Well, I've been advocating legislation that mandates all cars in Mass. be sold without turn signals. It should save new car buyers $50 per car. I am glad that I have your support for this bill.

We should bring back trafficators, but instead of lights they just have a middle finger that flips up.

I'm convinced that RI drivers are unaware that the lever to their left does more just switch to the high beams.

So the sign for entering MA from NH has a chickadee but the one from RI has an obese turkey?

When driving in MA remember the breakdown lane is the fastest lane, followed by the most inside lane.

the bill was voted down in the New Hampshire House of Representatives on Wednesday in a 285-18 vote.

That's a pretty massive beat down. Good on your NH!

Having lived most of my life in the PA/NJ/DE/MD region and recently relocated to the Boston area, I can say with absolute certainty that the drivers up here are so much better, more predictable, and more courteous than the drivers back home. They still cut you off or pull out in front of you, but at least (for the most part) they have the courtesy to speed up to the flow of traffic quickly instead of at a turtle's pace.

/Still trying to get used to the breakdown lane being a viable option on highways during rush hour.

From the article:
The website, borderwarning.com, includes a "horror stories" section where New Hampshire residents are encouraged to share accounts of arrests and fines resulting from unknowingly crossing into Massachusetts.
One story tells of an Iraq war veteran who was arrested after accidentally bringing his pistol, which was legally registered in New Hampshire, into Massachusetts on a drive to visit a girlfriend.

And from the linked site:
In December of 2008 he went to visit his girlfriend in Massachusetts. Being so accustomed to carrying a sidearm from both his military experience and living in New Hampshire, he forgot that he had his handgun with him and crossed the border into Massachusetts.

He had pulled to the side of the road to text his girlfriend(now his wife) to inform her that he was lost and was going to be late. This war hero with a valid New Hampshire Carry License then encountered the police in Massachusetts. The police discovered Kiklis's sidearm and arrested him for being in violation of Massachusetts's notorious gun laws.

Something tells me we're missing a few details in that story.

I grew up driving in the greater Boston area and was convinced they were terrible. Then I moved to DC and longed for the days I drive on I-90 and I-93. In Boston people fail to signal, follow too close and drive at insane speeds and two cars will go through a red light. These things are pretty predictable and you can plan on them happening.

In DC all bets are off. You have no idea if the drive in front of you is from a small town in the midwest or a country were driving is more a game of bumper cars. People do stupid things for no reason and you never know what is coming next.

He had a CCW for NH but not MA and there is no reciprocity. He was forced to plead guilty in MA for carrying a firearm with ID then jump through a bunch of hoops to get his CCW in NH back since he had a criminal record in MA.

I haven't read the details in awhile but from what I remember he pulled over to the side of the road with his hazards on to text message(so not to text while driving) he was in an "emergency stopping only" area and a police officer pulled over to see what the problem was.

He told the officer there was no problem he just didn't want to text while driving and was informed he wasn't allowed to stop there and asked for ID. The officer asked if he had been drinking or had any weapons and Kiklis told him he had a CCW and his handgun in the car.

Toots de la Footsjelly: RI drivers are tested every year when the DOT installs bus eating potholes and frost heaves. By summer we are slalom experts or dead.

One of my first greenlights all those years ago was a story about a driver who was pulled over because she kept swerving to avoid craters even after they had been patched.

I think most New Hampshire residents know to try to stay out of Lowell, Lawrence, and Haverhill.

In return, most Massachusetts residents know to try to stay out of Nashua, Seabrook, and that little town with the most militarized police force ever, Atkinson.

I was going to say This to this; with the new drive through (at speed) EZ Pass the lines really are nothing like they used to be in the past

as for the toll fee - Thanks! We appreciate your money!

If you don't want to pay you could always swim from Salisbury to Kittery, but I'd recommend you watch out for the currents out by the Isles of Shoals; they're pretty nasty.

Both my brother in law and I, almost in unison, said "No, that would be Connecticut"

I think of Route 24 as Massachusetts' autobahn. Get on from Route 128, wait until after Ikea or Brockton for traffic to settle down, and floor it until you hit Fall River. It doesn't look like much but traffic sure flies. Except for that car that wiped out on the other side as I passed. OK, other than the wrecks. Well, some of the wrecks fly, but not for long.

CSB time

my girlfriend when I was in college was from Middleboro, and I lived in Boston. So I'd have the make that trek during the summers on a somewhat regular basis. One night around 1:00am or so flying back up and no one else on the road. All of a sudden a statie decides to fly out of a fireroad (or something) from the right and dart straight across so he could head southbound. no one else on the road for miles and miles, and he decided to pull out in front of me like that - assumed he was just bored and wanted to f with someone.

When I was commuting to Boston for work, it seemed like once a week some jackass was flying off the road on 24...

Worst one I ever saw was a pickup truck with a backhoe on a trailer that was going way too fast on the Southbound side, and didn't see the traffic jam forming at the Burger King Rest Stop (where it goes from 3 to 2 lanes). Jammed his brakes and jack knifed, launching the back hoe end over end down the middle of 24. Someone lost their job that day, I'm guessing.

Then there was the time a small plane with engine trouble had to make an emergency landing on 24...

24 is sketchy! Especially after you get south of 495 and it narrows down to 2 lanes each way. It doesn't take long for things to horribly wrong on a 4 lane highway with short entry ramps when everyone's going 85...
