Not a single reloading setup. Thought for sure there'd be one.

I don't understand subby's point.

Artist went around taking photos of garages.
Article headline says not all garages have vehicles.
Article shows photos of garages, not all of them have vehicles.

Article headline seems reasonable to me; subby's headline does not.

/did I miss something?

I'd like to see Barney's garage, it would be interesting in a potty sort of way.

Wait wait wait...you mean all of the Dillon ads with hot women standing next to a progressive press aren't of real people??

A cross for every casualty of the war on terror thus far. Very sobering.

Transportation doesn't always have to equate to cars, derpmitter.

In other news, the hot women posing in bikinis and red 4" heels on the car hoods on the covers of Low Rider and Hot Rod magazine are usually posed to cover the stretch marks from their teenage pregnancies.

You're welcome.

"Bob has a 5,000-square-foot garage where he works on German cars and at weekends uses the space to enjoy his hobby of World War II reenactment"

That has got to be the world's biggest garage or the tiniest reenactment in the world.

Seeing as how the first six were motorcycles (goes into 'car' category; tough), cars, car parts, cars, a car, and toy cars, I'd agree with subby and just point and laugh at you, tool.

yeah yeah garages.

But the article wasn't a slideshow. That's worthy of a newsflash.

People, people, let's stop arguing among each other and agree that we're all stupidheads for clicking on a Daily Mail link and expecting something interesting.

Well, except for me, I didn't click on it, I'm not THAT retarded. But let's all agree that you're all drooling spastoids.

If anyone wants to see some REAL nice garages, I would highly recommend Garage Journal (new window). This is a group of people who are solely dedicated to building and improving their garages. So much so that they have a specialized forum. Check out the Bunker garage for some really amazing pictures (the owner's city council told him he couldn't build upwards due to zoning restrictions, so he built downwards).

does anyone park their daily drivers in their garage? we're about to buy our first house. it has a 2 car garage. i have sworn for years that my garage will be for parking cars that we drive, not for storage, not for hobbies, but to keep my scion and my wife's ford from the outdoor elements

Step 1) Add a B&W or Sepia Tone
Step 2) Instant "creative type'

Dont even need photoshop anymore!

SniperJoe: I would highly recommend Garage Journal (new window).

I hate you. It's 4:25 in the morning and I am now compelled to rush out into my catastrophe of a garage to go try to redeem my honor as a man. Sleep be damned. Neighbors be damned. I'm building something.

2012-02-22 07:26:33 AM
Wow. Most of those would qualify as backyard workshops from their apparent size. Two are obviously warehouses, not garages.

When I had a two car garage I could fit one car in there. I had a snowblower, lawnmower, 2 cords of wood, bicycles, and two sets of winter tires taking up the rest of the space, so the other car lived in the driveway.

With a one car garage there's no hope, but with a two you can fit one.

My neighbours always managed to get two cars in theirs...showoffs.

When my wife I bought our current house, one thing we insisted on having was a two car garage. Our previous house had a one car garage and neither of us used it. Two years ago we moved had to store furniture from my wife's grandmother's house and I kept my car outside for the entire winter. I had forgotten what a pain in the ass that is. Snow, frost, rain, heat - it all sucks. As soon as spring rolled around, I sold whatever I could and donated the rest and got my car back in there. My neighbor across the street keeps his motorcycle in the garage and has a nicely painted floor and crown molding. He has a couch and a TV in there. If it's not below freezing, that's where he spends his time.

These are all old dudes. In a few year, they'll die and their "collections" will end up in a dumpster. WTF is with the dude that has 800 decorative toilet seats? Guy has OCD, and his poor kids and grandkids must hate having a grandpa that collects shiatter lids.

A British photographer traveled to America to see how people use garages.

Do they not have garages in Britain?

2012-02-22 08:08:14 AM
In the garage smoke-shop/office right now. Maybe a 6x12 enclosed room in the back of the garage. Milk-house heater takes care of it during the winter in MN, perfect with just a fan in the summer. Has tools, a laptop, tv, and most importantly, a good set of PA monitors to really crank tunes on.

Room for one car still, and lots and lots of storage.

Crammed with cars: Lynn has a garage filled with 10 Shelby Cobras, Cobra memorabilia and with three hot rods and a dragster

this isn't a residential garage attached to a house. he has 14 vehicles in his garage.

First: Are you saying that if you just bought a new motorcycle, you would go to work and say to your buddies, "Hey, come look at my new car!"?

Second: If all 16 pictures were of garages with cars in them, the subby would have a point. But, if 1 picture did not have a car in it while 15 others did, then the statement that not all of the garages contain cars would be 100% accurate.

Headline: "Female photographer travels America to peer inside a truly masculine domain... that doesn't always involve cars"
Article: Pictures from garages, about 50% of which do not involve cars, car parts, cars, or toy cars.

Conclusion: 50% ≠ "always", therefore subby's headline is stupid, and so are you.

Agreed. Quite a number of them I assumed were barns or similar structures.

Regardless, I have garage envy now. Maybe I should rewire my barn and do something with it.

I haven't looked in a couple days, but there are none of those kinds of things in my garage. So, no.

My rule for owning a home - the garage/shop area has to be at least 50% of the size of the home.

/current work area, nearly 75% the size of the house.

I don't care if there were cars in the pictures. But I do care that the pictures were black and white without decent lighting and as much contrast as she could come up with.

If you're going to do this for a living, you need to learn some basic photographic skills.
