Cheap beer. I said use the Cheap Beer Defence. Some Farkers just don't read very well.

The Harris County District Attorney's office refuses to charge him in the hit-and-run incident, despite his allegedly causing $1,500 in damage to the car owned by the bar's bouncer, who witnessed the entire incident.

I wonder why. Because he used to be on council? Or what?

And this has to be the worst defense I've ever seen. Seriously. Like there aren't other bars, probably with cheaper beer. Or better beer. (Gay bars are notorious for overcharging for bad drinks.) I can;t wait until the sexting scandal with his lover makes the papers. And we all know, it's only a matter of time.

My first time in San Francisco visiting my brother was like that. I was walking all over the city, it was pretty warm, it was right there, I figured fark it, I'm going to get a beer.

The dudes inside were friendly enough, but the guys sitting at the bar were very startled when it came out that I was 100% straight. A guy sat down next to me, started chatting me up, and it became obvious pretty quick that I played for the other team. There was a record needle coming off the record sort of moment, and then an older black dude asked, after I explained that I just wanted a cold beer, "Son... didn't you see all them colored flags hanging up outside? You do know what they mean, right?"

It kind of caught me off guard, so I replied, "Yeah, I saw them. Do they mean you don't serve beer to straight dudes in here or something?" Everyone agreed that the flags didn't in fact mean that a random straight dude couldn't enter their bar and drink a beer, and although it was a somewhat rare occurrence, it was perfectly acceptable.

So then me and the guy opposite the older fellow played a couple games of pool after which I resumed my trek better hydrated than when I began, with no hanky-panky involved in the interim.

/yes, yes, very csb...

Do they even serve beer to homosexuals?

And the beer at that particular bar was noted for it's good head? Makes perfect sense.

There are a number of reasons your story is complete bullshiat but the most prominent one is that you are requiring us to believe that all these gay dudes couldn't spot you were straight the split second you sat down.

I can't tell you how many "100% straight" guys I've met at the gay bar and within 10 minutes I'm fondling him under the table and we end up blowing each other in the parking lot.

That's true. My friend used to be a bartender at a gay bar, so I often stopped by for a free beer or two, or eight. My gaydar is pretty good, but it's no match for those guys' straight-dar.

No, every word is 100% true. I don't know if they were just being polite or not, but the one guy essentially was asking what I was doing there when he came over to talk. Maybe he thought I was curious or something. Turns out I just didn't care. I didn't think it was weird or whatever (though in retrospect I think they did). It was hot afternoon, they sold beer, place was not very crowded, seemed quiet, I'd go in and get something to drink.

I had a great time. My brother was going to college in the city and I had afternoons to kill three days a week, so I decided to go see the city by walking around it. That particular day I wanted a beer, and the place next to me happened to be a gay bar (though more like a lounge; like with a bar on the right, some high tables/stools in the middle part and a bank of pool tables on the left), and I went in. It's really no more complicated than that.

Though now that I think back on it, it seems kind of sad that it would be so unusual for a straight guy to walk into a gay bar -- without it being a stunt or prank or something. Like there's some unseen (and maybe self-imposed?) segregation at work. It's like hearing someone say "Yeah we can't go there, it's only Chinese there". So? They sell food? You hungry for food? Then go in and get dim sum or whatever.

vernonFL: I can't tell you how many "100% straight" guys I've met at the gay bar and within 10 minutes I'm fondling him under the table and we end up blowing each other in the parking lot.

Never had a gay experience in my life, and no urge to speak of. Sometimes a beer is just a beer. They did seem to think it was odd at first, but I ended up staying a while, so they all pretty much ignored me after a bit and we just played pool and had a couple rounds.

I think the otherwise "straight" guys who set out to go find a gay bar are looking for something, yes. I was just looking for a beer.

2012-02-22 02:47:46 AM
Sure, he's not gay. He just fled he scene because he thought it might look bad. Though there's no reason anyone should think it might look bad, 'cause he was just a dude goin out for a beer at just a regular bar, NTTAWWT, etc etc.

LULZ

"I went into a bar," he told his audience today. "There were gay people inside. You know why I went in to a bar? Let me confess. Because there was cold beer waiting inside. Is that a crime? The fact that I'm not afraid of the fact that some of the people inside may be gay makes it a bad thing? Would it have been better if I was at a strip club, or a Hooters? Well if it would then maybe you should now know, I don't hate gays. I don't fear gays. I don't need to bash gays."

Berry, who's famous for his racist and anti-Muslim rants, called Houston's KPRC-TV a "fourth-place station" and threatened retaliation. "You will not smear my name and me go down without a fight."

He also said his presence at the gay bar, which was staging a drag show at the time of his 11 p.m. visit, was not hypocritical, because he's not a homophobe.

I walked into a bar one day to get a beer. As I walked in I noticed "Born to be Wild" blaring on the jukebox and everyone decked out in leather (women and men) and relaized that I had walked into a biker bar. I sat down and drank a pither of beer even though I was decked out in jeans, flanel shirt and cowboy boots. That didnt make me a biker. I think you actually have to ride a bike to be a biker and to be gay you have to ride...well....

...that is all...

However, not charging the guy for a hit and run is bullshiat.

Strangely relevant (new window).

The dude's probably gay, and who really cares, but really this is potentially a win-win situation.

Either the ardent homophobes in his listening audience a) don't believe him and destroy whatever credibility he has, or b) believe that the homosexual community isn't so bad if their magic talking box buddy goes to gay bars for ice cold manly-in-a-straight-way beer and find a different segment of the population to demonize (I'm hoping they go after masturbators next since life begins at the tip of a man's penis).

Of course, there's a c), d), and e) here too revolving around a lot of "LALALALA I'M NOT LISTENING" or conspiracy theories, but I'm an optimist.

Even if getting some cock was the very last thing on this guy's mind..WTF was he thinking? If I were a right wing radio host, a gay bar would be about the last place I'd go for a beer just on the offhand chance someone would recognize me. Even if it's completely innocent, your conservative fanbase is going to go "Hmmm, I wonder..." And that couldn't possibly have been the only bar open. So I'm going to go with "He's either a complete idiot or (more likely, IMHO) he's gayer than 8 guys blowing 9 guys".

So, I used to live in St. Paul. I'm white, but I lived in a Hmong area. In order to get there from downtown, you had to go through a 'bad' part of town (St, Paul doesn't have any really bad parts of town).

So one day I missed the bus, and I was walking home at 2:00AM. Three black people were standing on a porch. One of them asked where I was going. After I told him I was going home, he said that was a real good idea.

He wasn't being bigoted, or close-minded. He knew who tended to pass through there, and knew I didn't belong. And people (especially white people) who went there at 2:00AM tended to be looking for drugs, or whores, or trouble, and he didn't want that.

There's nothing wrong with assuming that when somebody goes into a neighborhood or bar where they stand out from the usual crowd that they're curious, or lost, or about to cause trouble. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I'm surprised you would read that into the story.

Unless you were trolling, of course.

2012-02-22 06:04:28 AM
The fact that this fellow was in a gay bay is only a distraction to the real issue. Of course this guy wants to have the discussion centered on why he was having a beer there. Being in a gay bar has no bearing on this guy's sexuality and more importantly has no bearing on whether he is guilty of the crime. The only thing that really matters is that he was involved in a hit and run.
/Although being a right-wing radio host is pretty queer; I guess he only does that for the beer too.
