After about 10 of them took turns issuing similar missives against the mandate, while dismissing Obama's religious accommodation as a gimmick, I put the question to them: Would any of you refuse to support a presidential candidate who enacted a similar mandate?
There were uncomfortable smiles across the stage. "Somebody else want to do that?" asked Fortenberry, stepping aside from the podium and looking around at his colleagues as they let out a mixture of laughs and groans. A few seconds went by and none volunteered.

Surely, the Catholic bishops and their evangelical enablers will turn their outrage on Romney immediately, since he's obviously part of the "war on religion" too.
Oh, wait, I forgot - they're also hypocrites of the highest order.

Romneycare contained exactly the same provisions on contraception that Obamacare did before last week's compromise was announced. That's right: Romneycare can now accurately be portrayed as falling to the left of Obamacare on the contraception issue.

Well to be fair the GOP pretty much feels the same way about Romneycare after it was tied to Obamacare.
This is why it's so funny. The GOP really has no issue with Romneycare since it's a state program. They don't like Obamacare because it's federal. Ann Coulter wrote an article on that a couple weeks ago. State mandates are fine by them, it's the federal ones they don't like.
But, since they have gone out of their way to turn their base into a bunch of uneducated cretins incapable of understanding nuance, they can't sell that distinction. All they can do is scream into the wind that Obama is bad. The infamous $10,000 bet dealt with this:
PERRY: "The fact of the matter is, you're for individual mandate."
ROMNEY: "If the people of Massachusetts don't like our plan, they can get rid of it. Individuals under the 10th Amendment have the power to craft their own solutions. I'm absolutely adamantly opposed to ObamaCare. It's a 2,000-page bill that takes over health care. It is wrong for health care. It's unconstitutional."
PERRY: "I read your first book and it said that your mandate in Massachusetts should be the model for the country. It came out of the reprint of the book. But, I'm just sayin', you were for individual mandates."
ROMNEY: "You've raised that before, Rick. And you're simply wrong."
PERRY: "It was true then. It's true now."
ROMNEY: "Rick, I'll tell you what. $10,000 bet?"
PERRY: "I'm not in the betting business. I'll show you the book."
ROMNEY: "I wrote the book. Chapter seven is called The Massachusetts Model. I have not said anything about our plan being a national model imposed on the nation."

Nah, most likely they'll respond that he's just doing that as part of a larger plan to get the next Democrat elected President, who will definitely take away all of our guns, raise taxes, and destroy Christianity.

They also can't sell it because a "violation of religious freedom" is supposed to be
just as bad at the state level as it is at the federal
level. Romney is the weakest frontrunner in decades, and nominating him would immediately take Health Care Reform off the table for the Republicans at all.

So, what is their solution/point? Do they want the U.S. to break apart and be more like the European Union.... every state is effectively a sovereign country but we just all agree to have the same currency and a few other shared rules? I mean, I guess that is what the "extreme" state sovereignty people want?

It's easy to forget the role of the Federal government vs the role of the State governments when people don't care about the Constitution or when they are just plain ignorant. But there is still a distinction. And Obamacare is at the Federal level while Romneycare is at the state level.

Hehe yeah, that's what this debate is all about. It's not about freedom of religion/the first amendment or separation of church and state, or pro-life vs. pro-choice. It's about federal vs. state government. You know this because not a single farking article anywhere mentions it and today is opposite day!
