This is pretty much exactly what hubiestubert has been saying about Roemer and about himself. Best of luck to Buddy...he's not insane like the rest of 'em.

"What did you expect from the teabaggers, Buddy? Come on in, son? Marry my daughter? You have to remember these are simple boomers. These are people of the derp. The Rascal-bound common clay of the new GOP. You know, morons."

He was for getting the money back out of politics.. so of course they wouldn't even acknowledge that he existed, and shut him out of all debates.

Thanks subby for having to remind me of how farking backwards Louisiana (outside of New Orleans...although you don't have to go far outside it) is.

Nope, still doesn't ring a bell.

He added: "It is time to heal our nation and build a coalition of Americans who are fed up with the status quo and the partisan gridlock that infects Washington. Together, we will take on the special-interests that control our leaders and end the corruptive influence of money in politics so we can focus on America's top priority - jobs."

A damn shame. A Republican I might actually have voted for.

/We NEED campaign finance reform if we have to amend the constitution to do it.
//How can we call ourselves a democracy when every candidate is bought by millionaires?

To be fair according to Wikipedia David Duke was some kind of wizard and wizards are awesome. And not just any kind of wizard he was a grand wizard he may even be more powerful that Gandalf. He must have used a potent spell to win that primary.

Actually, he refused to take it in the first place. A damn shame he didn't get any traction...he would have gotten me to vote Republican.

The problem with Buddy Roemer is that he doesn't have a billionaire sugar-daddy to prop him up.

Raging Fark libtard here, and even I like the Roemer on most days. It has nothing to do with my Louisiana ties; I'm genuinely not appalled or disgusted by the guy. These days that's what passes as a ringing endorsement.

/felt this way about Jindal back in the day, but look how that turned out

Don't know why everyone here loves him, he seems to have been an ineffectual governor. He has sane policy positions for the most part, but he's just "meh."

He'd probably be an ineffectual president, which would have been acceptable 120 years ago, but will screw us over in this era.

Do you want a president who's got his face buried in paperwork trying, in an ever so dull way, to fix things, or do you want a loud, obnoxious, fundie nutjob who's pissing himself for the chance to push the red button and start Operation Bring Jesus Back?

Given what's offered, I'll take the nerd.

Pretty much this.

My father once told me, "Look for the same qualities in a president as you would in a lawyer."

I followed him until he began speaking at Tea Party events and got derpy.

Google his name and you'll reach his campaign website. I'll tell you right now that the biggest positions he pushes most frequently are getting big money out of politics, reinstating Glass-Steagall, and instituting fair trade laws.

GODDAMMIT!

Well, that's it. I'm out. Not a damn one the stage that I'd vote for in a general election, so screw this. They want to let the Idiot Brigade put forward the candidates, I can't stop them. I can vote against the Idiot Brigade at the polls though. Won't be joining the Democrats anytime soon, but maybe the Modern Whigs need an organizer or someone to work the phones...

One of the fascinating things about being on Fark as long as I have is watching people's personal politics evolve.

Well, their political views tend to stay the same, the party that they consider themselves a member of changes.

Do you realize how rare that is?

/That said, you're probably right about the ineffectiveness -- Congress doesn't tend to like people who challenge their cozy relationships with their donors.

There's been a lot of talk about him taking up the American's Elect nomination. His name has been high on the list there for a while and he's said he would like to look at that option. So he may have canceled out of the GOP race, but that doesn't mean he's not done running.

2012-02-23 10:19:21 AM
Buddy Roemer was on Real Time with Bill Maher a few weeks back. Easily the only Republican running for a federal office that I didn't want to punch in the face repeatedly. Didn't agree with everything he said, but there was little to no DERP involved.

So of course the guy never stood chance.

So another nonexistent candidate leaves. Sad thing about a democracy is that people have to vote for you before you can get elected. Roemer was just a good excuse for some people to pretend they were republicans by supporting a fringe candidate who never had a chance. It also looks now that Roemer was only pretending to be a republican too so they were in good company.

True. Since obviously money equals experience and validity of speech, and Roemer made it a point to not take Big Money, obviously he spoke to no one of any sort of validity in the party. The message, and the candidate should be passed up, unless they have large money backing, because money equals speech. Truly, you have a finger on the pulse of the party, and the nation.

You can have it. I tried. I held on for as long as I could, even while the party leadership flushed down every thing that I believed in, from fiscal sense, to belief in the Constitution. What you call "pretending to be Republican" you can have. It's yours. I will continue to be Conservative, even as the GOP pisses on anything remotely looking like a Conservative position--eschewing it for radical tripe that hates the Constitution, hates its neighbors, hates the very faith that it pretends to embrace, by rejecting those who disagree with the tenets of a Prosperity Gospel that reject the very teachings of a carpenter from Nazareth.

Have them. They're yours. I tried, and I will admit, myself and others, we failed to turn the party away from the precipice. You can keep going though, and cheering on Dominionist rhetoric and fiscally irresponsible and frankly dangerous embrasure of radicals who hate the foundations of this nation. Cheer and wave that flag for your team as opposed to anything resembling sane policy.

Except that he's been campaigning against big donors and PACs from the beginning, and in fact explicitly rejected any and all donations above $100.

I'm with you there. The prosperity gospel is a lie and a heresy most foul, and this comes from me who walked away forever from Christianity after experiencing its misuse.

I watch this terrible and relentless engine of destruction now outside of me go on and on and on and on and on and in a distant way it still hurts terribly.

How is it the GOP ends up hating ITS OWN BASE?
