Well, that's funny, because if he got Secret Service protection, they would be covering a dick.

If he's so anti-government and pro-private sector, why didn't he hire a private security agency rather than mooching off of the taxpayers?

2012-02-16 12:27:19 AM
C'mon, Rick. Surely of God wants you to be the President of the United States of In God We Trust, then He can handle keeping you alive, right? No need to waste the taxpayer's money on something that could very well be an attempt to thwart God's will, since only He has the right to decide about life and death. Right?

Why don't you trust God, Rick?

Haven't read TFA yet but I hope its BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION.

PLEASE don't give it to him. Make him pay his own cash for his own guards.

Just interested: While he's running to be the Republican nominee, he's not a public official. Are these things typically granted?

If it is, I fully expect that he'll cover the cost of that protection, as a stalwart protector of the government purse.

The spouses of major presidential and vice presidential candidates (within 120 days of a general presidential election)

In other words, hopefully not yet, but probably soon.

unyon: Are these things typically granted?

The process is the candidate asks for protection from the Homeland Security Secretary who then by law needs to get congressional approval and it's taken on a case by case basis.

The first GOP candidate to get Secret Service protection this campaign cycle was Herman Cain back in November of last year.

The earliest any campaign candidate ever got SS protection was Barack Obama back in May 2007.

I would speculate openly as to why Cain and Obama got such early protection but by this point you are either well aware or in active denial

(R)-Money has already requested and has been receiving SS protection since the beginning of February, of course.

I loathe his politics and despise the man, but I think it's reprehensible that anyone would threaten him just because he's offensive.

(Not saying you are, but the need for protection implies someone is.)

Yeah, I don't think it's to the level of violence. But his positions ARE against the lives of women, and many other Americans.

Can't R-Money pay for his own private security. Instead of sucking on the fed's tit?

On the other hand, if Virginia's governor signs the 'Mandatory raping women with a blunt object' bill, he may need protection from assasination.

(R)-Money has always traveled with his own private security team and will continue to do so. They are just now working with the SS. The foiled glitter bomb 'plot' in Florida is proof of their necessity according to some.

Excrete Service?

2012-02-16 06:32:34 AM
Prediction: Soon a Liberal will come in here, lightly mocking the "waste of Government tax dollars" supplying Secret Service personnel to Santorum. That will be followed by an itchy trigger finger Conservative, bashing Obama and his over-sized Secret Service "entourage."

Back-and-forthyness will then occur for 3 pages.

And there's a National Guard detail covering the Republican convention.

Fiscal conservatives.

That was quite the article...

Too bad the American people can't ask for protection from Santorum's rampant stupidity.

Awww. Someone YELLED at him!

I know the Secret Service doesn't do ANYTHING for the lulz, but it would be great if Rick were told "Your detail is going to be made up entirely of women. Yes, women with jobs outside the home who use contraception. Your Secret Service code name is 'Target.'"

Santorum to the point in the primary where he needs and can request Secret Service protection.

Beautiful! Keep it up, GOP. You're going with a winner!

Give him secret service.

Please.

That way the liberals can biatch and moan how he spends taxpayer money every time he moves somewhere.

He wants to expand government? RINO! A real Conservative would find some private sector workers that could do that job more efficiently for less money.

Headline is full of lulz - because it's great how Santorum has branded himself as the anti-birth-control candidate a full 8 months before the general election. If he winds up going against Obama, he'll be running for president in a time of major economic and geopolitical instability... and he'll be most known for opposing birth control. Well played, Obama. You set the trap and the Republicans couldn't wait to storm right into it.

We give secret service protection to candidates who don't stand a chance now? If I announce my candidacy can I get secret service protection?

Psst... Santorum is currently the Republican frontrunner. He's won more states than Romney and is doing better in the polls. I know it's hard to believe, but there it is.

Maybe he should wear a Kevlar sweater vest just to be on the safe side...
I sure as hell don't want to see him get elected to anything, but I wouldn't want him killed. That would make a martyr out of him. That and it's wrong to fight hatred with violence.

Instead, I pray that Santorum's heart and mind be opened to compassion and love.

There's a new frontrunner every 10 seconds. He's still got way less delegates than Romney and he stands no chance in the general.

I'm going to agree that he stands no chance in the general, but I think he could very well be the nominee. Romney has hit his ceiling in terms of support, but it used to be that the rest of the Republican field was splitting up the anti-Romney vote. Now it's just Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul. Gingrich is probably done for, and Paul has his own hardcore supporters and not much else. I think the anti-Romney vote has more or less coalesced around Santorum. Santorum has been getting hammered on contraceptive/abortion stuff, but that will actually make him more popular among the social conservatives, not less.

Eh, I'm just happy that the republican party has finally figured out what an elitist is.

Now all they need to figure out what a christian is, what a compassionate human being is, what common sense is, and what science is.

Obama's playing chess, the GOP is in the corner stuffing "Uncle Wiggly" pieces into their nose and occasionally screaming "CHALKMART!"
