I've never taken an illicit drug, but I've never been particularly against the idea of trying any particular one.
Perhaps a short pipe like that really isn't the right kind of delivery vehicle for a beginner. Seems like the chance for getting burnt is fairly high.

Not particularly. It's easier for a non smoker (of any kind), if you don't have to deal with the rolling and handling issues of a joint. But it is a short throw, so when you have ignition, the smoke comes quick. He could have obviously have used a few pointers, but he at least knew to plug off the throttle. Nobody told him to release it and take some air in behind that, though. I'm surprised he didn't hack his head off after he got that first blast.

I guess. I don't really understand though. I've turned down more cocaine than I've inhaled. And I smoke weed regularly anyway, but if even I didn't god knows someone tries to sell me some on every corner store anyway.

I've never done any illicit drug either. People have definitely offered me weed a lot, but I just politely turn them down. I guess I'm just not interested. I've done my fair share of drinking, though.

That was a nice little mini-documentary or whatever you want to call it.
It's interesting how many people that would get out of control drunk and get psychically ill from drinking would never try pot where you could never get to that state.

I remember rooming with my brother in college. I love weed, but he had never tried it before, so I eventually convinced him to smoke a bowl with me. After a few hits of some *really* good stuff, he denied feeling anything, and honestly, I don't think he got high, either. At that point, we both agreed that he just doesn't need weed in his life. Nothing wrong with that.

I've tried pot twice in my 45 years. First time was when I was 16. And I think it was oregano because I never noticed a significant change. The second time was in my late 20's. My brother in law used to grow it, and he wanted me to give it another try while we were standing around talking at a family pig roast one warm July afternoon. I thought what the hell? Not good. I felt sick, dizzy and paranoid for the next 4 hours. I'm pretty sure not everyone has this reaction. Hell, I'm not even sure if this is a typical reaction, but for me it was the last time I wanted to try pot.
I'm for legalization. I think it's ridiculous to say you can buy as much alcohol as you want, but, you can't buy something like marijuana.
.
..
...
Just my two cents.

Smoked a few times in college, but it had been almost 30 years. Just didn't want to mess with the legalities of it. Was in Amsterdam last month and visited the local coffee shops. Forgot what I had been missing!

LOL! In case you missed it he's lighting the glass not the bowl of weed. When done correctly it's really hard to burn yourself unless it's dark, you smoked too much, or are drunk.
If anyone "smokes" weed and doesn't feel different they didn't do something right. People are not immune to its affects. Whenever I hear someone say "I tired it but it didn't do anything" I have to chuckle at their innocence. It's like a freshmen saying they drank a fifth of vodka, but it didn't do anything for them. Either it wasn't vodka, you're super human, or you didn't actually drink it and hold it down long enough.

I think there's also denial involved, like they don't want to feel any different, so they don't accept the fact that they aren't sober. It's not like alcohol, where motor reflexes are affected to an observable degree.

I would say it's more about lack of desire to try it than access to drugs for me. I would be considered a jock in most social scenarios, but I didn't drink until my 21st birthday, and now I'm 27 and have never done any kind of illegal drug. It's amazing how shocking this is to people including my parents. Good beer and a good cigar every now and then works for me.

I used to smoke weed, ages ago, and I dunno... Suppose even if it was legal I still wouldn't.
Anyway, I've seen the health benefits up front. Someone near and dear to me has
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
, essentially where a doctor removed a small cyst from her foot, and her body kept telling her that the wound was still there. Her doctor, thinking he must have nicked a nerve, removed more, then more nerve. By the time he figured out what was going on, he'd made it much, much worse. She takes all sorts of really pretty nasty medications to deal with the pain, and for a while just that alone was killing her. They upset her stomach so much she couldn't eat and wasted away.
After trying everything, acupuncture, all sorts of trial treatments, you name it, she figured she'd try smoking up a little herb. In a matter of months, she was able to cut back on the amount of amazingly harsh opiates she was taking, she'd gained 10lbs, looked healthier, and is happier. The pain is still there, but it's not as intense and she can actually stand on crutches rather than be wheel chair bound.
The "war on weed" is idiotic. It's no where near as damaging as alcohol, and sure you hear about people getting all wacky and deciding to drive, causing an accident, but you hear about that with booze, too. But you never hear about Jeb smoking up a bowl and knocking off his whole family with a shotgun.

I will reserve comment on the "war on weed" for recreational use as I really don't have an opinion either way. I see both sides and can understand the points. However I do tend to lean towards, your body - your choice. However, when it comes to medical use of pot I just keep shaking my head that it is still not legal in some States (including mine). How can we live in a Country where one segment of the population has access to a medical treatment and another segment is barred from that treatment?
I broke my back about 7 years or so ago. Since that time I have been in chronic pain. Each day I take morphine and percocet, plus a muscle relaxer. And because those drugs make me so damn tired I take amphetamine to wake me up everyday. ( a legal "speedball", can you believe it). From what I have read and heard the use of medical mj would relive me of not only the pain, but the chore of taking the damn narcotics I have to shove down my gullet everyday.
I just don't understand how the drugs that I have been on over the years: morphine, percocet, vicodin, fentynal, oxcotin, just to list a few are legal but medical mj isn't. Does the legislators think that the drugs I take now are non-addictive and harmless?

Really, you can't imagine growing up and not taking illegal drugs?
I've only ever smoked pot, and even that I didn't start until I was 27. I smoked socially for about two years and then for some reason I stopped liking the way it made me feel, so I stopped. I was 19 the first time I got drunk, and I've never been a real drinker. It helps that I think alcohol tastes like ass, and it tends to give me heartburn. (Strangely, the only alcohol I can drink with no problems is vodak, which tastes like shiat and so I have to use a good six ounces of something strong like cranberry juice to chase it. But it doesn't give me heartburn and I don't get hangovers from it.) I just never saw the appeal of drugs of any sort.

Not getting high the first time (or first couple of times) that a person smokes is pretty common.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_don%27t_you_get_high_the_first_time_you _ smoke_marjuana
I have heard that attributed to the "you're doing it wrong" factor (not holding smoke in, not inhaling at all, trying to light the underside of a glass pipe like gramps does in TFV, lol) but I've also heard that it's because the THC (or some analog of THC?) receptors in the brain haven't quite figured out what to do with the chemical and that the pump needs to be primed, so to speak.
I've been smoking for 30+ years. I didn't get high the first time I smoked.

The first few times I smoked weed it didn't affect me. And it's not that I was that much of a "novice" either, I smoked cigarettes, drank, and had even done acid before I ever toked. It just takes a few times before it hits some people. Around these parts that was common knowledge, I had always figured it was the same for everyone everywhere. Hell, my sister smoked something like 14 times before she ever got high.

I dont want to smoke weed while i have kids -- maybe once in a while if they go to camp for a month maybe --- but once they all hit college ima gonna let them come home for holidays to find me and their mom turned their bedroom into a hotbox/videogame sanctuary.
I didnt smoke till i graduated highschool -- a friend gave another friend an oz as a grad present so we went out camping and smoked it. I had 4 some joints in a row to myself and shiat got scary as fark fast. Good fun at first - but I know now i oversmoked hard. Got paranoid. And i mean omg leprechauns in the bushes paranoid.
