Freedom of Speech is a bad thing when it's used to support policies with which I do not agree.

What an aberration of democracy when some people have more "free speech" than others based on the size of their wallets.

Apparently. I've been arguing this forever and keep getting attacked for it. And I'm a Democrat! I'm just in favor of free speech, even if rich people are the ones speaking (and using their money to pay for it).

I merely think independent groups should have the free speech rights to say whatever they want to say about elections.

It's not like there haven't been independent groups supporting Democrats before. Do the words Moveon.org ring any bells?

Or both groups are trying to look out for their own tax bracket as an overhead cost to be mitigated. Except of course the all day sucker gungadins for the rich or in other words middle class and poor republicans.

They too should have free speech rights to scream in terror as Godzilla stomps around the city.

How so?

/free speech =/= having someone broadcast your views free of charge
//free speech =/= a guaranteed audience

Tell us, in your absolute view that any restriction is censorship, should there be anything to stop foreign nationals or corporations form funding political efforts in the United States? Would you have any problem with the Government of the Peoples Republic of China funding a SuperPac running ads supporting the candidate of their choice?

A company is merely an organization owned by one or more people. I frankly don't see much difference between a billionaire spending his personal money to support a candidate and a corporation doing the same.

As for foreign contrabutions, that is more disturbing, but the first amendment says nothing about only citizens having free speech rights. The constitution applies both to citizens and to non-citizens alike.

Ultimately, it is up to the Supreme Court to decide on what restrictions can pass constitutional scrutiny. Maybe restrictions on things like foreign contrabutitions can pass the "Strict Scrutiny" test.

And the beauty part is that people can inherit a lot more free speech than others.

I always thought the Founders were against aristocracy, but the Supreme Court, in It's Supreme Wisdom, has decided that the Founders intended an aristocracy after all.

Letting rich Americans and corporations pay anything to broadcast their message automatically means that evil foreign powers are influencing them, unlike the holier than jesus poor who never take money from evil foreigners.
