People still read newspapers? Day old news is so exciting! The only thing better is week old news if you buy Time or Newsweek.

You guys laugh, but with these extreme hoarders, this has become a serious problem. It's gotten to the point where on Sundays, someone has to ask my clerk for a newspaper and pay for it right then and there. Otherwise, they'll steal all the coupons out of it.

Good work, but in a lot of places it is the newspaper employee that takes the hit not the publisher. A guy I know that used to do that work would stake out his boxes, then explain to the thief that he just stole from a regular hard-working guy.

You'd think that by now newspapers would have come up with a vending machine that doesn't rely on the honor system in a dishonorable society.

does it really say on those old newspaper vending thingys that you can only take one? I thought the payment grants you permission to open the box, and once it's open, you take what you want.

Next week's police blotter will include:
INSURANCE FRAUD, HOLDENS ARBOR RUN
: A local car insurance company pressed fraud charges against the owner of a 2005 Toyota 4Runner for falsely claiming that $1655 in cash had been taken from their unlocked vehicle.

It's the principle of the thing.
Sadly, there are too many sociopaths out there that will take advantage of the system any way possible, thus screwing things up for the rest of us.

When I was traveling in Asia I saw a couple of different designs that would only allow you to take one at a time. I don't know why our newspaper vending tech got stuck somewhere in the 1950s.

They still rely on the honor system because it doesn't make sense to take more than one newspaper. They are all identical, in small quantities, and have very little value. They are only good for about 24 hours and once you've read one there is no need to read to read the others. It is a waste of time to try to sell them for a profit. If you can manage to make a profit, it will be too small to justify the effort.

In the back corner of the lot, far away from all the other cars. I figure if someone breaks into my car, I'll donate part of the $9000 in cash back to the police if they recover it. They can keep the watch and gift card too.
