In the pack driving style at Daytona, a random fan plucked from the concession stand lineup and strapped into a start-and-park team's rental car has a chance of winning. Someone with the level of skill that Danica has can make a run for it.

Anyone can win at Daytona if thing work out at the end. Attrition can reduce the pool of those available to win and if you put in the right situation, it can happen. Derrick Cope has won at Daytona so really, anyone can do it.

Under last year's rules I would say sure she does. But with the new package dictating more pack racing and this being her first cup race I would say no. I do beieve she is a capable driver and could develop into a winner in the cup series but it will be awhile. Emphasis on COULD.

Her best lap was only a half second off the pace in practice 1 which was middle of the pack. She has as good a chance as any other lucky schlub that stays out of trouble and is near the front with a few laps to go.

And really, given how more sparks flew at the Bud Shootout than a Taylor Swift concert, there are going to be a whole lot of DNF's and they're not going to be pretty ones, and they're going to scoop up a lot of the contenders. She dodges those, she's got as much of a shot as anyone. That's going to be the most important skill: getting the hell out of the way when some other driver goes squirrly.

Not really. Ward had a good car, and Bayne had the best car. The last true surprise at the 500 was Cope over 2 decades ago, and that was only brought about by several flukes happening one after the other at the perfect time. That race was a true fluke, but the last 22 500 winners have all been not-so-surprising.

This. Hell, last year we had a rookie in his second career start, and his first start at Daytona, stun the field. In 2002, Ward Burton came out of nowhere and won during a shootout at the end of the race.

It's a plate race. They are inevitably crap shoots. Is it likely? No. But is it possible? Yes.

And finally, THIS. The double standard being set here is just unbelievable. If she was a male driver doing "NASCAR hunk" ads, not one person would think twice about(in the vast majority of cases). But she's a women, so automatically because she's making some money off her image, she can't be taken seriously.

I was talking about Daytona the track, not just the 500. I'd rate Jamie McMurray as way way way more talented than either Ragan or Patrick. The jury is still out on Bayne.

I think he was referring to the last two Daytona races, not just the last two 500's. Bayne won the 500 last year, Ragan won the July race.
