Yep. As soon as I heard about the "Barry White demon" and the "Olivia Newton-John angel", the only thing I could think of is that the guy was trying too hard to sell the insanity plea. He was having an affair with the victim's wife and he wanted him out of the picture. It's also quite possible that the victim's wife was involved as well, but they don't seem to be prosecuting her.

If he didn't know shooting the other guy was wrong, why did he go out of his way to create an alibi and then run away from the scene of the crime in a rented van?
