you'd think that when a pudgy millionaire wonk like newt says shiat like that, your average redneck would smell a rat straight away. sadly, i'm guessing they bought it hook, line and sinker.

Wow, that's hilariously condescending.

"Let me start from a simple premise that Oklahomans will understand: you cannot put a gun rack in a Volt," Gingrich said.

Why stop there? "BLACK MAN BAD. ME GOOD."

Both of whom prefer gun racks to Volts. But I do wonder - why cant you put a gun rack in a Volt?

Handguns don't need racks

Actually I think you could - most of these look like they'd work: http://www.tufloc.com/tufloc-vehicle-weapon-racks.html

Of course, then you're not displaying your guns on the back of your pickup truck and all, which for the average Newt fan is the important part.

You can still hold it out the window and fire it in the air every mile or so, just to let everyone know.

Same here.. Standard cab pickups are less than 1% of sales, making the gun rack useless for a quick-grab varmint kill.

Better off keeping a 410 snakecharmer under the front seat if you really need a weapon while driving around.

Well I can't. We're not allowed to mess with the manufacture plated test vehicles. I the people who own them can though.

Didn't conservatives used to love Chevrolet? The Volt is their signature attempt to modernize. Obama's ability to make Republicans hate American car companies is one of the better political trolls in recent memory.

2012-02-20 05:18:20 PM
But I bet come summer with looming gas prices they wil rather have a Volt than a gas guzzling truck.

At least in Wisconsin, which has some of the most liberal gun laws now (er, wait, are we allowed to say liberal? Conservative gun laws, but wait, they are liberal in that they have more freedom, uh.. anyway), you still have to have your long gun in a case in the car. So I don't know what good a gun rack would be. Although I have a gun case that is really nothing but a cloth sleeve, and that meets the requirements as far as I know. Plus, if your gun is just sitting there in sight someone might try to steal it.

That's probably what he thinks everyone there does.

It's the reverse of "stupid people think a smart person sounds like this". This is what Newt thinks people there are.

It's bizarre and unsettling watching conservatives hate on an American technology just because Democrats like it.

Electric cars should be a win-win. An American company is at the forefront of the technology. It uses sources of energy America has in abundance (coal, gas, hydro, nuclear) and less on stuff we have to import from countries who hate us (oil).

Watching Republicans hate GM... what the hell? Do you really hate Democrats so much that anything they like must automatically be a bad thing? At least use the Nissan as an example, rather than the GM.

ghare: Isn't an intelligent redneck just "country?"

Naw; intelligence and redneckitude are orthogonal. I've known some pretty smart rednecks with as many yard couches as "project" trucks that don't run. And I've -certainly- known some cosmopolitan, tux-owning, symphony-attending morans.

I'm trying to figure out if the bigger insult is the assumption that conservative, Newt supportin' types would automatically want a gun rack (and that they'd have no interest in Volts and, thus, ironically?, -conserving-), or that Volt owners would not have any interest in guns....

It would appear that the Volt's use as political fodder is equal to the current derp levels multiplied by the GOP's resistance to change.

I would have given it more thought had I not just bought a car in the past two years. Seems like a decent enough car.

Why would you want a gun rack on a volt? It would get stuck in the mud going anyplace worthy of a gun rack, unless you just felt like showing it off at a shooting range or something.

My problem with the Volt is that it gets 0 MPG when it's spun into a 6 foot snow embankment.

I'm all for alternative fuels, electric, whatever. Just why do none of them have 4WD or AWD and some ride height? Especially considering diesel and electric make the most torque at the low end, which is exactly what you want on a 4WD.

I'd buy the Euro diesel Wrangler in a heartbeat if they ever released it in the US. Which won't happen, because our emissions laws are effed in the head.

Well, duh.

Not sure where it is in the order, but "ingenuity" is definitely on the list with "gheys," "minorities," "women," "the west coast," "the northeast," "soccer," "poor people" and "arugula."

/ but the by-extension hatred of *GM* is kind of mind-bogglingly fascinating
