Originally signed up for Facebook as a way to keep track of my family on the other coast. After about three weeks I remembered why I moved to a different coast in the first place.

FTFA: Twilt (n): the particular brand of guilt or self-reproach that results from posting, liking or commenting on items on Facebook or Twitter while simultaneously not responding to emails, text messages, phone calls or other types of personal communication with the knowledge or anxiety that the specific message senders will notice your public offerings and question your lack of private ones. Twilt, while related, is not the same as the guilt that results from general Internet-specific procrastination such as browsing blogs or online shopping, which, though it may result in its own brand of self-disgust, generally has no public shame component.

Yeah, that has happened to me. In fact, it has been happening since 3 weeks ago. I've been procrastinating some work I need to do(I work at home), to the point I don't want to open Gmail anymore. Now since my boss has me on Twitter, he probably sees I'm posting crap the whole day.

I was supposed to procrastinate for a couple of days but it has snowballed and now I'm in that state of inertia where you just stay in the same state without doing anything about it o_o

I mainly use Facebook to keep up with family and "friends", you know people who you'd actually recognize if they walked in the room. Keeping it under 100 ...

Somebody, put this in the urbandictionary and say it means "Someone who tries to create a new internet term but fails so horribly."

I look at what my friends are up to but I no longer update my page. I know it can become a drug; I have an old school pal I re-contacted who became a FB AW, posting every last little thing about her 6yo son's school achievements and constantly wheedling for me to update her. I could barely get her off chat when we did it, for all the pleeeease pleeeeeeeease PLEEEEEEEEEEEASEing. And this was someone I actually kinda liked.

The only reason my Facebook exists is damage control; ie hiding pictures from college that my old "friends" will inevitably tag from time to time.

FARK is important to me. I get news from all over the world from FARK. It's kinda funny when I hear people talking about something "new" that I read about three days ago.

I only use it to post links to music or such, share a joke... basically nothing personal. Sometimes I message people. And if someone else share's something I like I might comment on it. Then there are some people who update their pages with things like song lyrics or where they're going to eat. I just gloss over those. Why they feel the need to post it to everyone, or why they think anyone cares, is beyond my comprehension.

I don't have enough friends to justify the act of "being on Facebook."
It's the same reason I don't have a cell phone.

Lived in the same city - listed in its phone book - and worked for the same employer for quite a number of years. Both parents still living. Therefore, no special skills are required to "track me down."

I joined Facebook many years ago.
I used it to post drunken sad sack rants about nobody caring about me.
Then I stopped drinking.
Then my relatives started sending me friend requests.
Then I got a job for the school board working with children.
I haven't touched face book in 3 years now.

Whats more disturbing is when businesses/agencies etc have a twitter feed and a facebook page. Then when they actually read the user agreements for both services, they spend millions on making their own internal form of facebook.

We're supposed to be working. Not constantly clicking on a bunch of social crap that doesn't matter. Want to stay connected in your field? Go to a conference. Read some journal articles.

I'm on facebook for about 45 seconds per day unless I have some business, then it might be 15 mins. I think I'm doing it right. Fark, on the other hand, is a worm that eats my time. But I don't stress about it.

I like witty banter with old friends and seeing what people are up to.

I was friends with folks for a reason: We have mutual interests. I'm constantly learning things or having conversations on things I'm interested in with my Facebook friends.

I'm pretty liberal with the "hide posts" feature. I'll accept just about any friend invitation, but if all you talk about is Ron Paul, how awful abortion is, or you post every time a gay kid commits suicide then you're bringing me down, and you're going on ignore.

I came here to defend the guy from the dumbass tag, as Facebook and other similar things can have a very addictive effect on the right people. I wanted to talk about how it might seem/be pathetic from the outside but that the anxiety and addiction that people feel are still quite real and quite painful.

Then I read the article up to the jump, and it just seemed to be some guy jerking off about how he invented a really stupid term. So yeah, carry on, dumbass tag.

/And don't forget to mention how you don't use Facebook.

I generally keep people I've liked over the years. Definitely reconnected with some old friends who are randomly in my city. It's also great to keep up with my old friends back home, as well since I can't really call and whatsapp isn't nearly as ubiquitous in the US as the rest of the world.

14% of Facebook users would rather do jumping jacks for Jack Lord. If you think this is wrong build a barbecue pit and rub processed cheese on a dog.

Ha.
CSB:
I once said this to someone on the telephone who was going on and on about how all those chicks I wanted to fark in high school would be there and that the reunion would be so cool. I told him I wasn't interested in seeing who got fat. I think he thought himself fat. (He lives in Texas and is very vain.) Haven't spoken to him since, going on ten years or so. No reunion, no problemo.
