Wow 4-8 years for killing someone?

downstairs: Wow 4-8 years for killing someone?

She's damned lucky she didn't have any LSD on her. That would have been an automatic 10 years in prison.

2012-02-17 02:22:19 PM
WTH, 4-8 years? Throw them in jail for the rest of their lives, they murdered someone and ran down others. They should never see the light of day.

2012-02-17 02:23:07 PM
"That night, I just wanted to go out and have fun," Williams said. "It was totally out of my character to act like that."

It's okay, folks. She was OOC when she did it.

2012-02-17 02:23:16 PM
How in the world did a drunk person deliberately running down 6 people, and killing one, only get 4-8 years?

What am I missing (besides a GED in law?)

2012-02-17 02:23:35 PM
Not to blame the victims here, but after the third time the car comes by and bowls someone over, how is it that you're not taking cover somewhere a car can't go?

2012-02-17 02:24:26 PM
"That night, I just wanted to go out and have fun," Williams said. "It was totally out of my character to act like that."

So I guess that makes it ok.

Reads article hmm...nope, not the ex

2012-02-17 02:25:19 PM
How is it that running down six people, killing one, is a lighter sentence than simply carrying cocaine?

2012-02-17 02:26:46 PM
Good thing she didn't have a joint on her. She'd never see the light of day again.

2012-02-17 02:27:26 PM
Let me get this straight:
If you're sober and you intentially run someone over, you typically are awarded sentencing in the 20 to life range.
If you drink and drive, you can get anywear from a suspended license to a year or two in prison, depending on how many repeat offenses you have.
However, if you combine those two offenses, you only get 4 to 8? Is that some kind of discount for consolidating cases from two trials into 1?

I don't think that the sentence for all your crimes should be averaged together, but maybe that's just me.

This part astounds me:

At a preliminary hearing in May, Davis testified that she walked the inebriated Cheeves and Williams to their car five times after they were refused entry by a security guard, whom they punched in the face.

Why didn't they (the bar management) call a cab, or for that matter, the police? Walk them to their car? Fail!

You're forgetting that they're women. It's amazing how many years get shaved off the sentence when they turn on the waterworks.

2012-02-17 02:31:14 PM
I guess murder isn't as bad as long as it doesn't involve guns or certain drugs.

2012-02-17 02:32:22 PM
Let me see if I got this right.

They were denied access for two and a half hours.
Escorted to their car 5 times
They punched a security guard in the face (simultaneously?)
Williams did three laps of hit and run then turned the car over to Cheeves
Cheeves did the final lap killing sombody in one go around (obviously she was aiming for center body mass)

Must of been a full moon that night, ladies

Captain Darling: I guess murder isn't as bad as long as it doesn't involve guns or certain drugs.

Or you live in a miserable shiathole of a city where judges kowtow to the venal lumpenproliteriat who run the joint and don't take crime seriously.

/any wonder why Philly has the highest murder rate of any major US city?

2012-02-17 02:34:44 PM
I know you don't know me, so you don't know that's not who I am

I know you were an ass that night and you killed someone. So it looks like that's who you are.

2012-02-17 02:35:06 PM
It's a sad joke, but a joke nonetheless...I say if you're going to kill someone, get drunk and run em over....3-4 years max for vehicular manslaughter...gun/knife/hands. 25 years.

They really need to change the laws. And this coming from a sometimes aggressive driver.

2012-02-17 02:35:36 PM
Judge Benjamin Lerner sentenced Cheeves - who was driving when the car hit and killed 27-year-old Alisha Moore - to four to eight years in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Cheeves, who was initially charged with a general count of murder, pleaded guilty in December to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, conspiracy, aggravated assault, and leaving the scene of a crime.

WTF?! One, they should have stuck with murder. Two, how the fark is vehicular homicide along with that other shiat only worth 4-8 years in prison? Someone is dead. Others are still trying to recover from injuries and may never fully do so. The accused did it on purpose. Lock them up forever.

Well that makes it OK, she normally doesn't do stuff like that, just a bad night. Every one has had a bad night.

2012-02-17 02:36:32 PM
WTF? How is that not premeditated murder? They DROVE AROUND THE BLOCK multiple times looking for peolpe to drive into. How did they only get 4 and 8 years?

Our legal system is so f*cked.

"That night, I just wanted to go out and have fun," Williams said. "It was totally out of my character to act like that."

Oh, well that's ok then you farking lunatic biatch. You can't have your fun so you're going to run over other people, ending one of their lives in a pathetic fit of rage. It all makes sense now.

The crime itself is horrendous; the snotty "THAT'S NOT ME! THAT'S NOT ME!" attitude just makes me hope she dies in farking prison.

This. Life without a chance of parole would be the only fair punishment for those two dumbasses.

This might be off-topic, but damned if you don't have a good farking point.

Why Would I Read the Article: How in the world did a drunk person deliberately running down 6 people, and killing one, only get 4-8 years?

What am I missing (besides a GED in law?)

Alcohol + vehicle + plea bargain. The murder was probably 2nd degree (or lower, which has a lighter sentence. It was described by the article as "vehicular" so I am guessing there is a legalese difference between killing someone with a baseball bat and killing them with a car (maybe a lighter sentence? since it's easier to run someone over and since having a car implies having some money?) and a plea bargain which tends to reduce sentences.

But I'm guessing here.

I should add "only because I don't know if they do the death penalty there"

2012-02-17 02:39:03 PM
So, not only did they manage to kill one person, they made multiple passes of the club in an attempt to kill more people (in the eyes of the law, I would sincerely hope that deliberately trying to run someone down with a car is considered attempted murder). So really that's one count of murder and several counts of attempted murder. And the one who was driving only gets 4-8 years (which will probably be little more than 4).

I'm half tempted to start running down some of my family members. There's a few that are almost worth taking 4 years for. Heck, if we keep watering down these sentences then soon it's gonna be just 1-2 years and then everyone will be doing it!

The guilty plea tends to help. The courts tend to look a little more favourably on people not farking around and wasting time. This may be a little too favourably.

I'm totally killing someone next time I feel like it. I can do 4 to 8 and a 1k fine.

So much this! One of her victims was right there in front of her in the courtroom and she had the audacity to say "I know you don't know me, so you don't know that's not who I am". You tried to kill her you damn biatch. I doubt saying that it's not how you typically behave is going to make a damn bit of difference to her. Why even bother to say something so stupid.

Oh wait, I know why. So that the judge will reduce the sentence of course!

In the UK you get a max on one third off your sentence if you plead guilty at the earliest opportunity.

This sentencing sucks.

if you kill someone with a bat or a gun, you are going to prison for a long time.
but if you kill someone with your car, meh, 4-8.

Given that neither woman had a criminal record, Lerner said, he might have imposed lighter sentences but for the repetitive nature of the automotive rampage in the 2300 block of North Eighth Street.

4 - 8 years as they drove around 4 times and plowed through a crowd of people. So if I was a good aim and injured 6 and killed 1 on my first attempt would that be a $50 fine and no time in prison?

Sounds like Philly is the place to go should I get the urge to extinguish a few humans.

Or live in Northern Virginia are old money and politically connected. The thing that killed my wife and daughter was drunk. He did zero time. So maybe it's time you got off that horse, as it's rather tall.
