(MSN)   EBayer sells "WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET" locked safe for $123.00. Apparently he didn't 'see' the $26,000 locked inside, and is now unable to 'get' it   (now.msn.com) divider line 67

From eBay page: The items we sell come from a variety of bankruptcy, close-out, auction, surplus and salvage sales. Each item is visually inspected.

So basically they got this like Storage Wars. But instead of acting like the guys on Storage Wars who nearly shiat themselves when they see unopened safes (because of exact reasons like this), they decide to sell it unopened?

And LOL at the guy for thinking he could try and get some of the cash. That's what happens when you do brown bag auctions.

Can't blame him for giving it a shot. After all, worst case scenario the guy tells him no. Best case, the guy gives him $13,000.

On my favorite show, storage wars, the safes that they buy NEVER have any money in them but they always get excited thinking that there is some potential. I bet the owners of the storage companies throw those in to get the bidding juiced up.

If this happened to me I wouldn't say a thing about the money to anyone. "Hey everyone, I have $26,000 cash in my house"

I would NEVER get suckered into bidding on a unit just because it has a safe in it. I find it highly unlikely that some person who's renting a storage unit is going to leave valuable documents, gold, jewelry or cash just let sitting in a safe.

I guess technically it would be a gift and since it's over the $13k exclusion amount, safe seller has to file a gift tax return.

Worst case seems to be the entire world finds out what a putz he is. If he'd just sold the safe it would be a 'doh!' but the followup stuff is what puts him into douchebag territory: "I mean, if I was in that situation and I found that kind of money and I bought it from someone, I'd say, 'Here man, I found this money. I'll give you half of it.'" Uh huh.

First time I've seen it, so... I don't mind?

Anyway. As an ebay seller it is amazing to me how many of the others are obviously not very bright. They don't take the time to inspect their items or give details when it could easily be more profitable in the long run. Also I wish we could ding them for every time they list an item in the wrong category or with the wrong condition - 75% of the other video game sellers are flat out lying about their game conditions when you read the ebay description. Apparently they think as long as they're not caught, it's all good. Or else they were just too lazy to read it themselves.

All right I better shut up, I have way too many gripes about the company and other sellers (not usually the buyers though, oddly).
