Came for Pixie Cut Emma.

/Would come again. And perhaps once more.

I had super short hair for about 4 years (as sort as Emma Watson a few comments up) and I can say that yes, if you are a young woman with short hair people feel the need to comment on it a lot. Women are going to say "I wish I could pull that off" and most men other than the short hair fetishists will beg you to grow it out. Who gives a fark though? I don't think it's an unexpected reaction by any means. The writer of this article is being totally ridiculous. Of course people are going to comment on it, just like they comment on anything outside the norm. If it makes you uncomfortable for people to comment on your appearance, you need to either get thicker skin or try to blend in more.

Short hair is OK if she's gone through menopause, but not before.

"May I help you, sir?"
Then don't get a man's haircut

"It totally reminds me of Sandy Duncan in 'Peter Pan.'"
See above. Sandy Duncan was playing a boy. That some else made that association means you look like a boy.

"Did you just give up when you had the baby?"
Yes, you did. Your first farking sentence -- "Yes, it coincided with the birth of my second daughter. No, it doesn't mean I've given up (well, maybe it does,". You're taking offense to something you admit is true. Fark you.

"I loved you back when you had long hair."
Because you now look like a boy.

"Don't worry, it'll grow back."
Thank god. Then you won't look like a boy.

"You look so much better with short hair."
This is a compliment, or a lie that sounds like one. That you are offended is a you problem.

"Your short hair makes you look thinner."
See above.

Jesus H. Christ on a cracker, this is one uptight coont. Even compliments are twisted into perceived slights.

Ladies, this is why you should NEVER ask a man if those jeans make you look fat. The answer will always be "no", true or not.

I love a woman with short hair.

But then again I would love her with any length hair.

I was complimented on my beautiful daughter about a month ago. My son was not pleased. He took it in good spirits though. He just looked at her and says "I'm a boy."

I could tell she felt bad.

Not as bad as the balloon animal guy in the Seattle Center who made a joke about being on Prozac. You should have seen his face when my son informed him, in a completely deadpan fashion,
that he had taken Prozac and that it sucked. We laugh about that now. How was that guy supposed to know?

I went super short about 6 months ago and I love my pixie cut! So does my husband.

The only thing that someone has said to me since the cut was, our severely obese UPS driver that comes into work said, "Wow! You really got your hair chopped!"

Really dude?

Really? My wife just cut hers quite short, and Im getting just as much as before...which is quite a lot.

I've never had hair any shorter than chin length, and never will. Why? People, look at your damn face shape and bone structure. Just because you're too lazy to take five minutes out of your day to do your hair (I'm not buying the "but I'm a mommy and have no time!" excuse), doesn't mean I'm not allowed to comment on how your short haircut makes you look like a pageboy. It does.

My FIL actually made a comment the other day that I'm the only married woman over the age of 21 that didn't lop all their hair off once they got married. That's totally depressing to think about, yet moderately true when I think about it. My SIL lopped about six inches off her hair when she got married. My former best friend chopped all her hair off when she got married. Hell no, I won't do it! I have thick, lovely, long hair, and just because it takes me 15 minutes to dry and style it in the morning doesn't mean I'm a glutton for punishment. I just like to look good. Sue me.

This woman is ridiculous. Just because someone tells you they like your hair better short doesn't mean that they thought it looked BAD when it was long. That's like if I tell a girl "You look great today", that doesn't mean that I thought she looked like shiat the day before.

shivashakti: I like women with short hair...

What the hell does the length and complexity of the fibers hanging off their noggin have to do with anything?

2012-02-15 07:37:54 PM
Short hair seems so easy to care for. I'm sure once I grow mine out I'll keep it for like six months and then I'll be like "screw this shiat" and chop it back down to my chin. I hate dealing with my hair at THIS length, even. I can't do a thing with it. I can blow it out but that takes way too much time and I hate doing it. If I try to wear it curly there isn't enough humidity in CO to keep it going so it falls flat and looks greasy. If I try to wear it wavy it takes on this Gibson Girl appearance. I can't win.

My hair is really thick so blow drying would take ~4 hours. I don't have time for that. I wash mine at night, towel dry it, braid it and let it dry while I sleep and spend almost no time at all on it for the next few days . Braiding it results in nice waves.

I have super oily hair so I HAVE to wash every day or else I look gross. It seems if I have to do that at least it could be easy to style afterwards. I have regretfully accepted that at least an hour of my day is always wasted on my hair.

Short hair will always be greasier than long hair. Brushing your hair spreads the oils from your scalp along the hair to keep it from getting brittle. When your hair is short, there isn't much area to spread it over. That's why people with long hair can go several days between washings. I go 3 days - clean hair/damp head day, hair-pin day (when I use bobbypins to control the escapees) and big hair day (when I unbraid and brush it out and let it roam free).

I'm getting a kick, etc. since I recently cut my hair short. Everybody in my office keeps coming up to me and exclaiming, "OH MY GOD, YOU CHOPPED ALL YOUR HAIR OFF!" which I would probably add to the list of "things not to say" because it makes me paranoid.

When someone says that, you should shriek and rush to a mirror like it is news to you. Or at least clutch your head and yell "OMG! When did that happen?!".

Armchair psychology theory: Men are less attracted to short-haired women because long hair is like plumage in the animal world -- its her signal that she's looking for a mate. Which is why the 'short hair=given up on sex' appeared upthread. There's a reason photo models have long hair

Women who should go for the pixie cut:
1. post-menopausal
2. the occasional high fashion model
3. actresses trying not to be seen only as Hermione Granger

Kasira pulls it off. She'd do better with a bob. Cute either way.

Some women can absolutely pull off short hair and look hot. But I would submit though that even those women would look even hotter with long hair. If you're doing it just to try something different for a while, good for you. But you probably looked better with long hair.

NkThrasher: "Your short hair makes you look thinner."

Concur. Other than extreme cases I can't think of this having any basis in reality.

Also, you know what's likely to have made her look thinner? Giving birth right before cutting her hair.

There is no woman on the planet, past, present or future who looks better with short hair. Sure, some women can look good with short hair, but all women luck better with long hair. That's about as simple as I can make it.

I understand that long hair can be a pain for some (all?) women, which I suppose is why most women don't cut it short until they have a husband and/or a baby. A woman cutting her hair short truly is the definition of giving up.

Great looking hair is great looking, regardless of length. Short and long are both good (as is anything in between), and each has its own unique possibilities.

just passing through: Some women can absolutely pull off short hair and look hot. But I would submit though that even those women would look even hotter with long hair. If you're doing it just to try something different for a while, good for you. But you probably looked better with long hair.

This. Some classically beautiful women who are slender can rock the short hair and look sexy doing it, but they still look better with long hair. Most women do not fall into this category though. I see a lot of heavy, full faced, or just not very pretty faced women who cut off their hair and that just makes them look terrible in my opinion. It's fine if they just don't care anymore because I don't believe women should be a slave to their hair or vanity as I really don't think looks should be a priority (although I know many will disagree with me). However, I think some of them are deluding themselves into thinking it looks good when it doesn't. I don't think I've ever seen a woman who I thought looked better with short hair.

In short, just because Halle Barry or Winona Rider can pull off the hairstyle doesn't mean Mandy McButterface can.

Also when I say short hair, I mean butch/guy short or the Pixie cut/Paige Boy cut. Chin length or even ear length hair isn't really short in my opinion and can still look good on some women and lends itself better to a larger margin of women.

The look on his face was priceless.

Years ago, a grocery clerk told my husband, "Your wife looks much as your daughter". He stumbled over it, despite being a white American-by-birth. We both thought he meant it as a compliment, but it was sure weird, as I was standing right there. I guess looking young makes one hard of hearing.

I've actually seen a woman pull off a buzz cut.

Long hair is better, mostly (that's for men and women, BTW), but a pixie cut or dorothy cut on the odd girl can be very hot. Same thing for bikinis and one-pieces; bikinis are better most of the time but the odd one piece can sometimes be hotter than any bikini.
