It's more cost effective to just make believe they're all on drugs. That way we can lock them up, right?

Just because they're efficient? Don't give me that line. They're a crack team of drug testers, they're the police world's heroes and heroines.

Gibbens said he's not sure how common it is for one lab to file a complaint on another lab. "It's the first time it's happened to us," he said.

Begun, the Crime Lab War has.

Dunno, maybe people with undeserved criminal records, mandatory drug counseling and community service are outraged?

2012-02-16 04:19:14 PM
I see nothing wrong with that. For instance, I know I will have a .26 BAC by 9pm tonight. See? That was easy!

2012-02-16 04:20:41 PM
Maybe they're using one of those fancy cutting-edge quantum computers that produce immediate results so long as somebody gets around to inputting the data eventually.

these labs are even more sophisticated than the ones i see on TV. whoda thunk it?

A while back the Austin Chief of Police filed a law suit to get the identities of all people commenting on Statesman stories and won. My guess is it's a lot easier to just not allow any comments on certain stories.

Well, that'll help the Houston PD Crime Lab get through their 6,600 rape kit backlog in no time!

This will save the police the effort of falsifying the results themselves. It's more cost effective.

"It's a difference of opinion in how we report substances," Gibbens said.

Yeah, there are many ways to determine if something is a drug. One lab might look at the chemical composition of a substance while another could look at the physical characteristics. If it is green and leafy, then it is weed. White and powdery is coke etc. I'm sure both methods are just as accurate. What is the big deal?

Oddly enough, you're about right. Some labs will do a microscopic analysis on cannabis. Apparently, it has little hairs or something that are pretty unique. But that's not kosher on its own, you're supposed to do real work to make sure. See SWG-DRUG. And I'd love to know if they're ASCLD-LAB accredited or if it's some BS agency. Also, any scientist who falsifies results, especially in a criminal case, should be removed from the gene pool.

You see, it's just the ol' "Do we do the rigorous testing we're paid to do? Or just write up our best guess after taking a lick?" dilemma ... It's all a matter of personal preference, you have to understand. Some places choose their way, we choose ours. You don't see us going and telling them which way is right for them, now do you?. Sure, disagreements are bound to bound to crop up now and then, but that's no reason we shouldn't all get along, since (thank goodness) nothing important is riding on any of this.

No that is actually an inaccurate way. Weed is pretty universal but all kinds of drugs can be white and powdery. Ive seen DMT come in crystals resembling meth and a white powder resembling coke. I carry legal THC concentrates, hash and derivatives all the time that can resemble heroin. The tarry residue inside pot pipes many pot smokers scrape out is often a dead ringer for heroin as well. Thats just off the top of my head, Im sure other Farkers could name more. The common stuff is pretty recognizable, but beyond that it can be virtually impossible to differentiate drugs without chemical inspection.

For a drug lab to be releasing evidence for conviction and not providing 100 percent accurate results is inexcusable. Just making up drug results as its convenient for them to imprison people.

"Sunflower Moondust? Positive for weed."

"Mickey O'houlihan? BAC of .22."

"Shontavarious Johnson? Crack."

"Charlie Lee Wayne, Jr? Meth. Lots of meth."

"Brandy Amber McKinson? Oxycontin. Also positive for herpes."

Last Spring the Statesman claimed they were changing their forum or website, and that it was only temporary. I guess it wasn't.
