Now I know that Weston-super-Nightmare is twinned with Hildesheim in Germany

I know some of that is in English, but I'll be damned if I can make any sense out of it.

As stupid as the brouhaha over that is, even stupider is people calling for the 'retirement' of the phrase (new window).

Given that, I suggest we start making every-day terms into horribly offensive slang, see if we can't obliterate the language entirely.

Wait, so now all something has to do is sort of RESEMBLE a symbol of a long defeated regime, and everyone goes all Chinese fire drill to spend money and rip up flower beds? Im thinking if you are living in fear of flower beds, perhaps you should get a grip.

We could start out by using the word "slur." It already sounds vulgar, as in, "You stupid slur," or "I bet your daddy was a real slur-picker" or "Who raised you? A buncha slurs?"

Then we could move onto more sophisticated phrases, like "You're a real cashier's scanner, you know that?"

It's the farking hipsters and their farking stickers that get me. They can't go anywhere without putting a sticker there for all to see. It's incredibly annoying.

to be fair, I can identify at least 4 problems that would have sent the nazi graphic designers into conniption fits. Although I forget what the 4th was, so 3 problems.

A brouhaha over a pun that incorporates a racial slur is completely appropriate.

If ESPN ran a story about a Jewish para sailor and the article was called 'Flying Kikes' could you imagine the uproar? How about a story about the Nigerian swimming team getting a bronze in the Olympics, and the headline is 'Nigers can't swim'?

The problem is, Asians are still in the 'so completely dismissed and marginalized that no one even objects when we use racial slurs against them' stage of minority discrimination. The fact that the US is so completely shocked that a Chinese guy can even play basketball competitively is a testament to just how dismissed they are in American culture.

Allow me to explain. The city, Weston-super-Mare, is nicknamed Weston-super-Nightmare by locals. And cities around the world reach out to other cities to be "twinned" or "sistered"- mainly like a cultural exchange and friendship. For example, my city, Austin, Texas is twinned with Koblenz, Germany (link^
