Since we know there are Farkers who are writers for Colbert and TDS, can someone enlighten us as to WTF is up?

brigid_fitch: Stephen Colbert has suspended production of his satirical comedy show temporarily because of an emergency in Mr. Colbert's family, according to people familiar with the show. (new window)

Guy definitely deserves a break, then... I just wish Comedy Central said "due to personal reasons" or something like that instead of the ever-so-helpful "unforeseen circumstances."

I agree. I was wondering if "unforeseen circumstances" had meant he'd gotten in trouble w/the FEC after all & Comedy Central had to yank him off the air. Glad that's not it but I don't see how a family emergency is any better.

I was wondering if the Koch brothers had him "disappeared" because of him drawing attention to the Super PAC fiasco.

Sorry to hear about his mother if that is true.

Take your time Mr. FunnyMan. We'll be here when you're ready.

perhaps this is a good time to reflect on the lulz he provides you, quantify those lulz in terms of dollars, and donate those dollars to the colbert superPAC on behalf of his family.

GranoblasticMan: I just wish Comedy Central said "due to personal reasons" or something like that instead of the ever-so-helpful "unforeseen circumstances."

Yeah really. Could have just said "due to a death in his family" and that'd be enough said.

2012-02-16 02:01:09 PM
The show hasn't been taken off the air. That's careless wording.

2012-02-16 02:17:53 PM
One of Stephen's most beloved "causes" is "donorschoose.org".

Please consider donating to them, and honor not only Stephen's family, but good teachers all over America.

Any chance I get to post this video (new window) (lulz starts at 1:45) is a good chance

"He wants to spend more time with his family" is always innocent enough sounding.

2012-02-16 02:43:21 PM
How did this get the asinine tag, subby? They don't do this shiat unless the circumstances are fairly serious.

2012-02-16 02:54:32 PM
Can't Jay Leno just step in?

2012-02-16 03:29:52 PM
Hope all is well with his family. I know, by all accounts, he's close to everyone in his family.

2012-02-16 03:31:45 PM
That sucks for him. Hope everything turns out.

Figure Stewart might say something about it tonight.

2012-02-16 03:45:20 PM
That's horrible. I hope everything is okay.

While I'm saddened for his personal loss, I'm glad this wasn't a politically motivated situation.

Goodness. I read the headline as "...unforeseen circumcisions".

/RIP Mama Colbert if that's indeed what it is.

2012-02-16 03:54:55 PM
Best wishes to you and your family, Stephen. Hurry back and tell us something funny about your serious situation. And put a political spin on it please.

2012-02-16 03:55:42 PM
I'm sure the reason they didn't mention why is because it was health related and they did not get an ok to announce medical issues from him.

2012-02-16 03:55:48 PM
Look, we drove chapelle to burn out and look how that turned out. No more chapelle. Let colbert take a little break.

2012-02-16 03:56:49 PM
Does the Colbert Report share most of The Daily Show's writers and crew? And have most of the same sponsors? If so, maybe they could just temporarily extend TDS to an hour.

That's political speak for sex scandal.

The AP handled that horribly. They're trying to make it sound like he did something so controversial, that the network pulled the show.

Journalism is a joke these days, but you'd think at least the AP could stick to the facts without trying to sensationalize, even when they do it subtly.

As someone who works for Comedy Central's Parent company, in the facility responsible for originating all content for Comedy Central, and other MTV Networks programming, I can at least confirm there is nothing nefarious looking about this at all.

We received a notice yesterday afternoon that Colbert would be "dark" for 2 specific dates, yesterday and today, and should be expected back next week.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Stephen Colbert pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
