I agreed with George Clooney who said that people who get plastic surgery just end up looking "wrong". Which is ironic in retrospect, since Clooney has admitted since then that he himself has had plastic surgery.
Aging sucks, but I'd rather look old than weird.

So why is it that everyone I've ever seen that has had plastic surgery come out of it looking like a freak?

FTA:
For patients in the first group, who had facelifts only, perceived age fell 5.7 years; in the facelift and eyelid group, it fell 7.5 years and in the group that also had forehead lifts it fell 8.4 years.
I get similar results whenever I wear a t-shirt with a comic book character on it.

Self-selection. I have seen (or been convinced of) plastic surgery that was very subtle and well done. Obviously it's expensive, but that doesn't explain why people with gobs of cash don't get it done properly. I guess it's that "subtle" part that eludes them.

I've always wondered if the plastic surgeons who just treat birth defects and accident victims want to biatch slap the surgeons who only work on breast embiggening and botox. And I just caught an episode of My Stange Addiction where a woman has had 22 breast surgeries. She's a triple K. Shouldn't there be some mental health screening for plastic surgery?
\Side note, this post took forever to type because of my cats walking on the keyboard. Does anyone know if the cat proof software works?

Mama always told me, "if you can't be a good example, be an excellent warning." I think the people who go overboard are a warning to the rest of us. Or maybe, they are actually helping doctors hone the skills needed to fix accident or fire victims. Like the bad boob jobs that teach doctors what not to do after full mastectomies.

I think a big part of the problem is people who get it done then think the results are repeatable. They're 40, they get work done that makes them look early 30s and not freakish. Fast forward 5 years, and they now look close to 40 again. So they go back and want the same thing done again, expecting the same result. Maybe it still works the second time, but it only makes them look 2-3 years younger. Either they'll be unsatisfied and go for more work immediately, or maybe they wait the 2-3 years and go again. Either way, they end up in an endless cycle that ends up with them looking like they're permanently skydiving. The type of person who's willing to do something life threatening to look younger (even minor surgeries have a chance of infections that could be serious) generally aren't the type of person who's going to be satisfied with turning back the clock just once.

My sister had a nose job several years back and that looks normal (she had broken her nose as a kid and it had a crook in it). But I see women every day who have had facelifts, Botox and collagen lip injections, etc and they do not look normal. They don't really look younger, either. Rather, they look like they have the wrong face on an aging body. It's creepy.

Probably because the ones that have good work done you don't notice.

If people have had good plastic surgery, you can't tell they've had plastic surgery, so judging plastic surgery as a whole based on the type of anecdotal evidence given in this thread exhibits attentional bias / availability heuristic.
That said, plastic surgery makes monsters.

Yeah, if only there were some sort of code doctors were held ethically and professionally accountable to. Maybe some sort of oath they had to take. You know, one that would preclude them from taking knives to people unnecessarily or deliberately injecting them with a nerve toxin.

At some point, folks will realize that stabbing yourself in the forehead with a syringe full of a strain of botulism wasn't the brightest move.
Sort of how it was eventually deemed a bad idea to slather your face with lead and mercury to look pretty.
But yeah, keep struggling against the aging process... you're failing miserably, but making someone else rich in the the meantime.

They make you look better (if done right, they can also make you in to a freak) for the short term.
Old people who have had it done look . . . unnatural.
Natural aging may not be sexy but at least it isn't repellent.

I never understand why women fall for the surgeon who says they need to thin the nose and then give it an upturned tip, all of those look like shiat. If a doctor says that's what looks good on you then you should run because they have no clue what's is attractive.

Plastic surgery is one part art, one part medicine. Some plastic surgeons will put the same nose on every patient that comes in for a nose job. That is not the surgeon you want to see. You want to see the surgeon who does a nose that fits your face. When I had mine done, I didn't want the cookie cutter nose, I wanted my nose back, plus the deviated septum fixed. The surgeon did a great job. He fixed the crack and bump from the break, straightened the septum and refined the tip.
I consulted with another surgeon first. The first surgeon I consulted with is known as the one that all the local celebrities go to for work. His portfolio was full of the same nose on every face. It was the stereotypical nose job nose.

LOL, close. I would have sued if I ended up like that. My husband was freaked out about it coming out "wrong". I can't say I blame him. You never notice good plastic surgery.

That looks more like a cocaine-ravaged nose than plastic surgery. (At least I HOPE no one asked to have that done to them on purpose...)
I used to enjoy the
