I've never done illicit drugs and I've never been drunk. 39 years old. I think adults who are around my age who smoke MJ for recreation are trashy.

Eh, my former boss used to light up all the time. Hell, we lit up together on a number of occasions (not at work). He was an upper-middle (low upper?) manager bringing in six figures at a huge international financial institution whose name rhymes with "mace rank."

Good for him... If I knew the guy, a small part of me would think he's trashy, that's all. Maybe it's the way drug users are portrayed on tv and movies, or maybe i'm influenced by my interactions with the drug using musicians I've known personally over the years, but I can't help but look down on drug users to some extent.

Awesome. Their earlier stuff is more guitar/acoustic styled music, their recent stuff is a little more electronic. I would start with Sung Tongs, Feels, and Strawberry Jam. If you like Sung Tongs, look into their earlier stuff, and if you prefer Strawberry Jam, check out the later albums.

First time I ever smoked a joint (1969), I got out and walked around. It was good smoke (old columbian) and I enjoyed those first 5-10 times. Once your mind and body is acclimated to it, it changes. Quit in 1976.

/not that anyone cares. Just venting.

He was smoking it like that because he and most of his generation are completely brainwashed about the very nature of cannabis and liken it to the crack cocaines which is flashed on screen during the 22 Minute Hate every night.

OBBN: unchellmatt: I used to smoke weed, ages ago, and I dunno... Suppose even if it was legal I still wouldn't.

Anyway, I've seen the health benefits up front. Someone near and dear to me has Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, essentially where a doctor removed a small cyst from her foot, and her body kept telling her that the wound was still there. Her doctor, thinking he must have nicked a nerve, removed more, then more nerve. By the time he figured out what was going on, he'd made it much, much worse. She takes all sorts of really pretty nasty medications to deal with the pain, and for a while just that alone was killing her. They upset her stomach so much she couldn't eat and wasted away.

After trying everything, acupuncture, all sorts of trial treatments, you name it, she figured she'd try smoking up a little herb. In a matter of months, she was able to cut back on the amount of amazingly harsh opiates she was taking, she'd gained 10lbs, looked healthier, and is happier. The pain is still there, but it's not as intense and she can actually stand on crutches rather than be wheel chair bound.

The "war on weed" is idiotic. It's no where near as damaging as alcohol, and sure you hear about people getting all wacky and deciding to drive, causing an accident, but you hear about that with booze, too. But you never hear about Jeb smoking up a bowl and knocking off his whole family with a shotgun.

I will reserve comment on the "war on weed" for recreational use as I really don't have an opinion either way. I see both sides and can understand the points. However I do tend to lean towards, your body - your choice. However, when it comes to medical use of pot I just keep shaking my head that it is still not legal in some States (including mine). How can we live in a Country where one segment of the population has access to a medical treatment and another segment is barred from that treatment?

I broke my back about 7 years or so ago. Since that time I have been in chronic pa ...

Get some weed, seriously, it will probably do the job of all those pills without the nasty side effects.

But you don't know how to get any weed, I know.

Here's how:
Ask a younger relative.
Ask a friend you trust.
If you frequent a bar or restaurant, most likely your server will give you a phone number of a guy in exchange for a good tip.

Or think about growing your own, while illegal, if you are growing one plant in your basement it is very unlikely you will get caught, and if you do, most 'personal' growers get probation the first time around.

Just works out that way sometimes.

I've certainly done my share of drinking.

I guess. I don't really understand though. I've turned down more cocaine than I've inhaled. And I smoke weed regularly anyway, but if even I didn't god knows someone tries to sell me some on every corner store anyway.

I would say it's more about lack of desire to try it than access to drugs for me. I would be considered a jock in most social scenarios, but I didn't drink until my 21st birthday, and now I'm 27 and have never done any kind of illegal drug. It's amazing how shocking this is to people including my parents. Good beer and a good cigar every now and then works for me.

I drink beer occasionally, but have never been drunk or high. I did take two Vicodin pills at once after having my wisdom teeth removed. I was only supposed to take one every four hours. Made me feel like Hunter S. Thompson.

jjwars1: LOL! In case you missed it he's lighting the glass not the bowl of weed. When done correctly it's really hard to burn yourself unless it's dark, you smoked too much, or are drunk.

If anyone "smokes" weed and doesn't feel different they didn't do something right. People are not immune to its affects. Whenever I hear someone say "I tired it but it didn't do anything" I have to chuckle at their innocence. It's like a freshmen saying they drank a fifth of vodka, but it didn't do anything for them. Either it wasn't vodka, you're super human, or you didn't actually drink it and hold it down long enough.

I don't know about that. I've known lots of people, myself included, who didn't feel any effects the first time smoking. The second time, though, was a different story.

Used to smoke quite copiously in college, but something happened and now every time I light up my heart starts racing like crazy and it just feels uncomfortable. Pisses me off to no end, I really miss it. Don't drink or do other drugs, and haven't smoked weed in probably 5 or 6 years now.

Anyone else have/had this problem or know anyone who has? I wonder if eating/vaping it would make a difference.

Do a lot of judging of people, do you? Makes you feel superior, does it?

Do you feel the same way about people that are in chronic pain, that they take a pain killer because it's the only way they can get thru day?

Or do you only look down on people that use cannabis recreationally? Because, you know, you're morally superior to someone that just wants to relax after a stressful day at work.

We all judge people, every day... so yes. Does it make me feel superior? Sure, why not?

I don't feel the same way about those who use it for legitimate illness. Most of the people using dispensaries are lying about it though... and you all know it.

I felt it the first time. Biggest smile I've ever had on my face.

Although as I've gotten older I've noticed that paranoia has seeped into the buzz, so I don't do it very often anymore. I miss it but I can only smoke alone or my imagination runs wild. I understand that it's the weed doing my thinking for me and I'd never harm a fly because of it but it gets a bit eerie at times.

The first time I smoked weed I didn't feel it because I only took one or two hits. The second time I smoked way too much and had a bad experience that I thought would never end. I've never felt as scared as I did that night. Didn't hurt anyone or myself but I was really on edge. I've had some really good times while high but I've also had a few freakouts that made me decide it's not the right buzz for me. Probably too uptight/self conscious.

So that's what this is about? I don't do drugs, so I'm not cool. Only cool people do drugs. I've got a couple friends who were so cool they are six feet deep thanks to drugs.

If someone DOES end up needing to smoke something through the day to cope with you instead of punching you in your face does give you a reason to look down on them?

What assholes we are for trying to make it through the day.

Absolutely. And it's a short leap from pot -> coke -> heroin addict.

When you start smoking pot, next thing you know you're blowing some dude in a back alley so you score some crack.

A huge number of Americans have admitted to trying pot. Which is the reason for the huge crack and heroin epidemic.

The first time I smoked weed (at the ripe old age of 12; NorCal FTW) I remember saying "I don't feel anything, it's not working, I don't feel different" etc. Then I sat on my friend's couch and stared at this Iron Maiden poster for 4 hours, totally unable to take my eyes off of it.

-I also woke up in the middle of the night laughing and laughing, unable to stop for a good 20 minutes, waking the same friend up in the process.

Love me some pot. Great link Subby! I might take a toke and go for a stroll on this Saturday afternoon.

THIS is the poster; I'll have it burned into my memory forever!

It's no where near as damaging as alcohol, and sure you hear about people getting all wacky and deciding to drive, causing an accident, but you hear about that with booze, too. But you never hear about Jeb smoking up a bowl and knocking off his whole family with a shotgun.

Unfunny but related, if ANYONE wants to start messing with her foot again - she needs to tell them to screw off. The more you mess with an CRPS-inflicted area, the more you spread it and make it worse. Acts damn near like an infectious disease that way. I may not be telling you anything you don't know, but just in case. I hate to see others suffer through not only the pain but people making it worse by doing the absolute most incorrect thing they could to try to fix it. Area needs to be left the hell ALONE short of brief attempts at topical medications perhaps to see if they work, that's it. Any cut, tear, scrape, puncture - even small as a needle can spread it like wildfire. Once again, verified that the hard way. Truly hope your friend stays as ok as is feasible!

/that'd be the Dr. doing incorrect things, not her - to be clear.
