bark_atda_moon: I know it is only a small segment of a larger Halloween episode, but Citizen Kang gets my vote!
I also loved the Toaster time machine.

\\Should have voted for Kodos

With you 100% (as evidenced by my post above).

Sorry, I'm late. Stop having fun, guys. The show was going downhill after Last Exit to Springfield, they should have killed it after Season 3, and so forth.

Did someone mention Space Coyote (new window)?

1. Bart of Darkness. "Is it St. Swithin's day already?"

2. Flying Hellfish. "I'll thank you to stop pinching my Botticelli"

Both have a great story and clever writing. A lot of classic episodes in the first 8 or so seasons. Still watch it to make sure I don't miss out anything. Episode 499 was one of the better ones in recent years.

2012-02-21 12:04:32 AM
I'm shocked to learn that no one thinks an episode from the last ten years is one of the best.

/is there a risk the track could bend?

2012-02-21 12:04:35 AM
No one liked the 138th Episode Spectacular? Not my fave, but still.

Also, Bart the General (I think it's Episode 2) is underrated. Watch that again - a total Bart episode, dealing with real-world issues for kids (I was 8 when the show started), and in a total Simpsons way.

Another vote for Monorail, Scorpio (used to work with a guy we called Hank Scorpio because the resemblance was uncanny), the first...9 Halloween episodes (from The Raven to 3D Homer), and every damned line from the vegetarian episode.

2012-02-21 12:09:54 AM
I will admit that the newer episodes are not nearly as good as the first 8-10 seasons. But they are still better than 99% of the dribble that's put on TV now.

This was a great episode.

Since they switched to high def, they have been experimenting a lot more, and some of the experiments are paying off.

Though, man that fourth season was great. As evident by the many suggestions from it.

"dental plan" and Marge Versus the Monorail are probably two of my favorites, with Homer at Bat right behind them.

2012-02-21 12:36:00 AM
"Marge! Marge! The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me!" (Evil Krusty doll dunks Homer's head into dog's water bowl) "Eww, dog water!"

Also from the same vignette:

"But beware, that doll holds a terrible curse."
"That's bad."
"But it comes with a free frogurt!"
"That's good!"
"The frogurt is also cursed."
"That's bad."
"But you get your choice of topping!"
"That's good!"
"The toppings contain potassium benzoate."
"..."
"That's bad."
"Can I go now?"

And one more for good measure:

"You think your dirty socks can stop me? Well they are making me dizzy..."

High in my top ten, and certainly my top guest star episode:

Cecil Terwilliger: "Now make yourself at home. Perhaps a glass of Bordeaux? I have the '82 Chateau Latour and a rather indifferent Rausan-Segla."
Sideshow Bob: "I've been in prison, Cecil. I'll be happy just as long as it doesn't taste like orange drink fermented under a radiator."
Cecil Terwilliger: "That would be the Latour, then."

and

Sideshow Bob: "You do know I... used to have a... [clears throat] problem... with trying to kill people?"
Cecil Terwilliger: "Goodness, I had no idea! For you see, I have been on Mars for the last decade, in a cave, with my eyes shut and my fingers in my ears."
Sideshow Bob: "Touche, Cecil."

I was wondering when someone was going to mention Homer vs the 18th amendment, dammit!

Dateline: Springfield. The elusive beer baron continues to thumb his nose at the authorities.  Swaggering about in a garish new hat, he seemed to say, 'Look at me, Rex Banner!  I have a new hat!'

I scrolled down the threat incredulous that no one had mentioned Bart vs. Australia, which is my favorite episode, too. There are SO many good moments, but the one scene that kills me the most every time is near the beginning when Bart doesn't believe Lisa about the hemispheres and starts calling all the different countries in the Southern Hemisphere.

"Please to repeat, and I will translate for El Presidente."
"Which way does the water go in your toilet?"
"He says the tide is turning! The rebels will soon take the capital! We must flee! (jumps out window)"

Followed by, of course:
Homer: "Burkino Faso? Disputed Zone? Who called all these weird places?"
Homer's Brain: "Quiet, you fool, it might have been you."
Homer: "No, I'm gonna ask Marge about this."
Homer's Brain: "No! Why embarrass us both? Just write a check and I'll release some more endorphins."
(writes check)
Homer: "Ahhhhh..."

If you want a great episode from the last 10 years (they are out there, believe it or not), then "Trilogy of Error" will fit the bill.

/I really like the vest.

Way WAY WAY too late.

born_yesterday: Some men hunt for sport
Others hunt for food...
the only thing I'm hunting for....
is an outfit that looks gooood....

(TAKE IT MADBASSIST!!!)

See my vest, see my vest,
Made from real gorilla chest,
Feel this sweater, there's no better
Than authentic Irish setter.

See this hat, 'twas my cat,
My evening wear - vampire bat,
These white slippers are albino
African endangered rhino.

Grizzly bear underwear,
Turtles' necks, I've got my share,
Beret of poodle, on my noodle
It shall rest.

Try my red robin suit,
It comes one breast or two,
See my vest, see my vest,
See my vest.

Like my loafers? Former gophers -
It was that or skin my chauffeurs,
But a greyhound fur tuxedo
Would be best,

So let's prepare these dogs,

Maid:
Kill two for matching clogs.

Mr. Burns:
See my vest, see my vest,
Oh please, won't you see my vest!

I really like the vest.

Smithers:
I gathered that.

Lisa:
(gasps) He's gonna make a tuxedo out of our puppies!

(Bart hums the song Mr. Burns just sang)

Lisa:
BART!

Bart:
Sorry. You gotta admit, it's catchy.

[Later, as Gus tends his swine]
Gus: That's a bloody outrage, it is! I want to take this all the way to the Prime Minister.

Gus: Hey! Mr. Prime Minister! Andy!
Prime Minister Andy: [floating naked on an inner tube with a beer] Eh, mates! What's the good word?
