A Russian scientist and a Czechoslovakian scientist had spent their whole lives studying the majestic grizzly bear. Each year they petitioned their respective governments to allow them to go to Yellowstone to study these wondrous beasts.

Finally, their request was granted and they immediately flew to New York and then on west to Yellowstone. They reported to the local ranger station and were told that it was the grizzly mating season and it was much too dangerous to go out and study the animals.

They pleaded that this was their only chance. Finally the ranger relented. The Russian and the Czech were given cell phones and told to report in each and every day.

For several days they called in, and then nothing was heard from the two scientists. The rangers mounted a search party and found the scientists' camp completely ravaged. No sign of the missing men.

They then followed the trail of a male and a female bear. They found the female and decided they must kill the animal to find out if she had eaten the scientists because they feared an international incident.

They killed the female and cut open the bear's stomach... only to find the remains of the Russian.

One ranger turned to the other and said, "You know what this means, don't you?"

"Of course," the other ranger nodded. "The Czech is in the male."

AirForceVet: BFD. I do because I prefer to. I don't fully trust electronic transfer, ESPECIALLY the automatic payment ones.

I still ride a horse because I don't trust those internal combustion engines, ESPECIALLY the fuel injected ones.

Usually blue haired old ladies with 80+ items in the express lane who wait until EVERYTHING has been scanned and bagged before they even BEGIN to pull checkbook out and begin to spend a full 5 minutes filling it out and then as they hand it to checker forget that they had a few coupons and could they run those through and retally and finding out the !0+1 coupon for tuna fish was for tuna packed in water NOT oil so they need to pull all of it out and subtract that too and is the checker SURE that total is correct? and ok finally start over with a new check and be sure that the first one was voided and/or destroyed and she is really looking forward to baking pie this weekend becuase the grand kids are coming over probably on Thursday and cherry use to be Walter's (her dead husband) favorite but the grand kids like apple so she will make apple and does anyone know of any good ways to stop crust from getting to flaky? Cause last time she made apple pie........ad infinitum and so it goes as you pull your hair out in frust-f*cking-stration hoping that you can FINALLY get your turn to buy your one drink and snack for lunch which you will have to eat on the drive BACK to work cause all your lunch time was taken up by the blue hair writing a check................................................................. ..........

The Voice of Doom: TFA Also key to the rate of decline: Finding easy options for people-to-people payments, such as the check you dash off for the neighbor's Girl Scout cookies or to pay the landscaper.

I've heard of some revolutionary new concept that works really, really well for those not really large, people-to-people payments.
I think they even came up with a name for it that rhymes with "dash".

Yeah but not everyone smokes hash.

SilentStrider: Once a month, for rent.

Same here. You know what truly freaks me out, though? The only time I ever write anything, or hold a pen at all, is to sign my name. Birthday cards, checks, and that's it. Anything else goes into my laptop, iphone or iPad. I tried to write a paragraph in cursive the other day and it felt like trying call up an ancestral language from my very bones.

Yeah, I prefer to go to the automatic ATM machine myself. How hard is it to remember a 4 digit personal PIN number anyway?

It's weird. I can remember when most people going through the checkouts in the grocery store paid by check, except for the few who paid by cash. Now, if there's anyone in front of me writing a check, it seems to take F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

What doesn't help:

1) The people who are really proud of their penmanship, and very carefully write everything in. VERY carefully. Very SLOWLY and carefully.

2) The fact that the farking stores are obviously trying to discourage them, by putting them through some kind of cancellation machine, then asking to see the driver's license. OMG, get it done while I'm still alive!!!

3) At least half of check writers have to BALANCE THE farkING THING before they take their groceries and go. Next month: doing taxes in the checkouts.

4) There's worse. Yeah, there's actually worse.....and its some people who pay in cash. Ever get in line behind Exact Change Harry / Harriet? They can't just give the cashier a wad of greasy bills, take their change and go. Oh fark no. No way. They have a CHANGE PURSE, and will root around in it looking for exactly the right combination of pennies, nickels and dimes to get it done.

Just shoot me. Now.
