Yup, thought so.

Ever considered why evil villains never make their lairs in Australia? Would make complete sense.

You can't be an evil supervillain IF YOU'RE DEAD.

As Jackson Scott crouched in the dark at a remote Tasmanian farm, a highly venomous tiger snake bit his testicle....

Only last week.

Since the Australian continent was settled about 125,000 to 50,000 years ago by the indigenous Australians there has been enough time for snakes and sea critters to have evolved the most nasty venoms in the world to avoid being eaten by the immigrants. If the settlers had learned agriculture first it may not have turned out this way..

The most poisonous creatures in Australia are the people. One lunged at me once and sank its teeth in, putting me in the hospital for a week. Since it had tasted human flesh it unfortunately had to be put down.

Leave Australians in the wild where they belong.

The first place that sprang to mind was luggage, and then Australia, so I'll say that it was discovered in the suitcase of a tourist from Australia.

And serve those TSA bastards right. If I had to fly I'd stick venomous snakes up me bum.

It would be more fun any way than actually flying.

Freshwater crocs are pretty harmless. I don't think they've ever killed a human being. They are somewhat smaller than salties (get up to about 2 meters at the most), and they're quite timid. I've swum with freshies.

Not entirely shocked to find new snakies of DOOM in Australia. The Australian Broadcasting Co. link kind of gave it away, and everyone knows that Australia is a Death Continent where the actual advertising slogan is Come To Australia--You Might Accidentally Get Killed and one of the most beloved "old country" hits involves the heartwarming tale of an Aussie cowboy who gets bitten on the bum by the local black widow species and ends up hospitalised--an Oz-black-widow which is the least envenomating "medically significant" spider in that continent; it is literally one of the very few Real Life places to have inspired a land in a Final Fantasy game where the adamantoises can kill you by farting in your general direction.

The shocker is more that it's a new species of sea-snake off the coast of Queensland, rather than Yet Another Taipan Relative newly discovered in someone's garage in a suburban home in Queensland.

More's the pity, alas; He What Has Knowledge knows that the single most venomous creature in all of Australia also resides in Queensland, and is termed the Hillsong Church Jesus Camper; said creature (a species that was originally imported from Jesus Camper stocks in the southeastern United States) is, like most non-native species in Australia allowed to go feral, unfortunately attempting to turn Queensland into the Australian equivalent of Alberta, if not Texas or Colorado Springs.

/can at least state that Australians ARE at least clueful that Jesus Campers as a set do tend to go dangerously coercive
//in a way, still wishes mihirungs were still around--alas, it would seem indigenous Australians thought ginormous farking geese the size of chocobos were pretty damn yummy

Because it would be so terrifying that you would immediately die from the shock. That's how dangerous it is. :P
