPEND EVEN MORE. They want huge increases in defense spending which is the largest discretionary expenditure of the budget by far. It's about the same as all other government departments added together.

They want a larger increase in the largest government department that exists.

When you are saying "I want to drastically expand HALF of all government" how is that "small government"?

I have searched and cannot find. In all the multiverse, in and amongst all the realities I have sought it. I have walked all the myriad ways and I can tell you: in an infinite number of universes it has been tried and in each and every one, supply-side economics has failed, bringing naught but misery and ruin.

ALSO WE DON'T NEED REVENUE. PEOPLE SHOULD GO TO CHURCHES FOR HELP.

LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!!!
