So my guitars are useless? I should buy an Apple and become ironic? Got it.

You can always use your guitars to bash a hipsters head in like the legendary Pete Townshend.

FTFA: He hits 'play' on a pre-loaded Macbook Pro, and his performance begins. He then proceeds to jump, scream, squeal and seizure while adjusting a variety of buttons and knobs that create the guttural tones that incite hysteria within his audience.

I don't think the problem is so much with Skrillex, per se, as with his audience.

/disclaimer: never actually heard Skrillex

I like Dubstep, at least as a cultural artifact. I mean, to me if you where to plug in some speakers to a global finical meltdown, political unrest, and our anxieties that our empire is declining, and I'm pretty sure that it would sound something like WUBWUBWUBWUBSCCCRREEEEEEEWUBWUBWUB.

The 21st Century ain't no time to be making harmony.

If it's true what they say about how music affects brain development, then encouraging this crap will only accelerate our decline.

Low or no talent music is cheaper. Quit putting generic music in your ears.

I, for one, do not welcome our new mop topped musical overlords.

I, for one, do not welcome our new leather-pantsed, teased hair makeup wearing musical overlords.

I, for one, do not welcome our new flannel shirt wearing, neil young worshiping musical overlords.

No.

Daft Punk has structure compared to this.

you don't compare house to dubstep any more than you compare hair metal to 70s pop country.

Makes me wonder if Mr. Oizo's "Beat For The Douches" was both an ode to-and an indictment of-the genre....

is it okay that i've been a 'real' musician my whole life... yet, i love the current dub step/EDM scene?
i mean i know it's okay.. screw you haters.
i haven't been this excited about a music scene in a long time.

Like most genres: there is some good dubstep and there is a lot of bad dubstep. As with most genres, what is most popular, what you hear the most, is pretty mediocre.

Hay guise, is this the electronica-haters thread? YAY!

How about everyone just listen to what they like and don't listen to what they don't and STFU about other people liking other things? Just once?

Oh, right. Welcome to Fark.

I'll grant you that (it's been my defense of science fiction/musical theater/pop music for years). . . but I still dislike dubstep. I find it aesthetically unpleasant. Even stuff like Katie B, which should be right up my alley.

I was once very high and my friend made me listen to Burial. I told him it made me feel as if someone were digging out my soul with an ice cream scoop.

Where do I buy teased hair makeup or any kind of hair makeup? How does makeup wear musical overlords?

No. No I do not.

I think most dubstep is just too sonically jarring for me. That's the best wording I can come up with at this hour of the morning. A lot of the wuuuuub wuuub wuub wubwubwub (i.e. durations getting shorter as interval increases,) reminds me of people trying to tune instruments to each other. That may also be a part of it. Experimental Noise (or I guess anything Noise,) and this genre are two that I just can't seem to find much of anything in that I like.

I am glad it helps get people, especially kids, interested in some kind of music; that's something I won't complain about.

i guess i was thinking more that anyone would think the christmas lights presentation was cool, even if they hated the music.

i wasn't intending that haters would like the music. i can accept that people don't like dubstep, that's not my point. i don't love all of it myself, but i do like the EDM scene in general.

To everybody who unironically enjoys this crap:

Get farked. Get farked hard, get farked often, get farked in all your holes by the biggest, blackest multicoloriest* dicks you can imagine in an unending sequence of perpetual penetration. Forever.

To any commenter quoting this involving the subject of age, "internet tough guy" or "lighten up, Francis": the above statement goes double for you. Deal with it.

* scarier, no doubt -- even better if it's like some candy-striped 'Tim Burton circa Beetlejuice' kinds of dicks

seems like it's going a good job eliciting a reaction out of you.

i guess dubstep wins.

A lot of my poker buddies listen to dubstep, as do a fair number of the folks in the local groups I'm involved with. Most of them are in their 20s or younger, and most of them smoke a damn lot of weed.

Me, I can listen to it a little bit before it gets boring and I want to go back to something with actual thought put into it.

I'm sorry that something as unimportant as my taste in music works you up into such a rage. Perhaps you should seek counselling.

This is hardly a "new" type of music. Todd Rundgren was doing this over 30 years ago. He did it on his "Todd" album, "A Wizard, A True Star" and others. Considering the state of the art of synthesizers/computers back in the 1970's makes his music much more fascinating. This song you really should check out:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptUeQkvjxI0

But he can also rock: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-21kw6CeLA

No, it is NOT a rickroll!

/It is great to listen to after dropping acid
