FTA:
In that film, as you'll recall, people interact in a reassuringly cluttered but virtual reality. Actual reality is barren. No stuff at all. Nothing physical to establish that one person is different from another. It's a horror story in which humanity has abandoned all of what makes us human.

Know how I know you didn't watch the movie?

God damn it, I was hoping all those years of video game training would count for something.

I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shiat we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

/more like Fight Club IMHO...

"... And in the bloodlit dark behind his eyes, silver phosphenes boiling in from the edge of space, hypnagogic images like film compiled from random frames. Symbold, figures, faces, a blurred, fragmented mandala of visual information. A gray disk , the Color of Chiba Sky. Disk beginning to rotate, faster, becoming a sphere of paler gray. Expanding -

And flowed and flowered for him, fluid neon origami trick, the unfolding his distanceless home, his country, transparent 3D chessboard estending to infinity. Inner eye opening to the stepped scarlet pyramid of the Eastern Seaboard Fission Authority burning beyond the green cubes of mitsubishi Bank of America, and High and very far away he saw the spiral arms of militarty systems, forever beyond his reach.

And somehwere he was laughing, i a white-painted loft, distant fingers caressing the deck, tears of release streaking his face. "

No, you just get to go to a big-ass rave in an underground cavern while someone else farks Carrie Anne Moss.

Turning into, no, been there for some time. Most people believe what they see in the media to be true. None of the special effects just lies and mind control. Given how mentally lazy humans are, it's the best thing for us.

What Should Have Happened:

Old Guy with TVs: "You are the sum of a tangent of a co-sign of a hanging exponent trailing integer difference from a log Sum."

Neo: "WTF?"

*Neo chokes Old Guy to death*

Plus, Case got a taste of Molly, the Steppin' Razor... not bad for a Cowboy with toxin sacs in his system.

There IS one major aspect of our lives which has been caught in a global computer matrix which has not been the case for most of its' long history... Money.

///Think about what this means...

Cybernetic: No, you just get to go to a big-ass rave in an underground cavern while someone else farks Carrie Anne Moss.

There was a lot of implied farking going on in that rave scene, so I'm okay with this.

Chicken Matrix

NFITFA: Originally we simulated a world where they could run free in green pastures full of food. This made them happy, but unfortunately a little too happy. They became suspicious. So in later versions of the system we simulated them living in tiny cages, piled on top one another by the thousands and being fed from a trough...

'The Matrix' was right on one account, 1999 WAS the pinnacle of our society.

The whole world started circling the shiatter once Dubya was given the election by the Supremes.

We are never getting back there.
