I've know Lauren since she was in 6th grade. She was never a drunk/druggie, got good grades, was a star athlete. In high school she dated the Quarter-back.

Lauren is/was a pride of this community.

It's kind of a shame that it has come to this. The dude was a few months shy of 18. NOBODY was harmed here. They should move her to an area where she no longer has responsibility over this kid (in the same way that you wouldn't want a family member in charge of a relative or a legally dating couple in charge of one another) or even demote her or give her some unpaid time off, but to bring this kind of suffering down on everyone is just silly.

This kind of stuff happens way more often than most realize, she is just one of the unfortunate (and honestly, not careful enough) ones who got caught. The biggest offense here in my opinion, is the committing of an act that looks bad in print.

It should have been kept internal to the school and handled discretely.

It's really a shame and a stupid waste that they're charging a good person with such severe punishment for having a lapse in judgment that did not hurt anyone, AND which was on the verge of being completely legal. I hope that she beats the charges or, failing that, that the judge and jury have some got-damn sense and just give her a slap on the wrist. Losing her job and having to be on that registry is far more than punishment enough for what I think is essentially a non-crime.
