It only took a few seconds to find the video online. *shrugs*

Ouch.

The creature probably wouldn't have bitten her if she hadn't tried to kiss it.

Homemade video of the Feb. 8 bite was soon readily available on YouTube. And Channel 9 officials acted swiftly to have it removed, which could be argued was an act of hypocrisy, bullying or outright censorship. Do the rules change when the media becomes the story?

There's an old saying, freedom of the press belongs to the man who owns one. If you are a YouTube user you are at the mercy of YouTube, which will cave in to illegitimate takedown requests. If you own your own station and have lawyers and money, you can say "fair use" and wait for the Nielsens to come in.

I'd bet she won't do that again. It was tragic but it was her own fault.

From the comments section:

"Let's clear up one thing: We're talking about KDVR and KWGN, two stations that happen to be part of the Fox television network, not Fox News Channel....Two network affiliates. Just as KUSA is an NBC station, but not necessarily a finger of NBC News."

Not that this will deter the oncoming fusillade.

KUSA is more of the "anchor's lip" of NBC News.

I'm shocked that a "Libertarian" would think like this.

The CEO sets policy. If the employee isn't following the policy then they get fired (new window). It happens in corporate and it happens in small affiliates.

Or do you believe that Fox is more holistic than that?

I watch the news on my local Fox affiliate sometimes and I've never noticed any overt bias one way or the other.

The Fox affiliate in Atlanta in the past year or so had been going after Governor Deal for a variety of reasons, none overtly 'conservative' in nature.

2012-02-20 01:34:20 PM
fark 9news. I'm glad that Fox covered it.

1) The way that they've been acting you'd think she took a mortar to the head. She had a little rip in her lip- not life threatening.

2) Also, The stupid dog police were only holding the dog because it was a high profile case, and they admitted it. Most dogs who are quarantined get out early, but due to the stink they made, that dog got punished for ten days. The dog was clearly not a threat- it was saying 'get lost' not 'I'm gonna fark you up.'

3) I put something up on facebook that said 'I hope you get good Doctors, Kyle' and they took it down, because everyone else kept sending prayers.

4) I only watch in the hope that there will be a wardrobe malfunction on Amelia Erhardt.

Fox doesn't own or operate the station.

People often think media owners pull daily strings. I'm pretty sure this isn't the case.
Nonetheless, an organization with the sort of "ethics" Mr. Murdoch tolerates is, eventually, going to allow a local rule that encourages puerile on-air behavior for the sake of "viewer interest."

2012-02-20 01:39:53 PM
How about you news types cover it and us consumer types will determine if its newsworthy or not. Stop filtering, editorializing and/or otherwise interfering with news reporting. That's not your job.

Nope they set policies that pull the daily strings. Why are there so many people on fark that don't know how businesses work?

2012-02-20 01:42:44 PM
They did the same thing in KC when the FOX4 weatherman committed suicide after Thanksgiving. They asked the other stations to not report it, because the family was being notified... Yet if it was a politician or local businessman, they'd be all over it, family be damned.

Typical media hypocrisy.

They should show the woman's face getting bitten. It is unfortunately news. And by trying to black it out, made it more newsworthy.

2012-02-20 01:43:12 PM
So when the media becomes the news, they shouldn't have their privacy invaded, right? right?

Fark them. They (all of them) spend considerable effort in broadcasting blood porn, so they shouldn't feel so butthurt when someone returns the favor.

TFA: "She was undergoing emergency reconstructive surgery after the 85-pound Argentine mastiff took off half her upper lip, requiring 75 stitches. She lost a lot of blood, and her lips were sewn shut."

You might be downplaying the injury.

2012-02-20 01:45:51 PM
If you watch the slow motion, not only does the dog growl and bare teeth before the attack, but you can see her face for a second afterwards, it's not mangled.

Dogs are like people (and pretty much every other animal) they have personal space, the anchor invaded it and the dog let her know, that's all this is. Hopefully the dog is put down because of it.

2012-02-20 01:46:59 PM
Idiots treat dogs like stuffed animals.

2012-02-20 01:47:25 PM
The problem with myrmidons is that they don't understand nuance.
The FOX part of the equation is closer to the Simpsons than to FNC.

2012-02-20 01:48:15 PM
I'm sure channel 9 will start showing the clip now that they've all attended "how not to get your face bitten off" training.

2012-02-20 01:48:26 PM
Four dog breeds are illegal to own in the UK without an exemption from the court. This is one of them.

I'm all for adopting dogs but it's about the same as going to pick up a chick from the woman's battered shelter. Sure they all seem nice and like they're good and just had it rough before. But take them home and you'll realize they're a lot of work because some one before you really worked them over and now they are seriously emotionally damaged.

I'd rather every dog owner be micro chipped along with their pet. When it shows up in a shelter, they get the bill for how ever long the animal stayed there.

2012-02-20 01:49:43 PM
Don't worry, if it were footage of a random person getting attacked by a dog 9News would have no problem at all airing it.

Let us all feel sorry for the hypocrites.

2012-02-20 01:49:45 PM
Oh, such bad taste. The bitten news anchor was not shown any respect or sensitivity. How terrible.

Pbbbbbbt.

These news channels routinely profit from the tragedies of ordinary, non-news-person persons. Day-in and day-out. Car wrecks, murders, terminal illnesses, wars, what-have-you. That's how they make their money. But now, because it was a news anchor who was bitten, no one should see it. Everyone should show some respect and sensitivity for the poor news person who was injured.

Jebus. The cheek of these people. The hypocrisy. These ghoulish, exploitative sh*theads think they should be treated differently from the way they treat everyone else on the planet: As fodder for the morbidly-curious - to sell advertising time. Well, tough sh*t, news persons. Have a dose of your own medicine.

You said it better than me.

I would add that I think the problem is less about the lack of class shown by the Fox affiliate than it is the entire system of network reporting. Sure, they should report the news, even the bad stuff. They just need to stop the ridiculous hyperbole and intentional scaremongering

was a FOX show from the mid 1990s. At that time people thought TV couldn't get much worse. Then someone invented "reality" shows.

It's called policy:

Are the images newsworthy? √
Will people tune in to see them? √
In poor taste? √

You see all of the policies are in play so that people will tune in to their news channel. Furthermore, if you make the mistake of not following along with Fox policy then your job is at risk.

So do the Murdochs know or care about the producer of Fox Affiliated news channel x? -No.
Do the Murdochs set the policy for news channel x? -Yes.

As far as pretending "not to get" (or not to understand) this affiliation. Then you are either a) stupid beyond belief or b) playing games because you love right wing news companies.

2012-02-20 01:56:36 PM
I'm sure the corporate cocksuckers at NBC or CNN or any other mainstream media station wouldn't run any news item about anybody at Fox doing something stupid. That would be just completely ignored in deference to their privacy.

She lost half of her upper lip. She lost a lot of blood, and the doctors had to sew her lips together. Sew her lips together.

That said, if a station would air that footage if the victim were someone else, then they should air it if it's one of their own. It's not footage of the woman being raped, FFS. It's a dog bite.

"Do the rules change when the media becomes the story?" You Betcha....

Actually other local news outlets should have sped over in their news vans and jumped out and shoved microphones in her face as she was trying to get medical treatment. Blocking ambulance staff.

Asking loud questions like:
"did it hurt?"
"do you hate dogs now?"
"did the bite feel all slobbery?"
"are you upset?"
"knowing a vicious animal was on set, why weren't you wearing a helmet?"
