It's even funnier when you realize that he gets socialized medicine through the VA

Or women and children being used in human trafficking as sex slaves.

But unemployment coverage is what's really dehumanizing.

I haven't seen any projections, but he's been redistricted since his election and the odds are against him.

I highly doubt Lt. Col. Angus gets treated at the VA. He may be in the system, and I think he's still entitled to the benefit even though he resigned, I've got to imagine he goes to a non-VA doctor and/or hospital.

Not mention straight-up old-school slavery in Africa and the Middle East.

Those assistance slaves must be forced to work for their food and shelter, right Mr. West!?

Actually they allowed him to retire, the Army wanted to avoid the Political shaitstorm from the "Patriots" who think the UCMJ is Un-Amerikan.

No. The only places "conservatives" get elected here are in the Mormon strongholds. And the only thing the Mormons here in Arizona hate more than the Mexicans is the N*****s.

Liberals engage in far worse hyperbole and they regularly cheered on Fark when they do so. I wouldn't even call what West said "hyperbole". He is making an analogy. If you are totally dependent on the gov't, you are not as free as a person that is not. As gov't takes on a larger role in your life, you are eventually controlled by the whims of gov't policy and mandates. West is telling people to break free from that situation. It's not a bad message.

i don't understand what he means when he says "remaining in the world today." doesn't that imply a decline in slavery? there are more people living in slavery today than at any point in world history.

you should probably write "analogy" underneath "slavery" and "hyperbole" on your list of sh*t to look up today.

Two things.

First: Slavery still exists today, and is a real problem in places like Dubai and Saudi Arabia

Second: Insidious was actually a pretty creepy movie, until that Further crap.

[citation needed]

That's not actually serious, I know there isn't one. The vast majority of welfare recipients are back to work in 2 years or less. Whatever your point is, it doesn't bear up to the facts.

oooh... HTML fail, it's just like slavery.

he made a thoughtful analogy. i've heard it before by other black americans. juan williams and bill cosby etc. he probably should not have compared it to straight up slavery though. i thought the safety net / hammock comparison was a fair comparison.

it's kinda funny how you liberal farkers have to bring out the profanity when describing the hate you harbor for any conservative that speaks his mind. i have never noticed the reverse of that. i'm not saying it hasn't happened, but its the truth.

He didn't make a thoughtful analogy... He spewed the same nonsense, the GOP has been spewing for decades.

It's hilarious watching the same clowns that have been gleefully trying to dismantle the "Safety Net" for the last 30 or so years, say they support the Safety Net now.

As to the idea that being poor is something that folks will want to be, so they can live high on the hog on their welfare checks is laughable, too. It's generally people who have never had to survive on the meager benefits the poor receive who spout this nonsense.

You can change where you work at any time. You can't change gov't policies and regs at any time. I guess you can leave the country, but that's unlikely if you are dependent on gov't in the first place.

You are correct that it is better in some ways to have your own business than to be employed by someone else. Of course, there are risks either way. The company could go out of business, but you could do that with your own business as well. However, a person that is successfully self-employed is more free in many ways than someone that works for a big corp. The more independent you are, the more freedom you have. I don't think that's some deep mystery.

But forget all that for a second. West message here isn't for everyone to start their own successful company. He's just talking about taking the first baby steps away from total dependency on the gov't. He's saying that's a bad place to be - and he's right.

We do have over a million Americans doing slave labor today, but they're all in prison on drug charges.
