I think this particular example of Santorum's pants-on-head retarded fundiederp is from a few days ago, but as far as I can see this is the first time it's gone green.

Came out with the same crap on Face the Nation this weekend. I still don't understand how it is better to make someone wait through a full pregnancy and then find out that something is horribly wrong with the baby than it is to be able to make a fully informed decision about taking a pregnancy to term.

It's like this guy is going for broke, thinks he can ride out a wave of social conservatism. Which is great, I applaud him. The pendulum was swinging from liberal to conservative pretty hard for a while there and jokers like this scumbag will, if not halt the swing, at least keep it from veering so heavily. He's bringing the full brunt of this nonsense to light and I hope he keeps it up all the way til November, I hope he goes down swinging.

The Diane Rehme show today on NPR had a pro life advocate, a pro choice advocate and a reporter (a normal panel set up on the show) and the pro choice person was hinting at this.

Great show, though. Diane knows how to interview. Too bad her voice is shot to sh*t.

Should've thrown this onto the comment:

Taipeng Rebellion:
Taipeng Rebellion (new window)

The Taiping Rebellion was a widespread civil war in southern China from 1850 to 1864, led by heterodox Christian convert Hong Xiuquan, who, having received visions, maintained that he was the younger brother of Jesus Christ,[1] against the ruling Manchu-led Qing Dynasty. About 20 million people died, mainly civilians, in one of the deadliest military conflicts in history.

I really hope that this whole War on Women thing the GOP is deciding to run with goes on for a bit. Long enough that the people in the Republican party who don't actively hate women (which I'm hoping is a significant amount) start to leave or actually manage to take some positions of power inside the party, causing them to take up some reasonable party views. I use to be pretty strongly in the "both parties are bad" camp and would focus on third parties or ignore the national elections and try and focus on local elections, but now it's more like one party is kind of bad in a few ways and the other party is super villain attempting to destroy the Earth level evil.

If Santorum wins, or if these stupid social issues are somehow the focus of the election, the election will be a bloodbath. And in the meantime, important issues like the economy, jobs, deficit, foreign policy, fixing Obamacare, etc... will be overlooked.

As Santorum noted, studies show that in the vast majority of cases where amniocentesis reveals Down syndrome, women decide on abortion.

I still don't get why this is a problem...?

I have a question for "pro-lifers" in re pre-natal screenings.

If you could tell early - or at any time, really - that an embryo had a terrible disorder (which then became a fetus with a terrible disorder, which then became a baby with a terrible disorder), yet you insist that it be carried to term in accordance with your "pro-life" views, how do you justify letting embryos with, say, Tay-Sachs Disease develop and come into the world?

FYI: Tay-Sachs is a degenerative disorder that systematically destroys all physical and cognitive abilities. Most afflicted die before their fourth birthday. Most of the preceding time was "lived" with respirators, feeding tubes (having lost the ability to swallow or breathe). Sufferers are often doped into a coma to avoid the excruciating pain of their condition.

Very, very few live beyond four years, and most of those years are spent heavily drugged and on life-support.

If you could tell, from pre-natal screening, that your child-to-be was affected with T-S and would live a short life of constant pain, then die before he was four, would it be moral to carry that fetus to term?

Ever notice how pro-life politicians tend to have kids that are more genetically screwed up? I mean they seem to have an umbalance of birth disorders when compared to the other side.

/I hate the life for the sake of life argument.

I agree with Rick Santorum. Women should never get prenatal testing to identify birth defects. They should just presume that the fetus has a birth defect and abort it. It worked in Iraq, so it's gotta work in uteruses.

I'm on the verge of just coughing up 20 bucks to his campaign every time one of these pig-ignorant quotes pops up. I think if I plan it right, hit up Costco for a case of multi-vitamins and commit myself, I can live on Ramen until the election.

Bowls of water, salt and paste have kept many a college student alive, they'll probably work for me.

Jesus, Rick. Just because your family was willing to bring a disabled child into the world, with the resulting costs of care, don't force your morality on the rest of us.
