When I was middle-school age (around 1987) the school had mandatory showering after gym class. There was no WAY I was going to bother stripping down in front of all my classmates when the time came.
-I ended up moving and switching schools that summer so I never had to dodge it anyway, but really; why was that necessary?

Actually, what she's saying is perfectly logical.

A child who performs well scholastically will place their trust into authority figures, such as Law Enforcement, teachers, parents, mentors, etc. When subjected to such a flagrant violation of this trust in authority, especially when the authority figure abuses the power dynamic to demean, shame, and otherwise humiliate the child, it is not uncommon for the child to respond via splitting, and potentially go on to develop oppositional defiant disorder or even conduct disorder, depending upon the perceived severity of the traumatic event.

It's also possible something like this could influence the development of a future pervasive sexual paraphilia, such as cuckolding, sadism, masochism, etc, which could impair the child's ability to form meaningful romantic relationships later in life.

Clayton County has a history of having a crappy attitude. They almost lost their accreditation county wide about a decade ago because they stuck a special needs kid in a situation to be held up to ridicule of his classmates---a completely avoidable situation, they were truly just being complete dicks, and then they compounded it by being all self-righteous about having a right to be complete dicks if they wanted to be.

The entire southern colleges and schools regional accreditation board had to get in their face and tell the county they would yank the county's entire accreditation--elementary through high school inclusive--if the county didn't fix their way of handing special ed and didn't adjust their damned attitude. "Yes, we can and we will yank the accreditation of every school in your entire county over how you've treated one bipolar fifth grade child. Believe it. We are the ones who decide if it's "that serious" or not--and we say it is. Now fix the damned problems with your special ed policies and procedures."

The superintendent and a whole lot of people in his office at the top got fired, and I think a lot of the board got thrown out over it.

It's not exactly isolated. I know that was a long time ago, but it's more like Clayton has a repeat bad attitude problem where they don't appear to "get" that their perceptions of how it's okay to treat people are way askew from broader, national society's standards.

Groupthink a la Anderson Consulting and Enron.

You know your attitude is BAD when the regional accreditation guys jack you up by the short and curlies and say, "Listen, biatch...."

They do not do that shiat lightly.

I do apologize that your rights were violated and you were humliated by a school administration that apparently has to keep being reminded that they don't have fascist control over their students. But your degredation at the hands at the school system has inspired a lovely ladies underwear thread, so even though that is probably of zero consolation to you, we've got that going for us. I have a zombie apocalypse dream I have from time to time which is scary as shiat.

I don't relate to the kid either.

By the time I was in third grade, I would have told them to kiss my a$$ if the school demanded me to strip. And if a cop would have been the one to demand, I would have told him he'd have to get my parent's permission first.

He has a case the search should not have been done in front of other kids. I also don't think the schools should have the right to search a child without a parent there.

While the strip search was no doubt a civil rights violation, and likely also a criminal act, I don't see how the kid's emotional suffering is directly related to that.

Surely it's not out of normal for a middle school kid to be teased relentlessly. Wouldn't his Superman underoos have drawn attention in the gym locker room, had the incident in the office not taken place?
