That's a pretty badass promotion. Not only do you get it around a week earlier, but it came FROM SPACE!

My daughter, for whom I have pre-ordered the game, (and is rather picky) says that it would be a bummer if it were weather damaged.

That would be cool, gotta wonder if any will make it to the midwest or not.

Of course, today is "Preorder on Origin, Get a free copy of Battlefield 3 (on March 6th)" day.

Playing the game requires installing Origin.

I'd want it just to sell it to someone who hates their computer enough to install Origin on it.

Here's hoping a copy ends up in the hands of a Patriot fan in some third world country.

wait, of course it won't. This is Mass Effect we're talking about.

They're actively scanning your hard drive for "pirated materials".

Stiger: Ugh. I was already turned off because of origin, but now there's multiplayer? Does that mean the story wraps up in 15 hours?

The Co-op (only co-op) multiplayer is pretty fun. I didn't like the thought of a Horde type mode in the game, but it works really well (though there are some balance issues). You can try it out yourself, they announced that the early access to the demo was over early and everyone can play it.

I doubt the story wraps up in 15 hours, but then again that was as long as it took me to complete my second ME1 run through. I don't give a shiat as long as it is an awesome 15 hours and they wrap up the series well.

I'm enjoying the fact that I'll actually own the copy I buy for my 360.

I don't understand the modern push to play games through an online service. I like having a stack of game disks from a decade ago that I can still play, and anything beyond that is available as a ROM (since most of my NES and SNES cartridges don't work anymore). Relying on an online service to play games? No thanks.

It's bloatware that doesn't belong on my machine. I hate running steam to play the games I downloaded through steam, but I put up with it because it was my choice, and I could have bought the games through other channels if I so wished. With Origin, I have no such choice, Even if I go out and buy a hard copy of the game, I STILL need to download, install, and run Origin in order to play the game.

That's completely crossing the line. I have 100 hours invested in the first two Mass Effect games, but I will not be buying this one.

Origin influenced my decision to purchase the game for the XBox 360, rather than for the PC, despite having a PC capable of running the game connected to the same television to which my XBox 360 is connected.

Well, Steam is required for some hardcopy games too. I know Bethesda does that. I don't like Origins because it likes to scan your computer to see what you have installed. They've claimed it doesn't, but Origins has "found" games that were already installed to other folders, and it couldn't do that without scanning your computer. Complete spyware.

Then again, I hear sandboxie blocks it. I'll have to check that out.

As an act of protest, how about writing a check for $60 to EA headquarters and then pirating yourself a copy of the game? That should send a pretty clear message about Origin.

As for the content of the game, though, I can't shake the feeling that this will be the game that finally crushes the Bioware brand. Has anyone here played the demo? How was it?

No need to play it - read the leaked script. Don't play what you don't want to.

I can't wait for the scene where zombie Kaidan assrapes Shepard, and forces him into a gay-threesome with Jacob while Garrus takes pictures.

No, they're not forced, jesus. Shepard doesn't turn magically gay and turn the Normandy into a fairy-tail land.

I'm almost certain that none of those copies will be for PC. Bioware treats PC gamers like red headed step children. Have you played the demo. It's obvious that this game was dumbed down because of the outdated console, specifically the xbox.

Near space (new window) and space (new window) aren't the same thing, I know I've said this many times before but it can't be helped when so called journalist can't get the facts straight (Not that there aren't some people out there who do get it in journalism). As for re-entry which leads to the burning up kind, that requires speed and a thinner atmosphere. As technically the atmosphere doesn't end until (10,000 km) 6,200 miles up high. If that was the definition of where space begun, it would mean only the Gemini 11 crew and the Apollo crew members had been to space.

That being said, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale or (FAI) which is the world governing body for air sports and aeronautics and astronautics world records has agreed that space as far as they figure begins at 62 miles up. As that's when you need rockets to achieve orbital speeds. That isn't to say the Kármán line is perfect but you wouldn't allow people think think tortoise and turtles are the same damn thing without calling them on that BS. Or at least I hope you wouldn't.

I could play it on the PC, but as a trilogy introduced on the 360, maybe that version should remain the priority.

Man, anyone remember when iTunes came out and Apple required everyone to run this free 9MB program if they wanted to play any music purchased online?

I wasn't putting up with that mega-corporate Gordon Gecko shiat. I gave up on music after that and remained the free spirit that I am today.

When I bought the first one, it was still a 360 exclusive, and that's how I'm going to finish the trilogy.

That they can pocket 60 bucks without a care, and then immediately scream that they have proof people are pirating copies.

Piracy brings out the stupid in publishers and devs, but this is heading towards that.

You heard wrong. Different lead writers, Mac Walters is the Mass Effect 3 lead writer, and has been for the prior games. There are no 'forced gay romances'. Previous actions still have impact, the demo even asks what choices you made so that it can reflect that properly.

I have stated that fact in a previous discussion, as I am aware of the means by which the statistic is compiled. Because of this, I will eventually "pirate" the PC version of the game and export my XBox 360 games for it.

The lead writer for ME2 is continuing on 3. The lead writer for 1 isn't around this time, but 2 was much more interestingly written, IMO. The director for every game is staying too.

The writing in the demo looks kinda bad from what I can tell, and features much less control. But if I understand the developers' claims, I don't think they'll have as much stagey, expository dialogue in the final release for people who import their files. I figure they did it on the demo in such a way, hacking out all of Shepard's detailed conversations, as it's probably the same one from last E3. I think EA has had a half-assed habit lately of putting out old beta demos.
