Definitely sounds similar, but it was Civilization.

Where will the cruise ship captains know where to crash their ships?

I LOLed BIG TIME!!!

Time to haul CIV 3, 4 or 5 out :)

Aren't lighthouses referred to as `speed-bumps' by Italian ship captains?

Oh gawd, I always suspected Farkers of being Civ players. This may account for why we seem to know how to do a better job running the world than anyone else.

Well done subby.

I hear Civ5 has a new xpack coming out late Q2 to add Religion and Espionage back in. Finally some complexity to the game. Oh and they said they redefined AI competitiveness but I doubt that.

We've had a firehouse for sale, now a lighthouse for sale.

Which type will be next? Bawdy? Cat? Dog? Road?

You bastards! I just spent the last two evenings playing an epic Civ4/RoM:AND modded gigantic map game until I met an unfixable crash bug. :(

Meanwhile on Civ5, seems their team put way too much faith in this quote:

I didn't quite like Civ 5 at first... but it grew on me.

I'm waiting on that expansion pack! I only got the add-on Spanish/Inca civs. Thought about getting more recently... but will wait for the pack.

I've always had the feeling that fishermen in Civ V hover around the base of the lighthouse at night and shoot whatever sea creatures get dazzled by the light.

The ai in civ five is terrible. Only fun when put on the hardest difficulty, but then computer players cheat, so I have to cheat with mods. Espionage is making a much needed comeback I hear.

This is based on an actual radio conversation between a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier (U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln) and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. (The radio conversation was released by the Chief of Naval Operations on 10/10/95 authorized by the Freedom of Information Act.)

Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid collision.

Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH--I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH--OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

Call to power.

I used to love Civ, and most other turn based strategy games. Now they make them too complex, and I just don't have days on end to play them out. Many fond memories of Civ and Civ 2, though. And my all time favorite, Heroes of Might and Magic III (back when it had AI)

2012-02-22 05:37:29 PM
squidgod2000: Civ5 was a great game--too bad Steam sucks ass and the game won't load anymore.

I gave up on it after about 6 months. I kept trying, but it never grew on me.

Bad:
1) I found the AI to be terrible and easily exploited
2) Other world leaders were schizo. Within a couple turns they could go from being perfectly happy with you, sharing trade with you, same civics as you, etc., to declaring war. It just never made sense how they were programmed.
3) Easily start a war with one city-state and slowly build a few nearly untouchable units for later on
4) Destroyers were the be-all-end-all unit in that game when combined with #3 above.
5) Conditions for a domination win were stupid and easily exploited
6) Economic system encouraged weak transportation infrastructure, which made it easier to attack other countries as it was easier to cut off their units' ability to move around and respond.
7) Every land unit becomes its own transport vehicle when put on water, making it easier to project military overseas and eliminating a lot of the planning necessary for overseas invasions or simply settling new landmasses.
8) Made the game more "accessible" which meant that they abandoned their core market of people wanting a very in-depth and involved game.

Good:
1) Terrain map using hexagons was better than any previous game with squares or diamonds.

Mixed feelings:
1) Inability to stack military units. It made for much more planning on how to place/move/coordinate your military, but made for attacks early in the game to be more difficult because units didn't have very good attack compared to city defense.

Civ headline! Hell the fark yeah!

Civ V is my favorite Civ yet, because of how streamlined and polished it is. Sure, it has its weak points (unbalanced civilization perks, zerging electronics without taking the metallurgy path for modern era defenses at 1500AD, diplomacy victories, spotty bot combat AI), but damn it, I love it.

Got a great start on a huge FFA/20-player map (small continents) last night as Catherine. Mountain, river, coast, marble, gold, stone. Science and production were through the roof by 800AD. Had half of the continent to myself with almost all the resources on it; set up six cities in no time flat. Had to constantly push away Alexander and his expansionist and warmongering policies, but he couldn't stand up to mighty Russia and her loyal friends, Genoa and Tyre. Almost lost to a science-pushing Genghis Khan, but I (thankfully) was stocked on aluminum and had just that much of an advantage in shooting rockets into space for the victory.

Awesome! I can't wait for it.

NO

Don't break the damn game to pander to snooty and whiny Civ IV players. It doesn't fit with this game's entire scheme!

As much as I love civ, I'm farking useless at it. No idea how you people require deity level to have fun on it, cos I get backstabbed, then smashed on Noble difficulty. Warlord is easy enough though.
