A GoPro camera doesn't make you anything more than a GoAmateur without practice.

It's no "The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat"

lol, that looked like fun. I love the mid-air apathy..."well, I'm upside-down in the air now. I think I'll just ride this one out."

Serious hang time, brah.

I call that the "so far, so good" moment of zen before the sudden stop at the end.

Presumably, that's what kept him from getting hurt. But was he trying to flip? I couldn't tell. And the jump didn't seem to be very "flip-conducive."

Sonny Bono at his side, "maybe next time."

Hell, he didn't even make a sound! I guarantee you that every time I've ever been in pre-crash approach while skiing, I've at least said "uh oh..." or "ohhh, shiii.."

It's entirely possible that he knew that he would be landing in a fluffy cloud of pow. We used to do stuff like this right after a huge dump- Build a massive kicker, go as fast as you can, and just huck yourself off it. Orientation doesn't much matter- It's like landing in a box of packing peanuts.

Half way through, I was wondering how he managed to fly. It was kinda wierd. But, I don't ski, so I am not used to falling more than 6 feet.

Tell your kids, this is why you don't ski in the backseat. Makes turning very difficult.

That liveleak video looks like it's been copied and re-compressed a hundred times. Link to youtube version that doesn't look like recycled upchuck.. potentially NSFW title (new window)

You assume he was OK. I think the smiling person at the end was a friend picking up the jumpers severed head.

At least he didn't end up with a stick in his ass and out his side.

Interesting. Usually after a huge dump I just wash my hands and go back to work.

You might be surprised. Unless I'm going really fast, any time I fall now I usually just lay down until I stop rolling. It only takes a few hard smacks into the snow before you realize the best thing you can do is just relax and let the snow manhandle you until the momentum dies off.

Friend of mine who is a logger from northern BC as well as a funny SOB coined a phrase for that exact move; traumahawking.

That might be my favorite skiing phrase ever...
