I saw Styx in Concord, CA back in 1996 during their Return to Paradise tour, but the bad part about it was... they didn't play anything newer than stuff from Paradise Theater, so they didn't even do Mr. Roboto. It was a bit disappointing.

What I'm surprised about is that a crowd of Texas crankhead's would like any version of Styx. I'd figure they'd be more into something like either ZZ Top or The Butthole Surfers... not some small "h" hard rock lightweights.

Saw Styx back in the 70's as a tween, when I had "I like everything on the radio" taste. Fell asleep / passed out during Tommy Shaw's sensitive acoustic number. Things changed when I saw Devo about 4 months later.

First Styx album: Paradise Theatre, followed rapidly by Equinox, Pieces of Eight, Lady, Cornerstone, Crystal Ball, the Grand Illusion. Loved.

Then did Styx I, The Serpent is Rising. Thought, ok, that is kind of sucky, much as early Journey was a bunch of psychedlic jams.

Then Kilroy, and I realized that I might not forgive that album.

Ah yes, I was at the Houston show. Uriah Heep, Triumph, Sammy Hagar, Ted Nugent, and...Styx. I never got to see them because my brother hated them and wanted to leave.

I remember that "Behind the Music" episode. IIRC Tommy Shaw was playing his guitar on a street corner for change back in the day. Now I like Tommy, and JY, but Styx wouldn't exist without DeYoung, nor would Shaw have ever been in the band without him. I've seen DeYoung without Styx, and I've seen Styx without DeYoung, and it's not even close who puts on a more enjoyable show. (DeYoung). The band should be kissing his ass for all the money he's made them instead of whining about 2 songs they didn't like (that they STILL play, although in a "dumbed down" version. And yeah, the main reason I BECAME a Styx fan is exactly what DeYoung talked about in this article; they had a different sound for different moods. CDs (albums) today sound like one long song. Styx had some diversity for different tastes. 3 different singers, great backround vocals no matter who was singing lead, etc. Ruined a good thing guys. Even if they do reunite, they shot what, about 30 years in the ass?

Dennis put out a new album a few years back with some fairly big success in Canada (Quebec especially) what has Styx done? They went into the studio with their current lineup and RE-RECORDED Pieces of Eight and The Grand Illusion, note for note, cut for cut..... talk about being washed up.

It was on the night the Wings won the cup. People were there with radios and tv's and Styx had to stop performing in the middle of Sail Away due to the crowd going nuts over the win.

Styx was my first concert as well...1978, right around the Grand Illusion tour. Free with a $3 entry fee into the Michigan State Fair.

I was 13 and had no complaints.
