Well, compared to Raquel (especially in the year 1970), most women would look like men.

If anyone would know this, Myra Breckinridge would.

I didn't know what a Mae West was, but after looking at some photos, I can believe it.

Can't wait to see what our resident trannies have to say on the matter.

I'd hit Raquel, despite her being as old as she is.

That's some fine transvestism, especially for the 1930's.

Have you seen trannies?

Watch a few Maury Povich's episodes about drag queens and transvestites ... you might change your mind.

Well, you're talking about modern trannies. You're telling me that in the 1930s they had the means of giving a man curves and fake breasts?

It makes sense. How else would such clever witticisms have come into the world unless there'd been a penis between the legs of their originator?

Allegedly, Elvis Presley turned down the chance because of that whole possibility.

I would still have hit it. Although granted, if she had a penis bigger than mine, it would have been a bit awkward.

I could buy into the fact that she had a certain degree of hermaphroditism but there is no way that she was a "man" in drag. There are some pics on the internet with her in bathing suits and she definitely has feminine curves that a man in drag just couldn't pull off.

I'd rather have had Mae West. Bish was boss and didn't take no guff from nobody. Raquel Welch, although attractive, was really just something pretty to look at with little real substance to her.

People Mae West has allegedly been linked to:

LINK

That she was linked to Bugsy Segal would give me a no vote towards being a man.

That she was linked to Liberace....now I think thats a solid yes vote

Weren't Raquel and Mae both in that film as well?

2012-02-18 12:16:36 PM
I downloaded Raquel's latest book to my Kindle, and after reading the first chapter I realized that Raquel is now a right-wing reactionary. She spent an inordinate amount of time whining about how women these days sleep around too much. She still looks great, though.

/always found Mae West creepy, but drag was too primitive back then to pull it off

2012-02-18 12:22:36 PM
In a world without drug therapies & plastic surgery, hormones do strange things to the human body as it ages. Women grow facial hair & their voices deepen, they can get reactive & jealous. Men start to display nesting tendencies, get weepy or silly more often. Mae might have been reacting to Raquel's being surrounded by more than a few good hard men.

You guys act as if the techniques and technology for cross-dressing didn't exist until the 1950s. Need I remind you that people have been cross-dressing since shortly after people started wearing clothes?

Jeez. Look at the Romans, the Greeks, the Renaissance period, the ancient Egyptians, and tell me that they didn't have ways to make a man look like a woman!

Okay, so Mae had some big breasts. So did W.C. Fields.

I saw her on the Early Show the other morning, and she has had some plastic surgery of late. She's starting to look like THIS:

/which is a shame because she looked good without having had it done.

Those curves do not occur naturally in a man.

Yeah there is no way to pull that off without major surgery or massive doses of estrogen, that just didn't happen back then and would be impossible to hide, hell even in the 70-80s trannies still looked like men.

Highlights: Surgery for MtFs has been around longer than you think, and hormones also. Mae West was in a trans-themed play. Does any of this mean that she was a transwoman? No, not at all.

Kid from an old Hollywood family here.

My granduncle used to co-own a riding academy with my grandfather in what is now Griffith Park. That academy was a gathering place for celebrities. Walt Disney had his polo ponies there and my mother was Tab Hunter's first beard. That was where my granduncle met Mae West and begun a long affair with her until his death in 1956.

Mae West met my granduncle shortly after World War Two and rationing began. Besides renting out horses, my granduncle was an infamous black marketeer. Out of ten barns, only one had horses in it. My granduncle had everything from silk stockings to cars in his inventory. And he met Mae West because she needed silk stockings.

Mae West had the honor of being the only woman ever allowed at the Never-ending poker game. The poker game started sometime after the riding academy opened and ended when my granduncle passed away. Imagine if you will, Walt Disney, W. C. Fields, and Tom Mix playing cards at the same table. Mae West also became best friends with my granduncle's wife.

After the war ended, my granduncle had a riding accident which resulted in him becoming a paraplegic. Afterwards he lost the riding academy and Mae West threw a fund raiser for him so he had something to live on. His wife and Mae West continued to be friends until her death in 1966.

Mae West passed away in 1980.

I have very sincere doubts that a man who used to go to whorehouses with Tom Mix would have such a long affair with a transvestite without being outed in all that time.

I went to the "Baton Rouge" in Chicago in the 80's....Total tranny fest...Trust me...the trannies had cuter bodies, hair, makeup, and boobies then most women....I can believe this....pfft....there have been crazier stories from the early Hollywood days....The media was not as noisy/annoying back in the day....

On the movie set for the movie 100 Rifles (1969) Raquel Welch asked Burt Reynolds why he had not made a pass at her (romantically). Burt told her that he was certain that if he got into her pants he would find a poster of herself there instead of any female parts.

Ok if you wanna believe that then fine, now show me of any man living as a woman that wasnt known in the 1900s, the modern world made them more passable but as recently as the 70s most just looked like a man with a wig on, aka, Rupal.

2012-02-19 01:27:02 AM
Well, when they made Myra Breckenridge, Mae was well into her 70s and had spend a couple decades hanging out with gay men in Hollywood (those decades being the 1950s and 1960s), so it wouldn't surprise me that she'd picked up a lot of camp habits from men who had in turn gotten them from... Mae West movies.

She also had fark you money by that point, as she'd poured a lot of the money she made early on into LA real estate. That meant she could make completely outrageous demands (like final approval on everything) and get them, as she didn't need the job.

I also admire an honourable defence...especially from those who could remain silent
