I hope Seattle gets a team one day, but it shouldn't and won't be at Sacramento's expense. The area has supported bad teams for almost 30 years, and has put up with arguably the dumbest owners in sports.

Go after the Hornets or Grizzlies, no one gives a shiat in their towns.

As much as I would like to blame Stern, if the arena doesn't get built its on the city council. Although Stern has been up to his usual tricks, claiming that bringing in AEG is a "team contribution."

This. I stopped watching professional basketball once Paul Arizin popularized the jump shot. Before Arizin, players kept their feet firmly on the floor, which is the fundamental way to play basketball. After that, it became less about who had better form and fundamentals and more about athletic ability and skill. I'll give you an example. I was at the bar the other day and a tall black gentleman for the road team forcefully placed the ball into the basket using both hands. I said to the bartender, "What the fark is this?" He said "He dunked the basketball." I asked him how that could possibly be legal. He said "There's nothing wrong with dunking." And I said, "No, you idiot, since when have black people been allowed to participate in professional sports?" He asked me to leave the bar because he knew I was right. Basketball has been going downhill since the level of play exploded in the sixties and we all know the reason for that. I'll stick to "pure" sports like hockey, thanks. God damn basketball players. Act like they're the best athletes in the world...

I've heard they have plans to build another stadium just South of Safeco. Key Arena isn't bad but the seats are small and poorly placed. We attended a roller derby bout there last month. It was fun, but the seating issue made it a pain in the ass

2012-02-23 04:44:22 AM
I was being facetious about Key Arena, actually. It's terribly located, terrible for parking, and as you've mentioned, terrible seating-wise.

As far as SoDo, they really need to invest in some roads down there if they are expecting to move in something like a new stadium.

What about Auburn? or even Tukwila?

I know that some property was purchased recently with noise being made about a new stadium, and it makes sense with them moving up here. There's lots of roadwork going on there already, perhaps in anticipation.
That area is already a mess if too many event are poorly planned and coincide with the rush to get on the ferries, freeways and an event. It's best to take the bus.

2012-02-23 05:37:35 AM
Does Seattle really want DeMarcus Cousins, Tyreke Evans and J.J. Hickson playing there? I haven't seen a bigger bunch of low I.Q. chuckers since the Portland Jailblazers.

2012-02-23 05:47:19 AM
It's already been said but Sacramento actually cares about the Kings, don't steal their team, I figure Sonics fans can appreciate that. The NBA is in enough markets that don't really care (New Orleans, Charlotte, Memphis).

Look, what happened to Seattle sucks, but don't hate on Sacramento here. They've been working their asses off to keep the Kings, and support that team having no real reason to for the past 10 years or whatever.

You want to give Seattle a franchise back, stop trying to cram MJ back into the league and give them the Bobcats.

Sac shouldn't lose their team, but the arena financing fiasco that's ongoing is a complete rat fark. The proposed location is horrible, there's no money for the associated "transit hub",they want to auction off the city parking franchise for 50 freaking years, they expect the Maloofs to toss in 85 million bucks when they still owe 70 on Arco, and it just came out the other day that the freaking new arena (that they swear up and down will cost 387 mill) hasn't even been designed yet. "Johnson said, in addition to the March 1 deadline set by the NBA, the city also faced a sense of urgency to begin designing a new arena within the next 30 days to have it completed in time for the 2015 NBA season.". How the fark do you know how much it's going to cost if you haven't ever designed the goddamn thing?

Honestly? I want Seattle to take these goobers off our hands. I'm not averse to having an NBA team, but the team has gotten into a death spiral where they're going to remain bottom feeders, we have to deal with the Maloofs, who are some of the worst and most irresponsible owners in sports, and the arena is being railroaded through the council by our idiot mayor, who is selling off city assets to pay for something that will go to benefit a private interest.

I love sports, but I have a hard time believing that arenas and stadiums can't be built without fleecing the cities in which they're located. And if they can't? They don't need to be built there. If you absolutely must use public funds, I want a public ownership stake. Which the public never gets.

Well, baseball towns aren't necessarily basketball towns, and Sacramento doesn't support any other major sport franchises for a reason.

The fact that there are no other big-league teams in a city generally hasn't stopped the NBA before. See Portland, Utah, San Antonio, Orlando, OKC (sorry Seattle), Memphis, pre-NFL Charlotte, etc.

I really haven't followed Sacramento's particular situation too closely though.
