hahahah awesome

Reminds me of when Bob Schieffer said this on Face the Nation: Link (new window)

Love it.

It is akin to Newt claiming how dare people quote him directly from his previous appearances and interviews...

Liberals are truly devious.

2012-02-19 08:32:08 PM
Uhhh ... did subby (or anyone) read the same article I did?

The religious group in question is NOT a conservative organization ... as least as to GLBT issues.

2012-02-19 08:32:52 PM
Curse you liberal puppet masters!

2012-02-19 08:33:17 PM
They have a very valid point. The problem, however, isn't with MSNBC, it's with the asshat leaders within the GOP who align themselves with those raving maniacs.

words have a liberal bias?

no subby, its moderate religious voices trying to stop the crazy train

obviously subby missed the Reverend at 2:00 calling for an end to gay bashing

right.. The impression I got was a Christian group decided they didn't want farkwad representing the Christian faith on MSNBC because he spews all that hateful bile and hides behind the cross...

sounds to me they're doing what all Christians should be doing and telling people like this to STFU.

Tony Perkins is undeniably a jackass and the FRC are unchristian, sanctimonious, judgmental assholes, but rather than ask for MSNBC to keep him off the air, kindly ask to appear with him.

The best way to shut that puke down is to counter his hate with kindness. I want these people out in the clear light of day but I don't want to hear them give monologues. Make them explain their un-Christlike actions.

I guess the transcriber of the comment and the person who proofread the article were both asleep.

Bishop Gene Robinson is the one that made headlines years ago for being the first openly gay male ordained as a bishop. He's definitely not the average conservative Christian, and Episcopalians as a whole tend to be damn liberal, though not all.

No, everyone else in the thread would rather fap while thinking about how retarded fundamentalist Christians can be.

/oh yeah, so retarded. tell me again how the earth is only 6,000 years old. mmm. . . oh yeah. now tell me again how much gays are ruining the world. ohhhh, fark yes. keep going, keep going, don't stop. POTATO!!!!

I'm fine with Christians who do not ride the extremist right-wing crazy train demanding equal time.

I am also fine with MSNBC and anyone else letting the crazy train riders show their asses to the world and discredit themselves as much as possible.

Tough call.

2012-02-19 08:43:29 PM
The problem is that the media isn't there to sell any viewpoint. It's there to make you watch. By yelling that every issue is a tightly-contested debate.

So when you have an issue that's decent people versus assholes, both sides get to talk instead of calling the assholes assholes.

It's a tough call. You can't possibly claim that the FRC is not a politically powerful and dangerous group that should have a lot of light shone on their shenanigans.

2012-02-19 08:45:56 PM
That seemed reasonable.

2012-02-19 08:46:26 PM
Um, I've gotta say that a group of non-crazy christians asking that MSNBC stop presenting the FRC as a legitimate and widely-accepted Christian institution seems pretty reasonable. Even the craziest right-wingers that I know think that those guys are irrational douchebags who should back off.

I agree. I'm glad that mainstream Christians are standing up to the fundies.

They have half a million members and hold significant sway over the voting patterns of evangelical Christian voters. They're as mainstream a right-wing group as it gets.

See what they are saying SOUNDS fine, until you realise that his views are a better representative of conservative christian thought than theirs are. A hell of a lot of christians dont even think people like them ARE christians, let alone representative of mainstream US christianity.

This smells like a false flag effort to silence a leading voice for traditional issues.

Reading is hard, eh, subby?

And I really am sick of MSNBC giving airtime to Tony Perkins, it's about the same as giving airtime to David Duke in a misguided attempt to provide equal time opposite Al Sharpton.

Subby, I think you need to read a little closer. All they want is to get this psycho off the air:

And frankly, I don't blame them.

Bears repeating.

I'm surprised groups advocating for the mentally handicapped aren't fighting to get this guy off the air. Putting him in front of a camera and letting him speak is cruel and makes fun of his disability.

Perkins is a "true Christian ", he's a bible lliterallist. Without Adam and Eve, there is no original sin, there for no need for god to farther himself, so he can be crucified.

There's only one small problem with this. There are a whole lot more crazy people out there that will board that train
when exposed to that type of stupid. It's when the train get fully booked that you gotta start worrying.

I find his whole stick repulsive. The problem is reasonable Christian voices are rarely given the chance to speak on the public airwaves because it doesn't make for compelling TV. Watch Bill Moyers on PBS sometime. Most of the signers (like me) use complete sentences, nuance, irony and wit to support our points of view. Or at least we try. And we get sarcasm and hypocrisy, too.

Spong and Robinson speak for an awful lot of Christians, just not the kind that make for entertaining, 24-hour-news cycle clips.

You may not agree with my views on religion, and that's fine. We live in a free country where you're free to think I'm full of shiat, and I'm OK with that, too. I don't believe America should be a fundy-Christian theocracy, as Santorum seems to be proposing. You may think I'm nuts for the croutons-and-shot glasses in church, too. But, it works for me. And for a lot of folks. We all have our own schtick. Some is more intrusive and demanding than others.

I just wish they'd quit claiming that, because we both claim the name "Christian" that we're saying the same thing. Because we ain't.

Regards the dreaded Doug Piranha: He used... sarcasm. He knew all the tricks, dramatic irony, metaphor, bathos, puns, parody, litotes and... satire. He was vicious.

You think that's vicious? We let them talk in front of cameras.

In subby's defense, the article is extremely confusingly written as to who is complaining about what to whom.

To better summarize, Faithful America (a faith-based group) which is NOT very conservative as to GLBT issues, wants Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council (another faith-based group) which IS conservative and also a bunch of dickwads as to GLBT issues, not to be on MSNBC, because of their stance on said issues (probably wide).

Essentially, one religious group is condemning another religious group for being assholes.

Well then they should try getting Mr Perkins to shut his cock hole, not bug MSNBC for doing legitimate journalism.

And "Tony Perkins"? Guy sounds like a psycho.

No offense ... but it's not that confusing ... at least to those with a modicum of reading comprehension skills.

I'm torn. I don't like the idea of people like Perkins being seen as representing the Mainstream. On the other hand, people like Perkins do have a lot of pull in the Republican Party - the party that held hearings on birth control just last week. We should hear what guys like Perkins have to say because we should be aware what these farkers are up to.

Thirty years ago, I told my friends that the people on the 700 Club were gunning for PBS and the NEA. My friends all laughed and said there was no reason to worry. And then it happened. We need to be aware of the crazies who have power.

To be fair, there were a bunch of ministers and clergy who signed on to encourage Congresscritters about marriage equality.

Of course, you didn't exactly see those ministers, rabbis, priests or Imams interviewed...

I completely agree. Like many others (new window), I have a huge problem with how American mass media treats religion.

It's always good to see people that manage to be good despite their religious nature.

Do they really think someone watching MSNBC is going to be converted into hating gays by some religious guy brought on the show to be laughed at?

Is it really necessary to resort to such gyrations for a greenlighted headline, subby? It's not as if they need your help to look any more ridiculous.
