That's where, in late summer of that year, Greg Favors, an art and furniture dealer, came upon eight cracked but still handsome panels in a plywood bin. Mr. Favors did not know what they were or who had created them, but he thought them "amazing and cool," he said. He paid $164.63, including tax.
Now that's the sort of return on investment I'm looking for.
Oh, then he pussed out and took a lower amount because someone said "This shouldn't have ever been sold."
/Best ROI I've had was $3500 on a fifty cent book.

Great headline, interesting story. Makes you wonder how many other mislabeled items are in storage limbo somewhere.

It's very annoying when people take something that has nothing to do with race (like this case of institutional incompetence) and try to turn it into racist flame bait. People like the author of that article are the real racists that cause division, playing the race card when race doesn't have a damn thing to do with things.

it's interesting to see what statues allowed the sale of this. It's a relief that the people who were finally able to carve out a deal wood display such a huge treasure.

Yeah, it's not like artists ever had a hard time in the USA because of the nation's concepts of race, and it's not like American art was ever separated by some kind of color bar. And even if it was, that was a long time ago, and there is no chance that racism would be apparent in American culture nowadays.

Hey, people find Pollock's works in the trash occasionally. You don't hear anyone complaining about how that never happens to sober artists.
