Cops whine when you suggest that. Apparently, citizens hold cops to unrealistic standards like "make sure the thing the kid in front of you is holding is a gun, not a garden hose, before you and the three officers with you fire 45 rounds into him." It's unfair to leave too much control to citizens who've never walked a beat.

never ever question a police officer. they are here to help and protect us. if the police man is hitting you, it must be because you are bad, so just stand there and take it. the police are the only thing between us, and anarchy, so just do as they say, and everything will be alright.

CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT PROCESS in SEATTLE

Civilian oversight in Seattle has three parts.

The Office of Professional Accountability is directed by a civilian who oversees the experienced detective sergeants who investigate complaints of misconduct and related issues of police practices.

The OPA Auditor has independent authority to review all cases.

The seven-member civilian OPA Review Board conducts community outreach regarding accountability issues and reviews the operation of the accountability system. Each part is independent, but all three work together to meet the goals of the system.

As someone who has to deal with people like this cop does on an everyday basis let me offer you this. He or any other cop was called to the scene for a complaint, when he arrived he found two people matching the description and told them to stop. First warning bell goes off right there, when you don't comply that gets the cop nervous, after ordering them to get on the ground they the innocent folks here charged a rookie cop with blackitude and got their asses whipped. The first thing out of any thugs mouth is "you got the wrong guy", followed by I'm gonna sue, and finally " you makin this shiat up". I have been around the world but one, and I stress one thing never changes.

People say stupid shiat all the time in heated situations. The cop didn't make any charges up so I'm fine with a slap on the wrist. Cop haters are going to have to find another story to be outraged about, this one isn't worth the effort.

As someone who's dealt with the most vile human beings on the planet let me offer you this. The first thing out of any sadist's mouth is "Stop resisting!"

Okay... I was ready to put some rage in my rage but they were assault suspects. The cop mouthed off. Whatever. He wasn't under oath and cops are trained to bait "offenders". It ain't right but it's true. He was probably just trying to get them to confess to something bigger. Also the victim of the assault drop the charges likely out of fear of retribution which tells me these guys were probably assholes themselves.

It can't be FARK, because I know on FARK, any thread, any day of the week, you can get a lecture from a Very Worldly and Informed 12 year old about how everything the Government Does is wonderful and perfect. Cops are Government, where the rubber meets the road, so every action of every cop must be living perfection - just as it is for every IRS agent and regulatory bureaucrat.

I thought the police were trained to keep their cool in any situation. Guess they do as bad of job of training as they do of selecting.
